Hell, they literally took his name from him! For a while, anyway. Remember when he was the symbol? That was because his name was trademarked by the label for the duration of his contract (or some such). Mind you, his legal first name on his birth certificate is Prince. So he sidestepped the issue. The man was more than just a musical genius. He was incredibly intelligent and a thinker too.

@Flo-mh3pz
@Flo-mh3pz Год назад
Slightly different though in that Prince was not as dependent on the machine as Michael was... Both very talented artists in their own right, but in terms of creativity, as Prince more or less said, without the contract, he DIDN'T really need them.
@auntjenifer7774

Everyone knows. It's what you do with what you know !
@elnorey
@elnorey Год назад
@@Flo-mh3pz Michael wasn’t dependent either, he also had his studios, and he never had this same problem. Michael made enemies in the industry because of his huge success and riches he attained from his albums and the ATV catalogue. Which lead to them using him as a scapegoat in the media. It was more so about his image. The manipulation with his work came decades later, when Mottolla refused to promote Invincible and blackballed his album.
@Flo-mh3pz
@Flo-mh3pz Год назад
@@elnorey Ok, fair enough, but if each of them were to be locked in a studio alone with instruments, I think Prince would come out with something more substantial. As I said, both were very talented in their own right, but Prince had the creative edge imho, but each to their own... We can go back & forth forever as obviously fans of both artists will always be loyal to them, ourselves included... At the end of the day, we have lost two very special artists who were taken from us way before their time... The legacies they left behind though, will go on... That in itself is worth celebrating...
@elnorey
@elnorey Год назад
@@Flo-mh3pz Instruments are the strongest point of Prince‘s artistry, so he does have that advantage. This is like saying to lock them in a room with a random song playing and see who comes up with a better choreography. However, it would be hard to measure and argue who would come up with something more substantial given that Michael did write every part of the song including for the instruments, and could play drums, guitar, piano, and beatbox, and did his own harmonies and so on. Just two greats nothing more

Many famous artists have written hit songs but lack of resources during the early part of their careers . Many made the mistake by signing the unfair contract. The recording company gets them to sign their contract . They invest / promotes their songs and when the the song become a hit on the charts . The record company makes millions while the artist doesn't. The artist, as in this situation, is reminded about the bad contract he signed .

Well yeah but you need some kind of structure to allow you to distribute your music to the audience and profit off of it. When Prince started in music, the record companies were really the only practical way to do that. Now with the internet more and more the record companies can pretty much be cut out of the equation.
@J_M_D
@J_M_D 2 года назад
They had the artist drowning in debt from where they charged the artist or group for using their studio time distribution, legal fees etc. That way they controlled you the artist, group etc not to mention for far too many years the "industry" actually had full ownership of your music, lyrics everything, it's sad how long they were able to get away with it. So basically if you were a one-hit wonder and you couldn't follow it up with the next top 40 hits then you were out on your ass and O-yah plus the kicker was you left owning them money.
@J_M_D
@J_M_D 2 года назад
I think it is amazing how at least in the end they the "industry " lost everything better than they deserved. Just imagine the last stockholder's meeting all those greedy ass holes having panic attacks, crying, screaming, yelling at the underlings they see their money illegal operation being brought down by this one amazing artist that even offered them a chance to renegotiate this completely bogus contract and they could keep the slave trade that they started going like it was he was just asking for a fair share, he could have asked for all the profits from his music sales but he didn't do that and instead of compromising to save their entire industry and compromise their 400% profits they gambled and lost it all basically because they failed to see the power of the internet.

I don’t know if that’s what happened or not, but word on the street is it happened to a woman out here, over $10, when she was too sick to work off a front. So why not, over a few million and being exposed? How does anyone really know that doesn’t happen, in the music industry? It is known that the CIA distributed drugs to subversives, in the United States, and has experimented on prisoners without their knowledge, or under false pretenses of drugs to find a cure for schizophrenia, when it was LSD, to see if a person would go crazy, after a year of daily use.(re:Whitey Bulger). No doubt, it would be a good idea to make someone look crazy, if you plan to OD them with lethal amount of drugs, especially if they aren’t known to use drugs. I’m not saying, nor do I have information to believe anything like that did happen, but it’s just logic that you would want to establish that someone is mentally unstable, if you wanted to stage an erratic and dangerous behavior, as a cause of death. These events are on record and many have been admitted to or come out in adjudication proceedings, such as the CIA’s role in cocaine smuggling and distribution. It’s not a conspiracy theory, when it had been proven in a court of law and/or is on public record such as the vested interests much of the FDA had in OxyContin, when it was approved. Look at the number of fatal overdoses that were allowed to happen and look at the money. Most people stop short of murder, but pharmaceutical companies get away with it. It’s possible that record companies have, too, I’ve never really thought about this and am not invested in the idea. Still, Purdue was giving big kickbacks to anyone who could distribute MS Contin, and OxyContin, around the time Michael Jackson purportedly was prescribed the drug for pain and Prince died of an opioid overdose. I don’t know if they found the exact compound that killed him and what prescription that might be, but one full opioid works the same as another and I didn’t care which I was prescribed, when I was in pain.
