i love your breakfast! i've had a happy way choc smoothie every morning for years, It's my all time fav. so very glad your sweet mum is on the road to recovery. xx
Oh your poor Mum. I had that the last long bank holiday weekend spent four days in bed. I couldn’t get to the doctors quick enough on the Tuesday morning to get some antibiotics. Hope she is better soon. I cannot believe the amount of things you fit in. Lovely to watch your videos. ❤️
I think it would go against the eBay policy of an acceptable book as even an acceptable condition book needs to have the pages attached to the spine. I wouldn't want to open myself up to an item not as described. I could possibly try facebook though
Hey Mel I’ve actually found that super old books sell well as decor. There’s a market for people wanting to buy old, even torn up books, to use as decor or to dissect for art or DIY projects. A lot of people I sell them to only use the pages!
I love to see more of the behind the scenes and daily life in the business. I found a couple haul videos from a year ago, but I'm really curious how long it actually takes you to sort, comp, and organize a large haul of 100+ books when the video is only 30-40 minutes.
I guess each haul is different as some are single books and some are bundles. Some have stickers that can be a little time consuming to peel off and others don’t have any. But if I’m doing single books then I have photograph, put away and list 40 in 2 hours.
Also it depends if it’s a haul I have cherry picked and chosen myself as then I know exactly what I have. If it’s a haul that I’ve got on Facebook marketplace where I’ve not seen the individual books then it might take me a little longer as I’m not sure what books I might be able to bundle
Just watched out of curiosity as I’m intending to start my own online bookstore as a side hustle with my writing career. Your video was very interesting and amusing. Love your sense of humor. 😅 I’ve decided to create a letter and number product code system to keep all my books and other products organized. With so many books, I imagine you do something similar.
Thank you so much for the update I always have a tendency to worry about you when I haven’t seen you for a while on my screen! Lol glad your mom is getting better!
Thank you! I had to slow down in the videos after covid as I’ve struggled with so much fatigue and brain fog. I’m hoping it won’t last too much longer and I can get back to my normal uploading routine x
💕You’re a good Mom and Daughter and Sister 💕 I know this is and older post as I am watching it but want you to know I appreciate your encouragement to your viewers as you set a good example. PS. Don’t forget to take care of yourself too. 💕
Hi Mel! Thanks for keeping me company while I did the rest of listings today. Your videos are like a treat for me. I always look forward to your videos. I hope your mom feels better soon.
Ha ha ha, there is nothing worse then the feeling of not being able to find an item that's sold! I'm lucky it doesn't happen to me very often and I've made it a habit now of checking my SKU right before I press list!
@@backfromburnout We shout "Nil Pick!", and then check... above, below, behind, adjacent, and through... before running around in a panic, waving our arms. At this point Nadia usually walks over calmly, finds the product on the shelf, or tells us we've misread the location. Oops!
@@backfromburnout For me I would probably just say every two weeks. But biweekly would be the equivalent of fortnight. I like fortnight! I enjoy your videos.
I hope your mother recovers well from her time in the hospital. It's great she had someone there with her! It's sweet that you're thankful for eBay, but they didn't give you those orders, you earned them by working diligently. eBay should be thanking sellers like yourself for bringing business to their platform when they're struggling to maintain a consistent customer base during a recession when people aren't buying luxury items. Us resellers deserve an employee appreciation day 😂
So sorry your mum has been unwell. Glad she is feeling a lot better. OMG I nearly fainted when I saw all those books. Knowing you I expect most of them have been sorted, donated or binned already. I felt as though I was in the shed with you sharing your Day in the Life video. Great content as usual. Hope you managed to get your groceries and have a decent meal with your family. Best wishes to your mum xx
Thank s Joan, I have have done about half the books lol. Hoping to get through the rest of them today as I actually got another car full of free books yesterday LOL
@@backfromburnout OMG Where have you managed to put them all? You really are a glutton for punishment. Forget about a new car. Just buy a LARGE TRANSIT VAN!!!!!!
