I love that the incubation period is so important to them but they never consider that maybe the guy with all the rabies symptoms who works with bats all day had a previous encounter with a bat.

I think the title is a typo-- it was meant to be called "The Coat People" and to really just focus in on who is wearing what coats, swapping coats, stuff like that

can't help but feel like "The Batshit Crazy People" might have been a better title

The part where you green screen'd yourself into the movie while dressed as the doctor was my favourite. So funny with that stupid haircut.

Funny you should mention what a great wife our co star had in this movie. Strangely, Moss and McAndrew got married in real life after doing this movie. A rare successful marriage in Hollywood (1968 - 2017, his death). I also really liked him on Hogan's Heroes. He was in the pilot episode and also showed up across the show over the years.

"Anyway, Charlie Brown is really concerned about the bite..." YES! That's exactly what I was thinking, when I saw her sweater!

For a scientist studying bats, this guy treats those poor cute bats really terribly.

Looking at the title I really thought this was a 2021 Netflix adaptation of Batman.

I got suckered into seeing this movie twice. First it was called The Bat People, then about a year later it was called It Lives By Night, with a completely different poster.

There’s one movie from the ‘60s that actually features *multiple* bat people in it. It’s called “Latitude Zero”. And you know what else? The movie is GOOD.

I wish Mark would make more of his "guest appearances" in his reviews. That incompetent doctor in this one was comedy gold.

The philosophical implications of the movie are pretty deep. If the main character hears the bat sounds before the bite, he was destined to become a bat person. This raises the question of humanity's inevitable decline into the nature of the bat people. He couldn’t avoid his own decline. Ignoring the problem, medicine, and love couldn’t keep him from descending into a murderous being. The fate of humankind is to be bat people… Or it was just terrible writing. Love the videos. Allows great.

So the leading gent and lady were married a few years before making this and they were married until he died only about 4 years ago. Probably the most charming part of this movie. She’ll be 80 next year.

In all fairness, the MSTies did give it a fair go. When they're about to poke him with the rabies shot in the movie, Murphy says 'aw yeah, this one's gonna hurt like hell' when you see the size of the needle. That line did crack me up pretty decent

The best bat creature makeup and costume ever made I think is from Bram Stokers Dracula. Gary Oldman carried that film so well.

It's like The Shining, where Jack is already nutty before he goes to the hotel. The bat bite is just the trigger. That's why Kathy kicks it away, and Dr. Groovy doesn't care about treating him. It's a MacGuffin.

This was actually on TV here recently, I got about 30 minutes into it and that was more than enough for me. Props to you for making it through it!

Apparently, this was the first movie that Stan Winston worked on. Guess we all get our start somewhere.

My personal history with this movie is that when I was a kid(like ten or younger) I tuned in on this film right around the time the bats started hitting the windshield. I immediately thought this was the scariest movie ever since we could just be driving in our car and get attacked by bats, and I knew it would only be a matter of time before they would be able to break the windows

Mark has always just made me laugh. And im glad with him finally uploading more than once a decade he still has it.

This is like one of those things you'd write with your buddy aged 14 both thinking it was awesome. Never in a million years knowing it would ever get made into an actual movie.

18:00 minutes in: “Johnny finds a barn with a drunk in there and the scene goes on for a very long time”. When you get stuck with a drunk and you’re sober time does indeed slow down and things go on for a very, very long time. I feel sorry for Johnny.

Are we not going to talk about how the scariest part of the movie is that Johnny is a dead ringer for Ted Bundy?!

This has got to be the most infuriating ending since "Zaat!"

"Am I ever going to be able to grip a ski pole again?!" I love this, and it reminds me of my oldest son. He can be quite emotional and dramatic at times, and when he was like 5 or 6 he got a small cut on his finger and when my wife was putting him to bed he started throwing a fit about it. "How can I lay down with a hurt finger?!" lol!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Marks videos, they are so good! My favorite parts in all his vids are when he inserts himself into the movies, I died when he became the doctor in this one. Marks channel really is the most underrated on RU-vid, he should have all the views!

