I think the bird you heard was a red kite. Buzzards produce a more mewling call but it’s easy to get confused between the two. Buzzards are very common where I live in Leicestershire and I see them all the time. Unfortunately no red kites around here but I did see a red kite while I was in Wiltshire a few months back. Definitely an encounter I’ll never forget

Stick insects were a really popular pet for children back in the 80’s. I suspect that some of the UK’s populations are possibly those released by parents of children who’d lost interest. XxX

My list would be slightly different- 1. Honey buzzard (about 10-20 breeding pairs. 2. Montagus harriers (about 1-2 breeding pairs). 3. Black winged stilts (1-2 breeding pairs). 4. Snowy owl (1 wintering bird on ST Kilda- hasn’t returned this year). 5. Black browed albatross (summering bird- hasn’t returned this year).

Your butterfly was a Comma (so called because of the comma like white marking on the underwing). It's not a particularly abundant butterfly in England but the population is apparently expanding.

Terrapins were living in the wild in the UK long before Ninja Turtles.. I saw them myself.. In fact I would say they were more common in pet shops in the 60's 70's and 80's than after the release of Ninja Turtles.. I owed a pet shop at the time.. I wouldn't sell them.. People always got rid of them once they out-grew their owners.. People would not spend the money it took to keep them humanely in a lager tank or a small heated pool..

Other animals you could add.....the other buzzards....rough legged and honey if you wanna stay on birds then also the Bittern, Nightjar, Goshawk, Hen Harrier and can't forget the Starlings which are in decline too, to name a few. Heading away from the skies you have pine martins, stoats, weasels, scottish wildcat, Orcas, puffins......I could go on forever for animals I'd love to see or see again.

Great video! You'd definitely enjoy a trip to Regents Canal! Its full of all sorts of weird & wonderful animal life! Theres a little nature park, Camley St Natural Park there which is great for local schools..and a lot of tall tales of all sorts of things that have come from the zoo over the years..as well as from when it was a huge hub for canals, transporting stuff from all over the world to other parts of the country .. I saw was a huge number of dead eels there once..chopped off heads with about 1ft of body attached, but the bodies were about 6' diameter so possibly the tales of giant eels are true!...lots of cormorants and herons there too..and if you're particularly unlucky the odd dead body isnt that unusual either!

Yeah, american minks are very common in certain areas, this also means the water vole population in those areas is next to none unfortunately. I saw one down by River Taff 5 months ago or so.
@theotheseaeagle
@theotheseaeagle Год назад
Honestly people are always banging on about gulls and crows being pests or eradicating all the wildlife. Why don’t more people complain about American mink? I suppose it’s because they are “cute” yet I don’t see how murdering an entire population of endangered watervoles is considered “cute”

Bet you could solve the mystery in no time & take Katie with you 👍

@@WildlifeWithCookie it is weird. What wildlife could be in the Bradford woods ? Guessing wild pigs , deer , badgers etc & from what you have taught me possible other introduced UK animal anomalies . The tree knocks & branches breaking is weird . Typical sounds attributed to yowies & Sasquatch etc anyways their has to be logical cause & reason behind the sounds & I'm sure its wildlife . Could be Erwin Saunders & his pixie's 😅 might tell grizzly Gaz to make sure he has UFO lollies with him at all times
