I mean the fact that lots of idols from jype groups that have disbanded are still in touch with jyp have a good relationship with him personally and professionally, I wouldn’t put all the blame on jyp himself. Jype has very reasonable restrictions. It’s well known that JYPE has a 3-year dating ban starting from debut which makes sense in terms of focusing on your new career and establishing yourself in the industry first. Also, Sunmi has since collaborated with and supported jyp numerous times. The agency has been around for decades and is as big as they are for a reason. Additionally, jyp isn’t the only person running the company. I’m so tired of this narrative about jyp himself being the worst
@Thinktwice9
@Thinktwice9 Год назад
I totally agree with you, since all of the major companies do have its flaws. I haven't seen other idols from other agencies have such a close bond compare to JYP. Sometimes they just want to put their idols in a successful position and can be demanding or wanting to put them in a comfortable position.

Thank you for saying this! If I were a kpop artist, I’d rather work with JYPE than the other companies overall. I don’t dislike the other entertainment companies, I’d just prefer JYPE…JYP seems like a person of similar mind/business acumen.

I'd also say that idols leaving jyp before their contract is supposed to end is probably not such a bad thing, other companies will refuse or have even taken legal action before. jype allows it. It's like how ppl have said that the company clearly has the worst mental health because of all the jype idols going on hiatus for it. The issue's more the other way around, in that jype lets idols take breaks for mental health when needed while other companies will ignore it until they can't anymore. Also yeah ppl blaming jyp personally for every single thing the company does is kinda weird. He's not been in charge of the company for over a decade now, and people still forget that somehow
@Syzergyize
@Syzergyize Год назад
People hate on JYP cause he's a meme, ugly etc. Which is really weird when the idols personally have very good things to say about him. And most of the things people bring up about him is basically from the company and not him too. He hasn't been the CEO since 2012 IIRC. But imo that's also what happens when you're the face of the company.

I’m so sad Jinni left NMIXX, but I also think it’s wrong to speculate why she left. The reality is we don’t know if she left of her own volition or was asked to leave. I hope she does well in her future endeavors. Also, I don’t know if this rule was in effect in 2016 for Day 6, but JYP himself said idols cannot date until three years into their career. They are meant to focus on their work and establishing themselves. Once they reach their three years, they are free to date. Jihyo was past that three year mark when she started dating Kang Daniel, so it was okay.

When I first heard Jinni left I thought maybe she didn't want to pursue idol life anymore. Nowadays, more and more young children are thrown and pushed into the entertainment industry, possibly by their parents or of their own volition. Perhaps she kept going to avoid disappointing her parents because they had sacrificed so much to support her and she had worked so hard to prepare for her debut. Then after debuting and getting to experience what it's like to be an actual K-pop idol, she thought it was not for her. I thought maybe that's why she was getting so emotional at her last fansign event. She was probably contemplating whether to continue her idol career or leave the entertainment industry for the sake of her mental health. If that is not the case, then it must be due to creative differences. As long as she is happy, I will continue to support her on her new path.

A little correction the kpop industry always debuted young kids 13-16 it isn't something new that happening it just you got older and now you're noticing that. But yeah they start training as such a young age because of some idol dream that not for sure actually for them this is why I think companies should debut/start training only people who graduated so they would still have open doors but companies clearly don't care about those stuff.

I dont think they allow the artists to date in rookies year since the company wants you to work hard and build your career as well as fame first. The early days are really important in building their value and fame. But I do agree with creativity, even 2pm only get their creative freedom later on after years of JYP title's track, thus many of their song have "Jay Why Peeh" innit lol. I guess, after got7, many get their own freedom IF they can write songs that are accepted in quality and "value" by the company. Each company have their own values and color anyway, and this will make audience recognizes who they were and where they came from. ALSO, JYPE didnt really support their solo artist as much as their groups, I do think that is one of the reason they let go some of the artists.

