Here’s Why Watch Experts Like Nico Leonard HATE Hublot (and MVMT) 

The longest Hublot commercial ever! Using funny walrus 'name and a misspelled word as points... "Dislike" and "don't recommend this channel "for sure,sanitized comment is expected.

A friend has a MVMT watch (and still wears it). When he showed it to me, I saw something flying around in the watch and I got confused for a second - until he held his wrist still for a moment and I realized IT WAS THE HOUR MARKERS! Several (at least 4 or 5) of them had fallen off and he was like "Oh yeah, it's been like that for a few months now. They must have fallen off when I accidentally knocked the watch against the table or something". I swear I am not a watch snob but I haven't brought the topic up with him ever again.

Super happy for you. My first adult watch was Michael Kors. I cringe now. But, it has a sentimental value, so I still wear it. I hope you purchase something you love and keep for years to come!

@@jk25653 Sentimental value is super important, too. I have an Emporio Armani I got as a gift for my highschool graduation for my parents. I wore it almost daily for over 10 years and I cherish it to this day.

God yes, I totally agree. Misaligned screws on a watch that expensive would drive me nuts. I've just seen a Tsar Bomba watch (never heard of the brand before) on Amazon for £189, it's a kind of ripoff/homage to the Hublot case design/shape, and it has all the screws aligned. If they can do it for under £200, why can't Hublot on a watch for £10k plus?

I believe they are not allowed to align them because that's a Royal Oak trademark/patent.

EXACTLY. The disingenuity is the problem. If they were honest and fairly priced then I would consider them okay.

From the name, the logo and the advertising, they're clearly a brand/marketing lead company who are doing exactly what you say. Using marketing and influencers and the California vibe to trick people into thinking it's cool to own a MVMT, but brand recognition and marketing is why people love the mediocre stuff that Disney make and why people buy iPhones, so you can't really criticise them for that.

I think the hate of it comes from the fact that those watches are crap. That’s all

The problem is that there are actually cheap brands that offers a higher quality than movrment.

I like the Hublot classic fusion 3 hand. Good looking watch but not for almost $8000 USD. At that price point there are so many nice watches better brand names.

These watches can be bought for less than $2 from China.

There are sub-150€/$ proper brand Swiss-made watches available, so paying $150 for MVMTs is ridiculous. I've bought excellent Wenger watches for my nieces and nephews which I've got on discount for even under €100 and list price under €150 (same in dollars). Wenger are reliable Swiss-made watches from the Victorinox-owned original Swiss army knife brand, made with really good quality control, worldwide 3 year warranty, service centres worldwide. You can even get automatic models from them for under $500. Casios and Seikos can be had for well under €100. I see no point in buying those Ali Baba Chinese fake marketing company watches...they're not good quality and on top of that they're not cheap! Especially if they have to be thrown in the trash after a few months.

But those videos of celebrity DJs, skaters and beautiful people in Hawaii...how could you not want to be down?!?!?! (Note: I'm being intentionally sarcastic to reflect the cynicism some of us experience during this period known as late-stage capitalism. No need to break it down further.)

Then again Seiko has so poor Quality Control these days I would steer clear of them, at least the old seiko5 line up. It is almost like if you are lucky you get a good one.

@@karlsenula9495 Im talking about the skeletonized Big Bang and Fusion watches. Zenith Defy is similar but with a real movement from a real watch maker. If someone wants something like those stupid Ferrari engine things I don’t know what to tell them other than they have more money than sense.

Zenith and it’s movements are one of the most underrated stuff in luxury watch segment. I prefer chronomaster to Daytona . Defy collection is a great too.

