Now explain to me why every mom needs one for shopping, it makes no sense, also SUVs are far more dangerous towards people not in cars, you know, cyclists, civilians and others. It also makes no sense to make cars heavier and more powerful, this doesn't save the enviroment in any way (EVs don't either). I was expecting a video with arguments for SUVs, not someone just saying: "Wow, SUVs look cool, hatred not justified"
Not everyone needs an SUV. But that can be said for anything. No one needs a big home with a garden, as they can very well get by with a commie-block apartment. Not everyone needs to travel, as 15 minute cities can give you whatever you want within a short radius. But we live in a capitalist society, we can buy whatever we want any go wherever we want within reason. If you have the money, why shouldn’t you be able to own an SUV/truck? We as humans also like to show off, explore, buy cars and clothes that suit our personality. Some people have the lifestyle, personality that SUVs and trucks match. Hence why they buy them. Hence why people buy them. Also, this whole schtick about them being dangerous is stupid. Nothing about life is inherently safe, there is always risk no matter what you do. SUVs/trucks on our roads make no difference to public safety. You do realise how awful it would be to live in a Nanny-state right? And why does everything need to be environmentally conscious? There are bigger issues than cars for our environment. Why not focus on cargo ships, which produce more co2 than some countries? Why not focus on fast fashion? Why not focus on countries like China which have little to no pollution standards? Cars, trucks, SUVS are here to stay, whether we like it or not. If the market demands it, then the businesses will supply it.
@@HowToSpec suv's are meant for special utility as the name implies. they are heavy and when you add up that tesla model X can accelerate in less then 3s to 60 when it weighs 2500kg you can do serious damage in no time kill a pedestrian someone in a fiat 500 has no chance .
@@paw549 Oh, also SUV doesn't stand for "special utility vehicle." It actually stands for "Sports Utility Vehicle." I'd reccomend using google before you make such an easily falsifiable claim lmao
The station wagon is the most honest car. You can get them in 4wd and jacked up if you want to. An SUV will never drive as well or be as practical as the wagon.
I agree. But SUVs like the OG defender and any generation of the Toyota Land Cruiser popular for a reason. They work well in the terrain they’re suited for, and look cool.
@@HowToSpec those are propper SUV and have a specific purpose. For the average SUV on the market, they are just big cars on the outside and small on the inside. I've driven 100k SUV and it drives worse than a 40k wagon. Too heavy on the road, boddy roll, harder braking, and tyres to fat for off roading. Just show offs and marketing machines, it's all they are.
@@wisecountryman49 yep, I 100% agree. The wide majority of SUVs are for the hollow and stupid. But my main point of this video is that whilst some are a waste of money, there are people who have the lifestyles and/or personality which match a lifted truck or an SUV-regardless of their faults. The mk1 lotus Elise is a very ugly and flawed car. All alfa Romeo’s are actually quite sh1t, but we love them for their faults as it’s what makes them human. I just find it odd we don’t apply this logic to SUVs. Crossovers are the exception however, they’re the biggest waste of money. They’re just overpriced hatchbacks on stilts that are no more practical than the hatchback they’re based on. Also what’s your favourite estate? Mines the Volvo 850R.
Trucks and SUV's have there place in for example rural area's. But a crossover like a Audi Q2 is smaller inside, uses more fuel, is more dangerous to pedestrians, and is slower then a Audi A3. You are just stupid to buy the Q2 instead of a A3. You are buying a worse car.
Yea crossovers are a marketing scam for the dull and stupid. They’re no bigger than their hatchback equivalent, yet are more inefficient, more expensive and don’t look anywhere near as good. But trucks and proper SUVs make perfect sense for some people. Thanks for watching!
To summarize, you do not need a SUV and just want one as a status symbol and now try to justify your purchase. Truth of the matter is, 99% of people do not need a big truck or SUV and would honestly be better of with a small hatchback or station wagon. I understand that there are people who do need a big truck or SUV for work, yet that is a small minority. Due to all this, most SUVs are not even build to be vehicles you could use for work, but instead are build to be unnecessary status symbols. These vehicles do deserve the hate they receive.
