the greatest thing that Christina Aguilera has ever recorded. Pure art that's going to stand for a long time. She absolutely owned the song. And Herbie's arrangement is a grand slam home run.
It’s amazing and it’s crazy because the original by DH is amazing too it reminds me of Whitney covering Dollys song like another cover slam dunk just like this! 🔥👌🏽
Indeed I do remember. The good thing about tower was the fact that you could browse through virtually every genre of music. See the product in person has a much different feel to it than scrolling through Amazon for the same thing. Tower was a good place, especially in San Francisco.
~ Lol...You did not know that Christina was capable of singing like this?? Where have you been at? Granted, not many people have taken a dive into her discography. Most just know whatever they hear on the radio. But radio never plays the jems like this in her albums. 😊
Okay let's do this right, first of al,l you don't do a rendition of an original classic unless you can absolutely do it justice, and you know Herbie come from the Miles Davis era as a young boy so he will absolutely not violate the code and touch someone's classic without reverencing it and I must say WOW!!! I truly believe Donny Hathaway placed His blessings on this one!
I looooove me some Christina... One of my fav singers.. But I'm not sure she did this song too much justice... Hmmmm.. Let me think on it some more...In the mean time I'll go and listen to Donny Hathaway..
Christina is competing with both Donny Hathaway and the Ray Charles version of this song. Christina does an amazing job, but it still feels like just a cover on the early verses. She saves it towards the end when she really cuts loose. Herbie Hancock's musicianship is what makes this piece exquisite throughout.
She has an amazing voice, but she does the same riffs, rolls, and vocals on EVERY darn song. This song does not need all of this extra she is giving. Just let the melody of the beautiful song direct your voice.
I watched the documentary on the album. And Aguilara comes up to this mic, puts some lipstick on or something and starts singing. And I immediately think "this person is a super star." This is not something I think very often. I find most pop stars totally forgettable. She has something. I don't know what, but she has it. I had no idea who she was other than a pop star before I saw her in person on the documentary. I thought the same thing when John Mayer started singing. Herbie knew what he's doing with whom he chose. Obviously people like Paul Simon and Santana are automatically superstars. Anyways, it's always interesting to be sort of star struck by an artist's talent.