I can appreciate them both separately, but I see your point. I love the Defy 21. Generally, I like chronographs. 8 out of my 10 mechanical watches are chronographs. And I agree, the Defy 21 is in a league of it’s own. I hope to have one someday. I came so close a couple of times. Funny enough the Hublot that I’m currently interested in basically has an El Primero movement :)

Yep. They just have a bit more clever marketing. Infuriates me when I see people wearing Daniel Wellingtons, because it's just a complete waste of money. For the price of 1 (one) Daniel Wellington watch you can buy: Anywhere between 6 and 10 Casios in various styles to suit all purposes and fashions, or Maybe 2 Orient watches, with in house automatic calibres and sapphire crystals. Thinking maybe a Kamasu and a Bambino, or 1 relatively high quality Swiss quartz watch such as the OG Tissot PRX.

Nearly all fashion and instagram watches are outsourced blanks from China 3-15 bucks a piece with zero original design. They just slap their brand on a dial and sell it for 1000%+. Most of fashion brands even buy same blanks with little to no modifications. If you look at aliexpress, you can often find exact copies with Chinese brand on a dial. And quality control ends at Chinese factory where they make 100 if not 1000 watches a day and take market by quantity, not quality. You can probably ask to replace your broken fashion watch 10 times for free and still be ripped off. At this point you'll be technically paying much less for a Rolex on a grey market. Kinda legal scam if you ask me.

luxury is relative, some people like a hand crafted well made watch, while others like a brand and a fashion statement. While MVMT and Hublot are not my style i dont really hate them, and i dont really think that either interpretation of luxury is wrong.

And during certain sales, it's actually cheapest way to get an NH35. Cheaper even than buying the movement itself.

Fossil watches were also my first introduction into the world of watch collecting. They are great watches for the price. Internally they are generally very simple and low cost which isn't a bad thing since they still get the job done. For lack of a better comparison they are like the AK-47 of watches. Simple reliable mechanism, low cost materials, easy to produce in high quantities, minimal maintenance required, and used by people all over the world. It wouldn't make sense for even the most die hard gun collector to say that an AK is a "bad" gun just like Fossil watches are not "bad" watches. They're simply accessible and reliable tools. But because of this they aren't investments and don't cater to those who want high quality precision components. There's no rarity to them or high level craftsmanship required in their production. Just the other day I almost purchased an unused mint condition Fossil watch from the 90's that I had as a kid and it sold for a whopping $40+shipping. It had the original box, all the papers, protective plastic still on it, and still sold for less than it did 30 years ago. In hind sight whoever was selling that watch got absolutely nothing out of storing it and protecting it all those years. So it really depends on why you are buying a particular watch and what you hope to get out of owning it. Hope this helps.

If you want a tough watch that will last, one that you're going to wear, Fossil is the watch to get, in my opinion. They're cheap, and from my experience really stand up to abuse well. I've owned many Fossils, and my first one I got 10 years ago still runs today and is in my collection. I've done cement work, fallen on the pavement skateboarding, and many other things while wearing that watch, and it still runs great with a minor scratch (can't even see it unless you look for it) on the crystal. Point is, for the price, you'll be hard pressed to find such a sturdy watch, Sure, the design isn't as flashy or clean as other watches, but I'd rather have a sturdy watch than a flashy one. Not to say they don't look good, they do. Also, I just recently got a fossil mechanical watch, that's a skeleton design, and I'm in love with it. It's been running great, and just looks great. Not as accurate as a luxury chronometer, or a quartz, but that's what a cheap mechanical watch is going to get you.

If they are ok living for the rest of their lives by scamming people by telling people that Mvmt is as good as rolex Yada yada well go for it. But for some of us that reached the top with integrity we can sleep well at night

Probably worth the price they paid for the name recognition and marketing that has brought in thousands of young twenty somethings who probably weren't into watches before MVMT's marketing intrigued them and sold them in wearing a watch. Worth the brand loyalty of young up and comers instead of older 'well I made it' customers. Always good to think about the future. They can always improve the quality, manufacturing and pricing issues.

They did they paid tens of millions for it and sold Piaget to finance it. That tells you all you need to know.

Well, at least they are shown like real screws are - unaligned. The aligned „bolds“ on the Royal Oak for instance annoy me, because they just don’t make any sense.

... which is especially relevant for watches, which by their nature are all about details (like the mastery of detail that is required for accurate measurement of time).