What’s wrong with using a car for a status symbol? That in itself is a purpose. Humans have a desire to show off, it’s perfectly natural. If you don’t have this desire, I’d recommend getting your testosterone levels checked (if you’re a guy)
@@HowToSpec As a kid, I also thought SUVs were cool, though as I grew up I saw how stupid they are. Remember, humility is also a virtue. The thing is, engineering is about making compromises. You can never have everything and have to choose what you want. Making a car good at one thing makes it worse in everything else. Lets take the Urus from the thumbnail as an example. By building a car to be a status symbol, you make it worse at everything what a car should do. The high center of gravity ruins the handling, yet the track focused suspension does not allow you to go offroad. It may have a powerfull engine, but it is heavy and has quite a lot of aerodynamic drag as a result of it's size, completly negating all the advantages a big engine brings with it, but keeping the disadvantages, that being terrible fuel economy and expensive maintanance. As a result, your status symbol is just that, but not a good car. In other words, SUVs do deserve the hate.
I like SUVs because they are stupid. I simply don't care if they're a bad car, as their flaws make them intresting and personified. We use this logic for Alfa Romeos and pretty much all else italian, so why not apply it to SUVs?
@@HowToSpec Mostly for pedestrian safety imo. Because now its putting everyone elses life in danger. Also that comment about dominating the road will soon go away if the massive north american suv trend continues as you wont be the biggest car on the road anymore, youll just be the average
@@nerfingdino5628 I’m British, everyone here pretty much drives small hatchbacks and estates. There will always be the masculine appeal for large trucks and SUVS, we as humans want to have a degree of superiority to someone else. Hence why big cars will always be popular no matter what, and they’ll only get bigger
I hate to see crossover SUVs are killing off estates, MPVs etc. The real SUVs are the boxy shapes and equipped with off-road capability. People are better off with an estate car instead of a wannabe crossover that most come with FWD, does not go off-road and only for show, if they are using it mostly in the city/suburb or for the school run. Both an estate car and MPV are more useful for versatility and space.
Im a car guy and the reason I hate SUVs is because they’re so damn popular they’ve ended up destroying what’s left of the sports car. Land Rovers and Toyota Land Cruisers have always been cool cars, because people that own them usually need them. But pretty much any other SUV makes no sense. Especially in the UK, it gets frustrating when half the cars on the road is an SUV, and I guarantee you that 9/10 times there’s only 1 person in that car. And I guarantee you that 99/100 times, that SUV has never been fully utilized. People are so lazy these days they just go for a car that’s easy to get into and easy to drive comfortably, even if it means getting bad fuel economy. You can thank the death of the sports car and manual transmissions because of people being too lazy and picking SUVs instead. Now no one buys sports cars anymore because they either aren’t sold anymore (MR2, Celica, Integra, S2000, Prelude, Eclipse, 3000GT, LanEvo, Silvia, RX7/RX8, 205GTI) and the biggest problem is, all of those sports cars mentioned were affordable for the common people. The only “affordable” sports car you have now with a manual transmission, is the mazda Mx5 and the Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ, and we all know they are not long for this world.
Example: KIA EV9 Heavy, (2.8 Tonnes) Electric Shape: Brick Crash: Opponing car dies It's basically a small bulldozer for one (1) person to move about in. Takes up more space than 2 mitsubishi Colts. In other words, SUVs are clumsy
Every review on that car praises it. You're the one who's ignorant, as you are blinded by your sheer hatred for personal freedom over what we can buy. Human life is all about excess, and seeing just how great it can be. I don't have the time to care about if my car choice offends a commie-enviromentalist.
I do hate SUVs and Trucks but not for those reasons. It's because most are ugly, gigantic, heavy and just a scam. Now real suvs that can accually offroad and are being used for that are a different story, same goes for trucks. And yes I've sat in one it feels like it looks, fat, heavy, big, no feedback from the steering and to top it off a automatic transmission that is as boring as the "environmentalists" who hate SUVs just because they pollute more then smaller cars and want to ban all personal transport beginning with ice cars. Personally I don't understand why someone would buy such a suv. Lighter, lower, smaller cars are much more fun and engaging to drive. Especially if it's a manual and a little older car that let's you feel and hear some character while driving. but I can't influence what others like so buy what you want :)
I get your point but it's unfair to judge an SUV/truck on the same standards as you would an enthusiast's sports car. Yes, they're driven by slushmatic transmissions, yes they have no steering feel but that's not what they're for. SUVs IMO are best bought along side a fun little sports car, as then you get the best of both worlds. But as you said, it must be a proper SUV and non of this part-time, FWD-biased AWD systems found in the majority of fake SUVs. Thanks for watching!