Awh the reseller nightmare not being able to find an item - Urgh. Glad you got it sorted. Wow getting all those free books is amazing although alot of work!!!! Keep up the great vlogs
Hi...Mel. Another great video. Be careful with the Subways... they're full of sugar and refined carbohydrates - they'll make you sluggish and give you brain fog. Hope your mum gets better really soon ❗👍
I wish I had your energy Ms Mel, after getting Covid in January I get bouts of fatigue and get breathless if I do too much. But I do love working for myself too.
I get soooooo breathless now and i'm breathing so heavy! I still have to take the asthma puffer sometimes! It looks like I got stuck with the long covid! I hope you're feeling better soon also x
So happy to hear your mum is doing better. I’ve been in that chair for both my mum and dad so many times. That was a fun video to watch! Loving your hair color! 💞
So fun to watch your eBay day while I packed my own eBay orders! You’re a good girl sitting with your mum for four whole days. Can’t imagine my kids doing that. 😂 Hope your orders start streaming back in soon, after your your slack listing week. Listing regularly really is the key to high sales, isn’t it. Take care, Mel. 🥰
Thank you! Yes, listing consistently is the absolute key to consistent sales. And the more you list the more sales you then get in return. Back to the grind and back listing now :)
Wow 82 orders of books, some multiple. Don’t know how you manage that! So inspiring to get my mojo going. Glad your mom is better. In the states it is pronounced die-ver-tic-you-lie-tis. 😊
MMMMM love subway!!! Glad to hear you Mum is on the mend Mel and glad your business gives you the flexibility.... Glad you found the bible.... thanks for sharing !!
Mel, I know you're not an antiquarian book seller, but antique books can and do sell in any condition you can imagine, even with the cover separated like that. As long as the pages are together. Some folks will even go to the extent of getting them professionally rebound.
God bless you and God bless your mama!! You are so lucky to still have her with you. Miss my folks every single day. I am exhausted watching your video!! If you could put your energy on eBay I would be your #1 customer!! Good luck with your newest load!
Thank you for the keywords! I was wondering if there was a craft category for them as books listed in acceptable condition are required to have pages still intact.
So interesting. I still have it I just need to work out how to list it as I can’t really put it in the book category as an acceptable condition book must be still together with no pages missing. I perhaps need to look in the scrapbooking or craft category instead.
Hi Mel, so happy to hear that your mom is doing better. Diverticulitis (Diver - Tick- U- Lite - Us) is nothing to sneeze at for sure. My mom had that and developed an ulcer that created an abscess. After a colonoscopy doctor recommended that the abscess be removed and intestines sewn back together. Long story short, surgery didn't go well and my mom was in an induced coma for 2 months, all told in hospital or rehab for 4 months. I was a mess, so was my dad. She's fine now, back to normal, pretty much. She's my hero and the strongest woman I know. So keep an eye on your mom, no popcorn, seeds or nuts from now on. Eat your veggies and fiber for sure. God bless you, your mom and your family.
Hi Mel.... good to hear your Mum is feeling better. I too don't know why we have to sign those labels.... at times I ship something out with a Courier and no need to sign that....but yes a very fun-filled day in your Life :D
So happy your mom is doing better, prayers she gets through what comes ahead. The Dr thought it may have been my Diverticula acting up a few weeks ago but it was my kidney infection and stones. Either way, it's all very painful 💜💜💜
I feel for you in not being able to find the Bible book. Nothing aggravates me about selling on ebay as much as I aggravate myself when I let an item go missing. :) Glad you found it!!
Hi Mel, love your videos, just a question please. I noticed that when you print labels from a mypost business account you pay for shipping based on weight before you take them to the post office. Is this correct? Do you weigh your items at home and calculate shipping at home or how does this work? Thank you!
Praise the lord, thank god you found that bible! Your Subway looked tasty! Still haven't got that new car yet, what you been doing Lol. Glad to hear you mum's doing much better! Enjoyed the video, thanks Mel.
