Here’s what happens when we are cooped up too long. Cheap entertainment!

This is how children entertained themselves before video games, FaceTime and cell phones. I learned this hand routine on the playground in first grade, taught it to my two daughters and now, my granddaughter can do it better than anyone. Friday night fun! LOL

Wasn’t this a silly video! My granddaughter, Elizabeth, is just my same height and size and she and I have been doing this silly hand routine since she was about three years old. I had to get down on my knees back then and slowly teach her the rhythm and movements and she will just break out and do this hand clap at a moments notice. We were all together celebrating my birthday and having my family close, makes me so happy! Hope you have a wonderful upcoming week and thank you so much for commenting and connecting my brother.

Hello Jannell, this is such a silly video but my granddaughter Elizabeth wanted to show the world what someone, my age, did before technology took over. It is truly cheap entertainment and we usually act pretty crazy when we get together anyway. Hope you all are doing well and staying healthy! Love you and give Cooper a pat and scratch behind the ear from me. Love, Beverly

Hi Marsha, I just thought I would share my age, just turning 63 yesterday. The immediate family was in town to cook for me and celebrate so I thought I would share an activity that people my age did before video games, PlayStation, cell phones etc. Just a simple hand routine but really fun to teach to a little child. Have a great upcoming week and thanks for connecting! Love, Beverly

I love this! These always looked and sounded so fun to me when I was little but I didn't get to learn very many of them. I loved these things and the double dutch jump rope sets that had stuff you say with them! There would always be ones I had not heard yet, in every new town and school. Another thing I loved was the making of elaborate hopscotch either chalked or carved into the dirt. We made our own little jewelry type tokens to pitch out onto the hopscotch grid and have to pick up and do some stunt in the game there. A lot of times we would make the token onto a necklace or bracelet, and just wear it all the time like our signature item. I guess the little spoken part reminded me of the hopscotch as well as double dutch jumprope. Those all had sayings and stunts. 💖

Hi Audrey, yes, I think it is fascinating what we as children learned to do before TV and video games took over our interests. There certainly was a great deal of skill involved and I had forgotten about hopscotch and the tokens and how we valued the tokens by wearing them and carrying them around with us. Brings back some fun but old memories! Thanks for sharing your experiences and hope you have a wonderful upcoming week! Love, Beverly

This also reminds me of a funny yet appalling song that is fun to sing sometimes called, Miss Otis Regrets.

Hello Bill, yes, I am so old that these kind of activities are how we spent our free time when I was a kid. Of course, free time was only after all of the chores and homework had been done. LOL. Thanks for connecting!

@@bamablind9916 Wow! You are old! Since you lived so long ago, maybe you can answer a question I've had for awhile. When you were a kid and you and your parents went to town for supplies, How did you lock up your wagon and horses? Also, did you know anyone famous like Betsy Ross or Harriet Tubman? If so, what were they like? Did you have running water in your house?

Don’t get me started! First, we did not have thieves back then stealing horses and wagons and such. Everybody in town was acquainted with everyone else so no one could get away with thievery or stealing. Secondly he was well acquainted with both Betsy Ross and Harriet Tubman and they were outstanding Women, historical figures who deserved their notary a T for very different reasons, but famous nonetheless. My town has artesian wells so we have had running water for over 200 years now. Heating the water is a different story but we had our own ways of doing that as well. Thank you for being so interested in my life’s story! I could go on and on but it would then be called a book and you would have to purchase it from a bookstore or download it from Audible which would probably cost too much anyway, because it would be such a best seller! LOL!

I’m just curious! Is Elizabeth at your daughter? You were in the freeze to? Did y’all‘s power go out to?

Hi Maria, Elizabeth, who is the same height and general size as me, is actually my granddaughter, age 15. Her mom is my first born and I have taught them these silly hand routines since they were little children. We did not get the deep freeze as did our neighbors in other states although it has been very cold. It will actually warm up to about 70° in the upcoming week which will be nice for Gretchen and me to get out walking. Thanks for connecting and have a great week!
