During the Just Say Yo episode, Carlton is worried about what might happen to his reputation, specifically if he wanted to run for office, and the nurse tells him to say that he didn’t inhale. This is a reference to Bill Clinton saying that he didn’t inhale weed in college.

Will Smith actually had a lot of debt before taking on this series, and he owed the IRS quite a bit of money for his time in music. Will had to pay 70 percent of his salary for the first few seasons to pay off his debt.

NBC ended up canceling the show after the fourth season, but after receiving so many fan letters requesting the show to continue, they decided to renew it.
