That's a tremendous amount of talent on that stage. You didn't have to say a word, it was said in your smile. How about a reaction to Weather Report doing "Cucumber Slumber'", I love the bass in it.

Great choice. Hancock, to me, was a modern era Count Basie and Duke Ellington as someone who used his compositional skills and imagination to create genres while being a great leader who earned global respect - and was also a world class pianist. Bassist Stanley Clarke is legendary as he excelled at everything: jazz, classical, rock, pop and fusion, and because of his immense talents and consummate professionalism, he played with greats from all those genres.

Stanley Clarke on bass, Wayne shorter on sax, Omar Hakkim on drums. I met Hakkim a couple of times when he was playing with Mandingo Griot Society. Very nice guy.

Everyone else that’s commented has filled you in on the resumes of the four jazz legends in this performance. Such a fertile time in the history of jazz music to see these guys in their prime, especially Omar and Stanley, how young they were at the time. Thanks for reacting to this and I’m so glad you enjoyed this Chod. It’s a classic. 🔥🎷🎹🥁🎸

Whatever style Herbie is playing and there's plenty to choose from, he always surrounds himself with the baddest whether they're well known at the time or not. But this band was elite. Alumni, at one time or another, of Weather Report, Return to Forever. A jazz supergroup.

Chod, I hope you'll check out some of the piano duo work of Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea, just the two of them with two grand pianos, facing each other---- it's mind-blowing. It can lift you into the stratosphere...highly recommend, "La Fiesta" from those concerts. I got to see Herbie live, doing his first reunion show with the original Headhunters lineup, he was beyond amazing...

What a great live performance and I can see (and of course hear and feel) that all the musicians have fun to play this unice music for the people. Thanks for sharing this very great moment. I'm more socialized with blues and rock but love a lot of jazz vibes. Wayne Shorter is one of the greatest of this musical art. I would appreciate more jazz (jazz-rock) like this vid or like Billy Cobham, Koinonia (with Abraham Laboriel) or the older stuff with Stanley Clarke, George Duke and so on. Did you ever heard about Pete York (one of the best jazz drummers) and his "super drumming" project that was shown on tv? Please search it out, I know you will like it. Best wishes @all from hamburg (germany)

I was elated just watching how this young brother enjoyed this performance. The contacts in which he was speaking gave me the impression that he was not very familiar with Hancock, Shorter (RIP), Clarke, and Hakim. All four of them are legendary at their craft! I'm just glad to see a younger brother really embracing jazz. He seems like he's a very good drummer.

Wayne on the soprano started a group called Weather Report with Joe Zawinul. Stanley on the bass was in a group with Chick Corea called Return to Forever. Herbie has done everything including bringing us a group called The Headhunters. Previous to this Herbie Joe and Chick all played keyboards for Miles Davis and that is instant cred. I'm sure other commenters will add more... BTW, you could be the first reactor to cover Michael Franks! Night Moves from The Art of Tea album would be a good start. School Daze is a great Stanley Clarke album too. Omar Hakim was the drummer on a music show David Sanborn had on late sunday nights, look that up!

Interesting how you take some songs solo. Smart. This was the era of Avant Garde Jazz. In this category, I'm sure you realize you haven't scratched the surface of Jeff Beck: Star Cycle; Space Boogie; You Never Know; THX138; You Know What I Mean; Air Blower; Scatterbrain; Thelonius; Freeway Jam; Blue Wind; Led Boots; My Thing; Line Dancing with Monkeys; So What; etc. All Jeff Beck tunes that you may want to take solo. But, I do have a jewel for your wife: Slippin' Into Darkness, by WAR.

How TF can you be a drummer (and one introduced to jazz as a kid) and not know Herbie Hancock and this piece... not being rude but that is really shocking to me. Some weird musical separatism shit went on over in the states around genres of music (and seems to be linked to class and race and geography - that, as I've never been there, I don't get) but really pleased that you tube/social media and communities around different types of artist can easily introduce and connect people to genius like this now.