I don’t think the dating ban is that strict anymore. JYP told ITZY to “only date gentlemen” and to be wary of bad men in the industry before their 3 year dating “ban” was over. I think as time is going past jyp has started taking a step back with creative direction. Skz is an amazing example of this. Especially thr skz replay album. We saw every colour that skz hadn't gotten to show. I also respect jype for giving 3racha an opportunity to debut in the hip hop scene before debut. The fact that their idols are able to leave and the company respects their privacy by not revealing the reason, is so much better than most companies! Yes, they overwork them but I think the industry normalises working yourself almost to death. That’s something that needs to change across the board. Mark and Haechan aren’t in JYP but they’re overworked so much. Look at LOONA, it’s not just a JYP issue. In regards to creative freedom, I guess it depends on the relationship with the staff members and the division.
@between1218
@between1218 Год назад
Actually what a lot of fans as well as OP don’t know is that there is a huge shift in management and operational freedom. JYP never used to work in divisions and was very controlling over artist creativity. However it all changed with Twice, where JYP experimented building a team ard a group and that became a major success. Twice is nation’s girl group then turning into international success. With Twice, JYP also abandoned the house style of half air half voice. Everyone sang in their unique voices - Nayeon, Jihyo etc. and with this successful experiment he tried it with all subsequent groups, Itzy, Straykidz, Nmixx etc. so yes older groups like WG and GOT7 was from the JYP old style of management. However one thing remained consistent, JYP will let go of artist if they’re not adhering to company values - Jay Park, Jinni, Hyuna etc.

Got7 is better off without JYP now and doing their own stuff but they’re always thankful for the man himself and the company. There's a couple of problems with what you're saying. First than anything Epik High is a horrible example because YG took them when they were in a pretty bad spot because of controversies and helped them grow once again, after that Epik High decided to leave because they had different plans and they left without having any problems with YG. The 2 members from Treasure also aren't a good example because the only thing we know is what YG said, which was that Mashiho left for health issues and Yedam because he wants to be a producer, and if that it's true then i don't see the problem, i actually think it's crazy that they let them leave. Bigbang renewed theire contract 3 times before some of them decided to leave and for the time being none of them have criticized YG after leaving and the group still exists. PSY decided to leave because he wanted to create his own company so i don't see the problem there either. So even though they had bad moves (mainly with 2NE1), i don't agree with most of the rest.

I've only been into Kpop for 1.5 years, but to my limited knowledge, JYP seems like the best company to work for of the big 3. Artists are leaving YG in mass right now and the transition from less music and more commercials and ads is depressing, even if it is a business strategy. SM seems to waste their talent the most, such as with NCT, and also not promote their musicians enough. Also more than one idol whose committed suicide has come from SM, so that should tell you something. Starship Entertainment and HYBE I don't know as much about, but promoting only one member of IVE is not smart and for HYBE, I really don't like what their sub company ADOR is doing with Newjeans releasing songs like cookie. He left them to themselves and support them. So today, skz make their own music however they would like to make. They do everything about music they want. Also it's so surprising that "JYP didn't create STray kids" yeah, leader BangChan made this group together. He choose the members. They choose their group names even their logos. They always creat their own music." Actually no one take such a risk that support a group which you didn't create. It was too risky i think. But jyp took a risk and supported Stray Kids, signed a contract and just accept their group in their own way... Just because of that, i have so much respect for JYP. Sunmi actually did leave Wonder Girls and return a few years later. I don't remember the details but she seemed to be struggling with her mental health and her actual health when she was in Wonder Girls originally so JYPE let her leave for a few years and focus on school. When she was ready, she rejoined the group and after that I think she stayed until they disbanded. However, she's the only person I've ever heard of doing that. Of course both Mina and Jeongyeon took long breaks from Twice so you could say that it was similar except that in Sunmi's case she was actually announced to have left and then wasn't in the group for a few years after while Mina and Jeongyeon were still considered members of Twice.

