Two days to get one, 1. spend so much on overpriced jewelry with the implicit promise that you will keep doing so, that the AD has no choice but to allocate you one. Or 2. in conjunction with the Authorised dealer, take the watches, sell in grey market, and remit the AD's cut back to him (this is how the majority of new Rolex's are sold).

Pushing out costomers, being rude and simply insulting costomers is a proven strategy used by many established brands to push potential costomers to put thier hands into thier pockets to pull out the Plastic Card and throw it on the sales persons face, simply go over board and buy the products. The ones who walk out are ones who dared to enter the store but really can't effort to buy.. try it next time.. walk into the Rolex store or LV or PRADA etc ..

Didn’t happen like that at the Rolex AD I went to (Brisbane, Australia). Pleasant service, good advice on model availability and wait lists and a short (couple of months) wait for a desirable model. No discount but no premium either and I didn’t have to buy anything else.

Rolex are not well made. They are riddled with imperfections. Grand Seiko on the other hand is unblemished to an extreme degree ,that is imperceptible even with macro cameras !

They have a brand image power that attract a lot of customers that don't have an interest in horology as well. They don't do complications and extensive movement finish for display back like JLC... But there calibers are simple, very well designed, engineered and produced, that is a fact. The only thing you can get angry at with Rolex is there watch are 30 % more expensive than they sould and unavailable to non listed customers.

Ok it is easy to sell watches when there is a waiting list, you basically just have to pick your phone up a call next customer. Rolex seems happy with that otherwise they could sell these watches online by themselves and double profits. Moreover I'm pretty sure Rolex tell them the target retail price. AD are pushing to sell Rolex because it attracts customers, so they have to follow Rolex requests and standards

@Ken Meyer-Landrut The most advanced movement is the spring drive by Seiko. The second hand moves smoother than any mechanical watch ,accuracy is as good as any quartz watch and it can never be counterfeited , because of obvious complications.

I purchase high end replica with clone movements for myself. And the Genuine / authentic I keep in a vault / bank with box papers and receipts. I suggest you do the same. I own a Seiko diver from 1990 or so and after I stopped diving I threw it in a box for a dozen years and never wore it. I sort of discovered it one day and had it serviced and I bought a rubber strap and it still keeps perfect time and still looks great. Stealing a line its takes a licking and keeps on ticking

I would have never touched the brand if it werent for replicas, actually. I hated the sort of masculine sports watch on a bracelet, until I tried one and saw how comfortable, smooth, supremely tight and well finished, and accurate they were, not to mention beautiful. I would have never been anywhere near a dealer a few years ago and now am considering going for a datejust.

Also the hour hand tip isn't a tip, the red on the bezel is too dark, the "prints" of the numbers on the bezel also look very cheap and not very clean on the fake. Also I think theblack of the dial on the fake is not dark and glossy enough, but that could also just be the lighting.

I think this would be an easy test; having handled both I found the "feel" to be a significant differentiator - the way the bezel moves and sounds, the smoothness of the glidelock, how the bracelet and bezel finishing feels to the touch. Worlds apart between a rep and a genuine.

I, too, misread "accurate" to mean the time, not the quality of the manufacturing.

There's a lot more in a real one. Manual finish so the Watch is flawless. Gold hands and indexes. R&D for the movement (architecture, materials and control). High wages for the workers and taxes for Swiss conferderation. And the rest is marketing, witch I agree is a too expansive part.

Lol, that's a pretty good point to be honest. In the past, when I purchased my Rolexes, I had the owner sent it to a local Rolex AD for authorization. Costed me an extra $120 but it was worth it i think.

Get other brands that dont have fakes, they may have better quality yet bigger discount discounts than Rolex! For example a .lange can be had for similar prices to Rolex after the discounts. So in truth, people brought themselves the problem of buying overinflated watches and then drive themselves crazy again about why knock offs are indifferentiable.

I completely agree with you sir. Rolex as a company need to deal with the whole grey market problem. AD's are selling to grey market dealers who jack up the price. Shows how little Rolex cares about their consumer. You know when apple release a new iphone they limit it to like 1 or 2 per customer. It's to prevent someone from buying up all the stock and charging people an arm an a leg for the product on the grey market. I have no problem with people buying fake Rolex even if they have the money to buy the real thing. The only way I would ever buy a rolex is if I can get them at retail.

Instead of buying replacement parts for your car, you could just download CAD models and machine them yourself. Someday, making your own custom rolex-quality watches from scratch could be a hobby, where people trade designs and part files online and then make something unique. Maybe you're not interested in that sort of thing, but for me it's an exciting prospect. We're already seeing it happen with 3d printing; metalworking could be next.

@barchenko Only if you're a snob, to most people a good watch is a watch that keeps good time and lasts for years, and looks good, requires little or no maintenance and is affordable. £8K is more than i could afford for a car and even then i would have to put myself in hock for 5 yrs, so why would i do that for a watch? I could buy a Steinhart for less than a grand which would do all the above, or i could pay even less for a quality clone with exactly the same movement as the Steinhart and even the experts would have difficulty telling the difference without an actual Rolex for comparison. I have a friend who has a genuine Rolex and the number of people who think its a clone gets him down,They just cant comprehend that he spent over 30 grand ON A WATCH! Personally i would feel uncomfortable wearing the Rolex brand if I knew that it wasn't a Rolex, BUT i would happily wear the same watch if it was unbranded, at the same time I wouldn't touch a watch branded as RONEX or ROLDEX, so I suppose i must be a bit of a snob too.

Oh yes of course but the red paint is really an hassle to create. I have the SN015G from Sanmartin which is an amazing watch. Very very similar to the PEPSI GMT II. And keeps +2 second a day, while the Rolex takes +4
