Debated whether to post this publicly for a long time, well here it is!
Keep in mind this video was created in May. The AI has updated since then, and some stuff may be different.
Cow elk are a lot flightier, and bull elk are lot more aggressive.
Luring is much more efficient.
A couple notes:
- This can be done with any animal that has a chase behavior (elk, moose, bison) and even animals that don't (deer, pronghorn) if you tire them out first.
- Carcasses decay much slower, since you're near them constantly.
- It WILL NOT attract predators. It does attract eagles, bald and golden, but they DO NOT attack pups. Carcass competitors and pup predators spawn differently.
- Predators that attack pups will, as of recent updates, try to sneak a bite if they're close enough to. They do this with ANY food, not just carcasses (chunks, hares, beavers, other carriables like newborns).
- Pups DO eat from big carcasses, once they're able to eat on their own. It's a good idea to save den carcasses for pups, and eat elsewhere yourself.
- If you're doing this in multiplayer, IT'S ALWAYS EASIER ALONE. More wolves nearby means less control of the elk, and more chances of having someone kill your elk early. Let players herd ON THEIR OWN unless they ask for help.