My mom and I had this conversation about what makes her sad is when we find out that an idol leaves specifically because of creative differences. K-pop Companies seek and bring ppl in to make them a "star" so you would think that when the artist is in their company they themselves would have complete freedom to explore their sound and find their voice in music. In K-pop, there is very little room to expand, but there are K-pop companies who do break away and allow their artist to make the music they want. Now, seeing this video it makes it that much more difficult and much more sense about JYP himself. He is stuck on this one singular image. He is in the trot Era still for himself, and he has not allowed himself to fully explore. He's also a perfectionist, which makes everything he does about his artistis 1000X's more difficult. With JYP, someone needs to say it, that JYP holds back and hinders a number of artists in the company. It's heartbreaking when any JYPE artist leaves. It's like a piece of the puzzle is missing. One would think that as many people and fans point out, these k-music industry companies need idols, and without them, they have nothing. These idols are the ones making the companies their money, so these companies need to step back a pay credit to them where it's needed and due. Unfortunately, a lot of K-pop companies make themselves or should I say place themselves on the highest pedestal above the artist when it comes to music (image is a whole different topic to talk about), and they say it's their way or the highway, which is why a lot of idols leave. It should not be like that, but it's sad that it is the way that it is. I will point out that with N.Mixx and Straykids, their music is so diverse from the very beginning. So there are those that do. Of course, not every K-pop company fits in this description. There are very small few that give their artist the creative freedom. JYP has his upside not disclosing the reasons why a few artist artists leaving are very commendable. It leaves the notion that both parties were on the same page for a departure. So when Jinni left, I was baffled and really sad. So we will never know the reason for her leaving, and that's okay. Just support her wherever she goes and the rest of N.Mixx, too.

I just wanted to point out this comment: "you would think that when the artist is in the company they themselves would have complete freedom to explore their sound and find their voice in music" this is not the case for most big major labels/companies/agencies. I don't know how old are you, but, when I was in college circa 2004-2010, I hang out a lot with music communities. most of the bands in the communities are indies. there, I learned that major labels/companies/agencies take full control of their artist, even stir away their genre. if you follow music and musicians long enough, you'd see that many musicians have different genres or musical styles when they're on a major label, compared to when they're indies why is this happening? because major labels/companies/agencies only care about 1 thing: money. they'll see what can be sold and make a lot of money in the market, and push their artists towards that road, whether the artists like it or not. nothing wrong with it. this is business. companies need to be sure to survive this is why, there are countless indie label musicians that, after finishing several albums in the contract with a major label, decide to not continue the contract and prefer to back to an indie label. because this is the way for them to have musical freedom, and not be interrupted or pushed by anyone in any direction they didn't like I don't know much about Korean musical labels/agencies, as, from what I see, they didn't perform the same way as the ones outside Korea. but, I see J-Hope and Vernon's solo music has, like, entirely different genres compared to their groups. which I take, HYBE is one of the labels/agencies that give their artists their freedom, in some way

Overworked is such a strong word. Twice and Stray Kids have more than 6 members. There will surely be at least one member that would seem more tired than the others. But that doesn't mean they're overworked. They get a lot of rest and free time in comparison to other groups from other companies that don't even produce music as much as they do. They are both a big group. That means they need to work harder than the smaller groups. That's actually natural. All JYPE groups work hard to get the recognition they have now. Also, it won't always be perfect. Every career path is a learning process. JYPE may have learned a lot from their past artists over time, and that really shows in their currently active artists. So saying that JYPE isn't the best group among the three companies mentioned, is the lie here. SM entertainment may be treating their artists well, but I don't see them managing groups as big as JYPE has. The music and the recognition they have in comparison to JYPE, is not even on the same level. For YG, this is obviously the worst company among the three. They claim they don't overwork their artists but they also milk their artists for money by creating mediocre songs for them. They treat their artists like cash cows and that just doesn't sit well to me. So I think the one you should've made a video for is YG.