Nom nom! I just can't decide what car I want! I keep jumping from different options. The problem is a lot of the time I only need a small car. When I have a big load in my car it would be useful to have a larger car but I also don't want to pay for a car bigger then my needs for the other 80% of the time. So I need to find that medium sized car that still has a little bit of grunt with a large boot lol
Have you thought about selling books as either home decor lots (can even lot them by spine color) or as crafting lots? Old book lots sell as well. These type of lots sell on all platforms.
Sorry to hear about your mom being in hospital. General reselling question . I know that you have mentioned starting to build up your drafts. Are you saving them for a specific time like a vacation? Why not use some of them over the few days you were at the hospital with your mom?
I build the drafts, then they get used on busy days or on filming/editing days and then I'm back to 0 and unfortunately when mum went into hospital I once again had no drafts! It's a vicious circle trying to get that draft bank full and keep it full! It's my biggest struggle trying to do it. I need one spare week where I do nothing but list lol
Hey girl in Australia! Me again. I have the most stupid question. I’ve been getting some books from the library. Should I take off the plastic covers? It seems like they protect the dust covers. Idk, off or leave on? Btw, I hope your mom is doing well. I always miss mine.💕
I leave them on the library books. I mark all my library books in acceptable condition as they normally have covers, stamps inside and stickers on the spine etc. Don’t forget to add the item specific that says ex-libris
hello Mel it"s always a pleasure to see one of yours videos.I"ve started to sell serioulsly on ebay and Le bon coin (french platform sell) since 2 month and i have some question, do you specialize yourself in type of book (thriller ,sify ,childbook) and Is it the condition of a book that makes you buy it? sorry for my english thanks France
I feel that stress of not finding an item. You should try to sell that book on different categories eBay or FB. Eat and nap, nope, not for a reseller 💜💜
Hi Mel, watching your latest video as you unpack the box of things collected by the hoarder. Wondering do you use the "camera" to lookup similar items, or scan the barcode. I'm just a dabbler but often find some matches that help me. Love to yourself and mum in getting back to full health. cheers
Glad to hear your mum is doing better! I'd try selling the damaged book anyway, even if it's at a discounted price. There's bound to be someone who will want it.
Thank you. The acceptable rating on eBay says the binding may be slightly damaged but integrity is still intact so because this one has a missing side to the cover and the other is totally removed I don't think eBay would like this to be listed but I could try it on Facebook to see if someone wants it for some craft
Love watching you Mel💖 wish I had more possibilities to pick up good books as you do🤔 I live in a small town i Sweden and don't have much happening within 100 km. It is what it is😅. Be good and well. Love Rose
Wow, watching from Sweden! I love that! Thank you for following me. I bet where you live is absolutely beautiful, it can be really hard for people who have to be sourcing in small towns and I do feel very lucky I have so many books available to me always.
I have a dymo 5XL printer that I use. Rolls of new labels cost over $60 for a 250 pack. I’m doing about 250 sales every 3 weeks. So I’m gonna be buying around $4000 worth on labels per year which I find is crazy. Is there a way u save money on label. Is there a way I don’t know about? Or do u just do the similar thing
I use the Dymo 4XL and buy cheap generic labels on eBay. I pay $37 for 1100 labels. This is a big problem with the new Dymo 5XL. You might be better to see if you can find a second hand 4XL and resell the 5XL.
@@backfromburnout is says on the box to only use genuine labels. Does it say that on the 4Xl as well? If so I’ll just buy generic ones For the 5XL or is it just not gonna work 🥲
I once bought a little songbook that was about as worn as the one you had. Each page had a nice illustration along with a patriotic song, so I sold each page for $8. Ironically, if the book had been in good shape, it would've only been about $50. I would never destroy a nice book, but it's totally gone, consider salvaging the artwork if there is any.
