Herb, I don't know what it is, but reading, and now discovering your videos, I can't say anything more than, I actually feel like you're a kind of father figure, or a blood, soul, mind, essence relation that I do not understand yet. I could go on, but I think you get the idea. I've got two BFAs -Classical guitar, Photography (both UNM), MFA-Photography (UW-Washington), MFA -Painting (SAIC) -just background info. Played in numerous bands before serious classical study. The point being that my first system, McIntosh SS/Sonus Faber, is what I enjoyed for a couple of years. Never looked at anything "audiophile" until recently. As a musician, I know the sound I want. I recently realized that this first system wasn't giving me the sound I wanted to hear. I heard a PrimaLuna setup -really enjoyed it. I found your articles -read you had a Prima Preamp. I read about you reference gear. I read what you described about the sound. But I read beyond your words, the musician inside new the sound you were talking about, that sound can't be written in words. I heard Line Magnetic -Loved it. Remembered that you have a LM amp. At this point I knew I understood the sound you liked and went to hear a FirstWatt piece, bought the SIT-3. Couldn't be happier. I guess what I'm trying to say is, that I feel I have found a unknown companion, one that enjoyed an aspect to a certain musical 'sound signature' that I enjoyed as well. I now read every word you write. Now I find this? From the little I was able to see, was enough to confirm that I think your pieces are fine pieces of work, very special indeed. I could have watched with no sound, and I'm sure I would have come to the same conclusion. Going into details, as to why, is beyond the scope of youtube text. I would like to say one more thing. I've had many conversations with other artists, what I just heard you say, was like hearing an echo of things I have told fellow artists during these conversations. I don't know man, I feel like I'm looking into the mirror the more i get to know you. Spooky. I'd be interested to know what you read -and why. Thanks for all your audio reviews, which are more like descriptions of what I find in music sound as well.
Interesting the barn building you age character by burial we have old mining houses stores and workshops left to the elements I can stare at them for hours. Like your painting technique you can see characters one upon another interesting deep thoughts .I can't get this feeling looking at new buildings it's I guess why I like mid century stuff. Your Paintwork I feel this too.
Im a painter too and I agree with herb re what painting is about, but unlike herb Im not interested in helping or guiding anyone on a painting. i think that explaining art actually ruins the experience of seeing art.
