Funny story about her casting. Originally, nobody wanted her to audition for Meg, because she was playing Belle in a Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast, a completely different character, in terms of personality. However, she insisted on being allowed to audition and Disney eventually caved. Fortunately, Ron Clements and John Musker have admitted that they were foolish in ignoring her, at first, and are proud of her performance.

I always knew it was a different actor singing than the speaking roles even as a kid !!!!

They did such an amazing job with those two actors! They both have such warmth, brightness, youth, and vulnerability in their voices. They fit together seamlessly.

@Dion Jordan That's not the point. The point is that the WAY he talks and acts is relatable. When something doesn't go his way, he literally blows up (Something we do as people). He is sly and acts cool, just like any person does when they want something they desire.

Wow I’ve commented the exact same thing before. Her sass and the grit on that line make her one of my all time favorite characters.

Oh my gosh yes!!! So many of the new live-action movies are very unfortunate! For example, and speaking of casting, have you heard Emma Watson singing in the Beauty and the Beast remake? 🤦‍♀️ It is so overprocessed that it doesn’t really sound human. Her real singing voice might be great, idk, but the computerized singing is awful. Lindsay Ellis, Sideways, and CinemaSins all did worthwhile reviews of the problems with the movie… long story short, Disney hired Emma Watson because of the way she looks (doesn’t fit at all-Belle is supposed to be soft and gentle in appearance, not angular, no?) and because of the political views she expresses. Then they remade the story and replaced the original character of Belle to be very much about politics and their take on feminism. I am very much in favor of equal rights, but holy cow, Disney took a softly feminine and loving, determined, yet gentle character, which is a valid way to be a woman, and turned her into a bossy political statement. 🙈 In The Lion King, they hired Beyoncé and didn’t give her a song to sing, Aladdin was just weird… I’m going back to watching animated movies, thank you all the same, Disney!

Heart? They’re the chorus. That means choir. That means backup/supporting cast.

Matilda only came out a year before Hercules

Because of the long production schedules for animated films, he was likely making Matilda while recording dialogue for Hercules

The fact that he also directed, starred in Matilda and made sure the actress who played Matilda was looked after has always made me respect Danny on another level.

Disney Renaissance

Used to love Disney but with all reboots and remakes it puts me to sleep cause it just doesn't keep me entertained like old Disney. Don't feel like they have any heart and soul like the cartoons did. Only thing I remotely enjoy is Pixar at least they been making Original stuff

I always felt this way too. Also Tate Donovan has such a youthful voice it would work either way. And his voice fits Hercules as a character more I think.

Tate Donovan did the speaking voice but Roger Bart did the singing. I saw him and Sutton Foster on stage during the initial run of “Young Frankenstein” before it went to Broadway. It was so cool!

He is a really amazing guy irl. He's the one who made me aware that Robin Williams had Lewy Body Dementia, which gave me some extra insight into Robin's later life - and death. I feel more Williams fans should know about this. but also, Bobcat is an amazing comedian and director. I really think he's underrated.

Netflix is making a lore Olympus series based on the webcomic. I hope they either get the voice actor who played him in the comic dub on Helvetica Dubs channel or James Wood. Those two guys are the only people I see playing the lord of the underworld. Or maybe Voltaire the singer.