I really enjoy your channel. I have lots of books but when I look then up on eBay I see that many of them are only asking $3.99 with free shipping! How do you make money selling books? I looked up the one you sold that you couldn’t find, the one about how to read the Bible. Same thing. There are so many of them listed for 3 or 4 dollars with free shipping. Some even have volume discounts. It’s just not feasible once you pay shipping and eBay fees. How do you earn any income? Also, when I sell things I have to input the weight and size of the package in order to pay the proper shipping fee. When you print your labels the night before and you haven’t packed your items yet, how do you know how much to pay for shipping?
I also didn't know much about selling books when I started. I just started selling books amongst all my clothing/shoes etc and I learnt as I went. I also got a lot of free books from Facebook which helped me learn a lot about books that sell well for me and those that don't.
Don’t mind me just watching you search for How to Read the Bible hoping you find it, even though it arrived today and is sitting on the couch next to me!
The old book still has value in the poor state. Crafters make "junk journals" and other things and use the pages of the book. Sometimes the old books have genuine lithographs for illustrations. Any illustrations can be used for collage or decoupage.
I wonder how I would list it as in the book category an acceptable book still needs to have the pages intact. Maybe there is a crafting category. I’ll have to investigate
@@backfromburnout You could list it as junk journal supplies, especially if there are illustrations. I wouldn't say "book" since people sell the junk journal books they've made as j.j. books. It would be good if you could add some other old ephemera. There are a lot of RU-vid demonstrations of junk journaling if you're interested in what they're doing. They use the book's pages and call them that: book pages.
Ah but the burning question about your subway is did they put lettuce on it? Apparently KFC is putting cabbage on their burgers due to the cost of lettuce at the moment.
@backfromburnout Can you please do one episode where you hunt for books, what tools you use to find best sell thru rates on ebay, expected profit per book, where you hunt for them. Please
I'm planning a trip to Sydney which I think would be a good video to document myself thrifting because then I'm going into stores that I don't know so it will be a good way to show my thought process when sourcing. It's harder to show it here as I get some "back room access" to stores and because I also shop in some stores regularly I scan those stores so fast with my eyes as many of the books are the same ones in there as the last time I went shopping if that makes sense.
@@backfromburnout 100 of us lost jobs. I had 22 years in and due to supply chain issues the auto industry is horrible right now. No end in sight for next 4 plus years. So I want to open one shop for books and one shop for used shoes. I have to replace 200k a year. My wife wants to help. We love your videos but we are clueless on what tools to use for sell thru rates on books for eBay. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We're in Texas, so you have loyal fans very far away. 💙😀
DON'T DUMP THE 1910 DICTIONARY! In good condition, they sell in the hundreds. You can get at least $50 - $100 in that condition. One with taped-on covers sold for US$200.
@@backfromburnout There's a special category for Antiquarian & Collectable Books where those condition grades don't apply. Search for "missing covers" and you'll see a lot of books in similar condition.
Well it happened again! Books are your best friends and free as well. Couldn't get any better than that Mel! I was amazed! And in one of your comments you mentioned you got more free books! Well it is listing time again. Glad your mom is doing better. Guess a change in diet will help as well. Look forward to your next video. You are inspiring me to start eBay with books as well! Blessings!
Yes, I have so many free books here at the moment to sort through it's crazy! It's almost as if every time I run low on books the universe hears my call and sends me another huge haul! Thank you so much for watching I really appreciate it
Wouldn't having an assistant be worth the cost because it will free up your time to do other things? Say you make a list of priorities and the daily schedule, and then assign certain things to your assistant. Assign things you dislike doing that are time consuming. I hope you consider this because you're not superwoman and you're limiting your success and quite possibly hurting yourself in ways that aren't apparent. Here's one quick thought you can consider- how many times do you pick up or move the same bag or stack of books? Your truthful answer will tell you many things about the way the business is being run. Work smart, not hard. You need one or more interns/assistants. Treat your business like you're running a freaking empire and eventually you will!