Question is if JYP doesn’t do what he did, will it be successful like that ? tbh it’s JYP song, as producer he actually have right to tell a singer to follow his instructions for songs matter but if that wasn’t his songs but telling her to do this and that then it’s concerning Stray Kids and Day6 are built under base self-made actually they cannot be compare towards other artists in JYPE but if you compare got7 to 2PM or WG they actually have same pattern probably even better “If your not good public figures/did unforgivable mistake the company kick you out” What’s the wrong things about this? Which part is wrong about this ? It’s more concerning if you find they deserved to get same spotlight and love from fans same as like them who genuinely good person if your a parents will you let your kids idolize idol who’ve bad influence for your kids as public figure it’s also your responsibility to take care your own behavior on public bcs it’s the path that you choose

The reason is ppl don't even know the Journey of Skz. I think the surprise to many is not how a company doesn't give enough creative freedom to their artist bcoz it's basically every other company when the truth comes out. For instance Jessi & Psy. The interesting thing is why such creative freedom given to Skz. Skz was an experiment to Jype which was expected to not do well. They threw some 20-17 yrs old in this competitive world of kpop where time is so important. Imagine the pressure on their shoulders. Other idols get songs produced by bunch of well-known producers in the industry. Yes Skz also work with talented ppl bts but They didn't have to suffer so much. While the media calls them "Big 3 failures" & kpop stan call their songs "Noise music" just bcoz they can't understand different genre exist guess who's at the front row receiving hate? Skz has written 99% songs of their discography. Like any artist they experience creative blockage. 3racha've shared that there're times they felt like maybe they're doing sthg wrong; they're not good enough. They felt like they worked way harder & the result was not there. It was stays words telling them how their music is relatable, inspiring & comforting that kept them going. And skz's works has to be approved by the company as well. Their song gets rejected. It's just that they keep making more & their speed & quality has improved over the yrs. It took skz 1yr to win music show. That day Han & Seungmin couldn't stop crying at all even on the backstage. Hyunjin said their family would ask them when'll they get their 1st win & they'd say eventually they'll. During the survival show Chan barely slept. Idol life is already hard & 3racha were doing extra work which is more tough as it's creative process. If it wasn't for Skz's love for music & they worked hard & even promised to keep making music for Stays no matter what others say, I'd have burnt down that Jype building myself. But it's the nature of passion & dedication that make ppl improve. & total 3racha has made music for not just skz but other artist too. Soloist, boy grp, & recently for Niziu new single "Paradise". We'll only know it's favoritism once the JLoud boys debut without the self-producing concept. My only wish is that more girl group trainees gain an interest in self-producing! I actually became a Kpop fan through (G)I-dle, joined Stayville and currently looking into Ateez. All self-producers since day 1.

You really have to apply experience of knowing how corporates will ALWAYS word press-related statements. Add into that mix the reality of ego (not just JYP), his relative ownership and propriety of the company. And then Korean cultures currency for respect for elders and then aswell JVPs religious disposition. Put it all together and if you cross or mistakenly dont show sufficient respect for either JYP himself OR what he believes on multiple levels including his religion and or musical tastes, plus if you happen to excessively laugh at, for example, his attempts to remain modern, or at an older man dancing the latest choreography there may be trouble. It could be anything that Jinni might have either mistakenly done or shown to either JYP or a sernior or even being too smart or not smart enough and she might have bought herself an exit ticket. the problem of course with Jinni is that JYP is almost literally HOW she grew up, so at this point tossing her out actually screams of an indictment of their culture and not of her. They raised her. (And they probably should have taken care of her). Agencies also know this so to maintain appearances they will not be afraid to manufacture motives and reasons why they have basicallly discarded someone who falls out of favour. Its that incredibly shady line that they walk in their dealings and responsibilities with minors.