I remember when I saw this, it felt every scene was just the couple in various places talking about his condition... Or him having his "bat-seizures".. In various places. Felt like I was going insane watching this.

@1:30 I can relate to that. One of my ex-girlfriends had a similar sleep disorder. She moved in the bed and moaned and called my name and even screamed. Very annoying. Seriously, I couldn't fall asleep.

The thing you don't understand is that, yes; in the 1970s, stopping in the desert for a picnic, and some cactus fruit, then exploring a cave was part of a great honeymoon, but the rest of the movie is the REST of the honeymoon! We did a lot of weird drugs back then. I think I had this same experience. Or maybe it was just this movie. I don't really know. I feel like hanging upside down in a cave and sleeping.

What would make for amazing viewing is if you could interview some of the directors/actors/costume designers etc of these movies

Watching your review I imagined John Cassavetes as John, Edwige Fenech as Kathy, Seymour Cassel as Bandage Doc, Peter Falk as Sergeant and Gena Rowlands as Nurse to make it more interesting.

I once got a ring stuck on my finger and waited a while before getting medical attention and it was terrifying it was all black and freaking me out. There was a doctor who was using a ring cutter on it that was taking forever because it wasn't gold or something soft it was obsidian or something. Anyway a maintanence guy broken it off using a set of plyers in .05 seconds and my life went on like normal. But getting a ring on that doesn't fit is so much easier than getting it off. Trust me

To be honest, I did not have high expectations for a movie called The Bat People.

Love The Fly reference! Also, I feel that the idea of this movie was to capitalize on the 70s horror tropes on a shoestring budget, but lost sight on anything sensenible for the sake of a cheap scare. I only wish this was inspiration for Nicholas Cage's Magnum opus Vampires' Kiss.

This movie reminded me that in my residency, I had a rotation at a local Public Health Dept, answering calls from the public. One person called to say they were feeding a stray cat and giving it medicine after it was bitten/scratched by another, unseen animal,….then the cat bit her and ran off. There were no rabies cases in our county, but one right on our border in the neighboring county. She was totally needle phobic (although the “shots in the stomach” for rabies is nonsense….if a medication is okay with stomach acid, it would be a pill or drinkable) and hoping I could some way to convince her she shouldn’t get the rabies shot, but it was just 45 minutes of “well, it’s unlikely, but there is still a chance because…”.

It's so funny when you were beginning to talk about how no reason was given as to why being bit by this bat caused a transformation. I instantly thought of Spiderman, then you mentioned it XD. That was pretty great lol. Also The Fly film, I was thinking of that during the video. That this film reminded me of it. I kinda feel bad for putting The Fly and this film in the same thought. Bat people does not deserve to be in the same universe.

So happy I found this channel. That Star Wars Christmas Special episode is hilarious.... "I HATE IT!!!"

Maybe they were going for a wolfman approach to it and thought that only seeing him as a batperson at the end would up the suspense? The shot of his hand and then head peaking around the cavern wall just made me think of that. This movie was pretty damn rough! Maybe they ran out of money for new locations so they just went back and forth between the hotel room and the cave lol. The double scene of the trailer park girl was so damn weird. Can't wait for Old though!

i have an idea for a remake! So that guy gets bitten by a bat. And then the Sheriff kills his wife. So he goes the Gotham and becames a billionaire and creates a bat like suit with a belt of some kind, with things in it. Then makes a car that looks a a bat and hires a butler named Alfred. He then wants revenge for the death of his wife and fights crime, and a clown or joker of some sort. I would definitely watch that movie and read in a comic book form!

I've seen this movie and it's horrible. It's even horrible at being horrible, it's just that horrible. So convince me why I'm wrong and that it is in fact terrible. Nice HD transfer though, waste of processing power to be honest.

I think that this is a deep, extended metaphor about the dangers of marriage and the call of freedom that comes with bachelorhood. Cathy is the real villain here.
