Sgt. Meme No, what gave you that idea? I was just making reference to the fact in Greek mythology it wasn't all that uncommon to have Zeus for a dad even if illegitimate.
To be fair, if I were in Phil's position and some random dude said "I'm Zeus' son!" I'd probably be like "Yeah, get in line, kid, there's a million 'Zeus' sons' out there, and also some 'Zeus' daughters'. You're not special."
@TV Show Reviews Im not saying that if some people dont like a movie its underrated. I'm saying this movie is underrated because a lot of people don't even know it exists and it doesn't get the love and appreciation its deserves. Its a good movie that isnt really known by a lot of people.
Iamsoup Probably because he’s trained like a million demi gods, so he thought that Herc was implying that him being a son of Zeus would be a selling point
Fun fact: Phil was animated by Eric Goldberg, the same guy who animated the Genie in the 1992 Aladdin film and animated Rabbit in the 2011 Winnie The Pooh film. Goldberg sure is a genius at animating characters.
He also did Louis in The Princess and The Frog. and all three movies had the same two directors, Ron Clements and John Musker who also did The Great Mouse Detective, The Little Mermaid, Treasure Planet, and Moana.
nobody gonna say anything about the fact that Hercules doesn't even bend the sword back? he just freaking flicks it and it goes straight again. amazing.
I really do find that funny, because if you ever read mythology, Zeus had a lot of kids. LOTS, as far as I know, he had kids with his daughters, granddaughters, and so on :P
IIC7 Well, gods are immortal, & all they can do up there is to get drunk & fuck everything that moves. That's how it was described in mythology, that the gods envied us humans because we could feel the sweet joy of not living for all eternity.
Danny Devito is such an underrated performer. His role of Phil showed a great range of realism, comedy, musical talent, and even drama more towards the end of the film. He gave a character who could have easily turned into a stock Disney sidekick and gave him a lot of very serious depth. Hats off to Frank Reynolds!
***** Oh, thanks for the correction. :) I'm sure you are tired of correcting people, but I'd have appreciated if you were a bit kinder in your correction. Thanks anyway for the correction. But be that as it may, Heracles was originally Greek before Romans adapted their mythology, so I'd say both versions are Greek... just Roman spelling/pronunciation of the Greek name.
Mic Roe Pony not sure what ur trying to say but this might clear things up Chronos - The greek personification of time Kronos - Titan and father of zeus, hades, poseidon etc
+Ырысбек Сапарбек Well, considering how fast that the rain cloud formed and dispersed, I'm not quite sure it could be anything other than Zeus. Also it was just that one lightning strike, then poof the cloud was gone.
I just realized, when he says "before that blasted underworld gets my goat". He is half goat. So he's basically saying, "before that blasted underworld gets my ass".
It's mostly because it's not a good representation of greek mythology. For example, Hercules is a roman god; not a greek one. As a movie, I found it really enjoyable. As an historical representation, I found it dull and stupid. It depends on how you want to look at it.
I don't see what is so weird about Hercules being the son of Zeus. I mean, have you read greek mythology, Phil? Everyone is his son for crying out loud
So when Phil says that 'Before that blasted underworld gets my goat', He is referring to, Before that blasted underworld gets my ass' since..y'know.. hes half goat.
OMG! That’s the point... it’s a joke. It’s a given that if someone is throwing swords that they’d aim. Rule number 96 was a rule Phil made up on the spot because Hercules wound up missing his target SO badly. 🤦🏻♀️
Mary McDaniel well theres that one god that makes him lightening bolts. i cant remember his name. hephestus? i think hes the god of weapons or something. its been awhile since ive done my research

'READ ME A BOOK WOULD YA DADDA? (Laughing) Zeus. ONCE UPON A TIME (Laughing)' Funniest part of the whole movie!!! One of my all time fave Disney movies EVER!!!
What I think is interesting is that it's implied that Phil was the trainer to Achilles (in the mythology it's Chiron, of course, but I think Chiron was also the mentor of Hercules) and yet he complains that none of them have ever gone on to be great. When Achilles is arguably the single most important Greek heros there is.
well Phil mentions that Achilles was super great either right before or after hercules, but he also mentions that he got killed by being shot in the heel which was disapointing
I get your point, but you do realise that pretty much everything in this movie is completely unlike the original story? You see the occasional shout out to it, but this is nothing like what supposedly happened.
Emma Wolf The story of Hercules is inspired* by the Roman and Greek myths that have shaped the demi god himself. Remember with Frozen? It was INSPIRED* by "The Snow Queen" from Hans Christian Anderson. Most (if not all) of these Disney movies are based off of or inspired, not necessarily verbatim at all.
Just before this scene, "Have you ever had a dreams- that-s...That. you. um.. you had- you'd- you wi- you could- you do- you wi- you wants- you. you could do som- you- you do, you could, you- he want- he want. him. to do you so much you can do anything?"
In the real mythology it would be more surprising if Zeus WASN'T Hercules father. Since he basically fathered like 95% of all Greek heroes/demigods with various mortal and immortal women.
Even then it would still work. Just imagine how many wannabe "heroes" came to Phil for training, claiming to be the son/daughter of this god or that goddess. Until he gets struck by lightning he has no reason to believe that Hercules isn't just another schmuck claiming to be a deity's child
i would think the goddess of love aphritite (or however u spell it) would have the most demigod children. after all she sleeps with everyone. but if i remember right i think it was hermes and dionysus that had the most demigod children. after all didnt the big 3 (zeus, poisidon, and hades) eventually make a deal that they would have no more demigod children because they were too powerful or something?
TVBnine but hades has had children. he has a wife after all. i think shes his neise. hades is the least likely to have demigod children since hes stuck with a full time job unlike the other gods but hes still had a few
Maybe Phil has just had enough of this kid, so when he says that Zeus is his father, Phil's like, "I'm totally done with this guy, please don't make Zeus his father!!
+Chari Mahariel captaincanine awesomeness in kinda right, I mean half of the original 12 Olympians are HIS kids, Aphrodite, Athena, Apollo, artimes, and ares are all his kids
Puppyyo10 +captaincanineawesomeness ...that's the joke, Zeus having a kid is one of the least shocking thing ever and that's why Phil questioning it is hilarious
+Corey Messick Right now is the Revival. Bolt, Princess & The Frog, Tangled, Wreck it Ralph, Frozen, Big Hero 6, Zootopia, Moana. I don't know about you, but that to me is an amazing list.
Corey Messick The Revival needs more love. 😔 What's wrong with the current string of Disney Movies? I'm so hyped for Moana what about you? Thanks for agreeing with me BTW.
Rule# 23: Always be hydrated. Rule# 45: Honor your enemy, even if you don't like them. Rule# 77: Always bring snacks. (Fruits, vegetables, and granola bars are excluded from this rule.)
+Jack Son Yup, it was Herc's mortality that was throwing Phil off a bit. That and I think Phil's supposed to be a teensy bit bitter about all of the failures of his past training efforts, which is kind of the point of this song...
+looneywoman If you listen closely to the lyrics, Phil trained other demi-gods and they ended up being failures as well, so he could've trained another child of Zeus, they ended up being a failure, and he's just mocking Herc.
"To be a true hero, kid, it's a dying art Like painting a masterpiece, it's a work of heart It takes more than sinew, comes down to what's in you You have to continue to grow" I don't know why, but that verse just stuck with me.