Sort of is, sort of isn’t. I like SUVs and trucks but I’ve purposely downplayed the cons of SUVS/trucks to make communists and environmentalists angry, which boosts video engagement and helps this channel grow. I’m glad someone has the common sense to notice that.
Not cringe. I just believe there should be an option for everyone, whether i agree with their choice or not. Small vans work, but aren't visually appealing nor intresting. Hence why people buy Land rover defenders instead.
@@RoflMaiWaffel who cares if they need it or not? We fortunately don’t live under leftie communism, just yet anyway. So people are entitled to buy whatever car they want, and they should.
You said it yourself. It's about the supposed superiority they feel. There are people who need suvs, but explain to me why (rationnaly cause humans always want to flex on the other to get a feeling of superiority) do you need it living 5 minutes away from work. A lot of the hate comes from the fact that these overpriced things(cheaper to make yet more expensive to the consumer) just need to be shoved down our throats. You want to make an suv go ahead but why are you removing every single car that isn't one. When my dad wanted to change his car I showed him the v60 and other saloons yet only suvs are on all dealerships even if we have euro spec cars. I shit you not, the onyl cars you can tets drive are suvs. You want an A4? Well actually there's the q3.
Hot take: I like small crossovers that just a lifted car, thus making more capable for rough roads than normal car but not tall enough to compromised its handling. Also they tend to be roomier for passengers. Examples including CX-3, CX-30, Crosstrek etc. What I hate is unibody SUV: it is not as resillient as traditional SUV and too tall for classified as normal car. Also I disliked the traditional SUV that never offroading. I'd rather owned van, normal car or lifted car crossovers for that purposes.
i think suvs rn are some kind of trend, some are good some arent but the real hate should go to the engines cuz now they are just projected to break after warranty or after each 100k km, also if its electric engine that means the battery is losing lifespan and it may malfunction
Yea I somewhat agree, crossover/small SUVs are definitely a trend. However, full size SUVs and trucks are just going to get more and more popular Totally agree about the engines, cars just seem to get progressively worse concerning reliability and build quality. New models from Mercedes feel like a Vauxhall they’re so bad! Thanks for watching!
The real problem is that suv popularity is causing car makers to stop making everything else. Audi just discontinued the A5, Mercedes drops the cle instead of a c and e class coupe and I employ you to look at any French car makers line up. I don’t care that other ppl want them, I understand the appeal, but there’s increasingly less choice for everyone else
Haven't Watched the vid but i agree ¨SUV's are cool¨ and there's no denying it but some brands rush it. (and personally i am not a big fan of SUV's but there are a few i like)
a crossover is shit, buy a compact for cheaper as practical and more fuel efficient. 95% of the SUV are goodlooking shit boxes, buy a sedan or a real 4x4 (pajero for example or G-klass), only sub category that could be excused is the luxury segment escalade V for example and pick-up trucks, what's wrong they are function over form, hell yeah !
In this comment section are people with way better points than me, but my issue with SUVs is that car manufacturers killed off their most beloved cars and have barely anything else in their lineup. They all look the same and to some people (like me) they just look boring as hell. It's a taste thing. Your Video would make way more sense if it was posted 15 years ago... But I get the sarcasm, don't worry 😃
I totally agree, Crossovers are a scam, I have seen many that have less space than regular Sedans/Hatchbacks I wouldn't buy a Crossover over a Sedan/Hatch. But even then Crossovers are not bad at all, I have driven many and they are mostly fine :) Also, I do believe SUVs have their place in the world, sure, I would prefer to have smaller and lighter cars that would pollute less, but SUVs are good enough and dynamic enough for our every day needs :) I, for one, would really like a Lamborghini Urus since I love Lambos and the Urus IS a Lambo daily driver. So yeah :)
Eh, the only coupe suv I like is the RSQ8. They just don't make any sense, an SUV should be all about practicality first. However, with coupe suvs you have dreadful rear head room compared to your traditional suv. They may look decent but they're too flawed in their design.
I just think they’re plain ugly, and not sporty in the slightest, I thing the rounded blehh looks like a trash bag that’s been sitting for so long that it’s leaned over shape is ugly, people choose them over sedans because their caveman brain says “bigger guud” which has caused the sedan market to die slowly. Also the reason I like hot hatches that are largely the same shape is because they’re little cars powered by little turbo engines. SUVs now are big massive 7k lbs+ vehicles that are slowly lugged down the road sometimes powered by 3 cylinder turbo engines. Just plain stupid and unreliable.