He appears to be extremely loyal to JYP as he was indoctrinated early into the company culture and was there for a long time. However I think what may sway him and the rest of the members is if anything threatens another member of SKZ . So watch how they handle the Hyunjin situation. I doubt he will allow another Woojin situation to happen, especially now he has really stepped into his leadership position not just in SKZ but at JYP, he has a bit more power. Chan was practically a boy still when that happened, he’s now a man with far more experience and influence. I'm baffled at how people call it 'favoritism' in the case b/w got7 and skz. Skz got their creative freedom because they earned it. Entertainment agencies just don't simply let teenagers produce music under the label right away, it's Skz that put in their artistry and contributed to a song that was somehow were well-received by fans and they continued to make good music. Since their music was well-received by the public and have proven their musical creativity, of course their company would understandably trust them. The management for Got7 may have been different in the past but people should understand that once you sign a contract, you are bound by it's conditions and it natural for a company who provides the RESOURCES, MONEY upfront to have their own discretion on what music goes out under that label. If you do not come to an agreement with the company or management, it's okay to leave as well. The best thing about JYPE is they do not disclose anything that could potentially ruin their former artists who leave their company.

These dating bans are stupid. You can have these artists who can be in their mid 20’s being told they can’t have a relationship. I really don’t know the reasoning for this idiotic ban.
@OleLeik
@OleLeik 8 месяцев назад
The dating ban is just for show, Legally speaking, no contract can violate your human rights and freedom of choice in this matter. Companies just say that idols have dating bans to reassure insecure fans and reduce the attention on idols. They can't really stop the idol from dating if they want to. If there is a dating ban, it's an informal one - Its unwise, and you should not do it, but if you do, you should keep it within your private life From a business perspective, keeping such activities under the radar benefits both the idols and company in ways that fans who romanticize them will see them as available and will keep continuing to support them. Hardcore fans tend to be somewhat delusional and taking their "relationship" with said idol(s) a bit too seriously and personal
@AnonyMous-lh3cm
@AnonyMous-lh3cm Год назад
I will also say I call bullshit on the artists “not being able to be creative” because let’s be real, these artists are NOT independent artists. They are let’s be real-contracted employees. They sign a contract and that doesn’t include Artistic Freedom. Let’s also be real, just because you can lip sync to a track and do choreography, a composer and producer it does not make. Just because you’re a popular idol who can sing a song someone else wrote and perform a dance routine someone else choreographed doesn’t mean you can write music that SELLS. At the end of the day it’s a business and they’re in it for money.

Well, look at it this way. JYPE invests so much money into their talent (as mentioned in the video). It's not just training, dorms, and the usual things, but mental healthcare, a nutritious cafe, and so on. So with that much money on the line, JYPE wants their artist to make hits to return that investment. Since JYP is a proven hit maker, he's hands on. His style has been working for a long time, so he's got a sense on what the public want to hear and see. Now he's not spot-on 100% of the time, but his record of producing winning hits is far more than his failures. So yeah, as an artist you want to explore and do other things, but for a business I can understand why JYPE is reluctant to allow this. NOW, that's not to say that the artist under his label aren't capable of producing hits if given the chance, but you can see the companies POV. There also might be an aspect of him being a control freak for personal reason (in that it's his personality). BUT I have to think that if, say, Soyeon of ( )I-DLE wanted to collab with a JYP artist, he'd be smart enough to let her do her thing because she's proven that she doesn't write flops. If any of the JYPE artist produced a banger of a b-track and consistently did so, if he had any kind of logic, he would allow more creative control. It's less work on him and his team and allows his artist to stretch out a bit. But since they don't create huge B-tracks, then it's a risk. We know that multiple members under JYPE have written popular b-tracks, but they're popular within their own fandom, NOT outside of it. Let's say Chaeyoung's "Basics" blew up, you know he'd market the hell out of that. I mean, the company actively encourages ship-culture between her and Mina, so should Chaeyoung make a buzz as a songwriter you know he'd jump on that. That's just more money. At least you'd think so. I don't know why I write these novel sized comments to these videos....

ALL KPOP Companies have artists that don't renew their contracts. If anything, JYP goes to great lengths to try to re-sign their artists. Unfortunately, children can be easily influenced into thinking that grass is greener, or that they can do better with another agency. That is RARELY the case that these former JYP artists ever find a better deal anywhere else. Even though some may go on to have solo careers, they rarely attain the level of popularity and prominence that they enjoyed while a JYP artist. But, do continue to spread BS and lies about THE BEST KPOP AGENCY. We will wait ...

JYPE is still the top company that genuinely cares for their idols welfare they may be strict on their rules and contracts but thats the thing an artist must cross to be famous JYPE would even pud to an extent to hire professionals to deal with artist stress and health issues, food and etc. just to be able to provide the best for their talents JYP him self even gave up his CEO position since he wanted to focus more in his personal music career so he cant do both without jeopardizing one so he chose the latter. even TWICE would say they own 90% of their time saying that they over work their artist is the wrong statement knowing that the time that the artist would have to work are solely in their own decision just like how TWICE and other groups are doing they decide what projects they would like to take and how much in a day would they want to spend on working so saying that JYPE is overworking such a false statement JYP already explained that many times already that JYPE has no say on what their talents would take with promotions and solo projects all the revenues will go to personal managers and talents as well their only role is to promote them in terms of music. thats the very reason why TWICE and their members get to venture out of their music career in terms of brand endorsements etc. and JYP is very keen on taking only those he see with real talent and great personality thats one reason why theres less bullying and suicidal issue in JYPE with that i think JYPE is still the best KPOP company in many years to come.

@@lonelust where in the video did she say she’s still good friends with JYP? (sorry if that sounds aggressive) She mostly talked about Sunmi and the lack of creative decisions. And yes, Hyunjin was proven innocent. He had teachers and other fellow students come out and say he wasn’t a bully, him and the guy were just harsh towards each other. After both guys apologized to _each other_ the guy who said Hyunjin was a bully came out and said that all was good as well as that he’ll even be _supporting_ Hyunjin. During his hiatus, he even did community service as reflection although both parties were harsh to one another. The girl who said that he was rude to her lied because he went to an all-boys school as a kid. Please forgive me if I show a lack of understanding here, I am an artist signed to an indie label (independent) no I don't have a huge fan base, or millions of record sales but in my own little world I have the freedom to produce any thing I want, it is then up to the label if they think it is good enough to be released or not. With K-Pop it seems that predominantly the groups are manufactured or comprised of a group that were collectively chosen in a talent show, so if for example JYP brings that group together and moulds them into the group that the company wants, then to me there must be things in place to cater for this, such as the contract and the terms set out in them. If this covers certain lifestyle aspects such as dating, limiting what one can do in their personal lives and the persona that is shown, then correctly or even morally, the artist/s signed the contracts they are bound to them for the length of the contract. It seems in some cases that once some groups gain a bit of traction, that if the company again JYP as an example decide to take that 'act' in a different direction then providing that they aren't breaching their own contractual terms there then isn't much anyone can really do. It strikes me somewhat oddly that there would be artistic direction complaints from the groups members given that if it wasn't for the company wanting a new group and the potential hopefuls entering and ultimately winning they wouldn't have had the chance at being idols in the first place, so to then complain about some things seems a little egotistical. Maybe, I am being a little harsh and not fully understanding but like in the UK where we had pop idol etc, where was an idea, a look and a persona that was wanted ultimately after a time the groups broke up and have said similar things like what happens in K-Pop. I just feel that if you are given an opportunity to enter and then win a show that makes you an idol, albeit as an individual or as part of a group and you then sign a contract, that is a choice you make, I suppose it is only choice you can make, if you turn it down then you may never get the opportunity again but if you say yes and sign on the dotted line then you have committed and agreed to everything for however long the contract is for. Maybe someone in a more knowledgeable position can explain this a bit more :) again, I am not trying to say that as an artist you shouldn't have some freedom of movement, but what you sign and agree to will ultimately be what you have agreed to do.
