I was very disappointed to hear the news of the show ending. However, just as I was disappointed about Luke Cage, at least we got 4 seasons vs 2 for Luke. Off topic, we only got 2 seasons of One punch man as well.
I agree with what you are saying because it seems that her conscious is bothering her, as she describes why she is leaving the show. It’s obvious that she will have an effect on the show, because she was one of the main characters. Also, the “social justice” messages in the show on DC may have been bothering her.
It sounds like she’s tired of how this industry is and she made a personal decision. I definitely think that they decided to end the show all together since she was going to leave. I mean, she’s a huge star on the show.

I tried to watch the first season in late 2018 i think, couldn't get into it i tried again like 2 years later fell in love with the characters I'm going to miss the show

I'm in a Facebook Black Lightning fan page. One of the moderators with inside knowledge posted her video on Facebook and he said "it's deeper than this" he has refused to go further. Needless to say I am devastated that this show is being canceled.
@@AltFactuals she isn't the sole reason. One of the group members said she thought the cast had to take a united stand and made the decision to walk away. The moderator I mentioned earlier said her assessment was close and that he was going to leave it at that. I don't even know if I want to watch season 4...it will be too sad for me.

Actually her mother told us in a IG live chat that her & the family are working on getting a film production company started & they’re doing a few things in process. But it still doesn’t mean something didn’t happened behind the scenes of the show with the fact that China Anne McClain & Cress William who played her father Jeff on the show stopped following each other suddenly they no longer have each other on social media anymore & given the fact that they both weren’t in any scenes on the show the entire season 4 so something had to have went down behind closed doors of the show.

As someone who just got back into Black Lightning after finishing my video game backlog, I am immensely saddened. This is one of the better directed and written CW shows. I hope this finds a new home

This was my favorite show hands down, but I myself had to purchase the season on demand and watch it when I wasn't tired and when I had time. I'm going to miss this show. Luke Cage, now Black Lightning, man!
Sooo I just binge watched all 3 seasons and I can see the negative and positive in the show. I love the dialogue and topics of things some black people don't see and the revealing of systemic plots against people of color. But the subliminal use of many black antagonist was soothing because there is a self destructive mentality in the community. My pet peeves were the same things that make me mad in real life, it was always a struggle for them to work together and nothing goes right until they do, the arrogant nature of a black woman in power. The limit of everything being in Freeland, The Martin Luther King mentality and the Xmen feel of it all. But some of my pet peeves is why I liked the show. It was a cringy ride of excitement.
I can tell you: Hollywood is hell. You have to do certain things in order to stay relevant. They all worship Satan. Satan took her to a places he was not willing to go. Imo, what you're saying makes sense I hope there's nothing messy that will come out as a result of the show ending. What in find interesting though is the use of the word "canceled" when the story was broken about Black Lightning coming to an end. When a show typically ends for, what I'll call natural causes, they don't use the term canceled. So because of that part of me remains a bit dubious about the state of affairs but optimistically hope that its something closer to or exactly what you said in this video

Guess I’m done with CW. It sucks that when I finally found a dc hero I feel I can personally relate to, CW decides for whatever reason to end it. The show wasn’t perfect by any means but I thought it was better than the other cw dc shows.

Unless something else is/was going on behind the scenes, they could have always recast the role of Jennifer and chosen another actress to portray her. That happens in soap operas and other TV shows all the time (or at least a lot). "The role of such-and-such is now being played by so-and-so..." Then again, sometimes recasting causes the character to not be the same and people end up preferring the original over the replacement (Aunt Viv from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, anyone?)
Recasting would have been bad because she was an absolutely favorite on the show by many! But I think there is a lot more going on behind the scenes and this is just one part of it.
Recasting would not work. Believe it or not China Anne McLain is the reason why black lighting has the majority of its views. Replacing her will make the show go down the drain.
I have to agree too . That most of us everybody watch the show in part because of the younger casts specifically the daughters (mostly China) they didn't watch to see older cast on the show. Also it was geared as if they was going to take over anyway . I don't think they ended the show just because of her. CW was probably giving them other issues, plus push them towards stuff that doesn't fit "basically show runners and CW have divergent agendas.
I feel your observation is factual. She’s arguably the most famous actor on the show, so even if they killed or wrote Jen out and pivoted the show to Anissa, Jeff && The Outsiders, they couldn’t have survived that change
For her to be so young or whatever is happen in the background that public isn't aware of, 9 times out of ten she is the center of it? If she doesn't what to go into details, she probably is the cause some of the actors or directors aren't too happy on the decision or direction she didn't want to go; but the public don't know the whole story just going by her reaction and what she saying . We probably won't find out until a few months or a years from now.

Thank you for all of the insight. I think that the first 3 seasons were so Anissa/Thunder centric that they could've easily pivoted to following her journey. The CW is an expert at writing off characters. In that light I agree that something else is going on.
Bruh her leaving was not the reason, she can easily be recast. It was behind the scene politics, and mostly likely creative differences. It sucks that a few idiots always get in the way of good shows.

I agree the daughters are the most important element of the show and they were moving toward Young Justice characters as in the comics. In addition, HBO Max is swallowing most of the DC comic content to compete with Disney/Marvel.....

One actress does not make the show or break the show. They have killed off characters and show kept going. China has lost friends and it had hurt her spiritually. I really hope she finds comfort and recovers in God's Work. I felt like her joy is no longer there and she is moving on to find it again.
She is giving herself totally over to a Godly lifestyle and what she does on the show is conflicting with her beliefs and new lifestyle. `Knowing what I know about being a church life for the past 32 years I have a firm idea as to why she is leaving. But it still kills me that they are ending the show. What they could have done is made her fight a bad guy use her power so strongly like Phoenix that is transforms her image. When she returns in the finale she is an entire different looking person. Then whom ever takes her place can start season five as her.

I was hyped when Black lighting was announced but after session 3 I realized it was one big trope, mixing Homosexuality with Christianity, underground railroad, fried chicken, speeches from king and the rest; it was 2 much for me, the show did not bring anything to the table except super powers, cool super suits. Keep in mind I have no problem with any of those things However I do not like to be pandered too. I think that she left because she saw those very same issues And she was courteous enough to bow out without dragging the show Through the mud.
I watched China's whole video and it seems she wants to do other things besides acting. Y'all have to remember she has been acting since age 5. She is 22 now. As for the show: Black Lightning didn't have the ratings in my opinion. I feel it was a matter of time. The spin-off is only a back door pilot and may not be picked up for a full season

I'm so sad that this show is being cancelled. I binge watched it on Netflix when it was available. I hope it ends in such a way that allows it to be opened for another season later. China sounds so sad. I hope whatever she's going through, she gets closure, healing, and whatever she needs to be whole.

@@cygnetlake8017 well to answer your question, yes I think it can. The initial hype about the shows announcement was that they were bringing DC comics first official black superhero to live action. As you say, people like me who have been fans of the character in the comics waaay before a show was thought to be possible, watched for not just the lead but his entire mythology. That includes every member of his family and villians. In a situation were one actress has decided to leave a show for whatever reason shouldn't be strong enough to cancel a show and hero that transcends beyond the actors themselves. We're talking about characters bigger than any one actress and casting choice. Batman is a big example of this. Over the years we find a new actor taking on the mantel and it's great but while actors and people fade away, the iconic character that is Batman still lives on. Blacklightning and his family are no exception. I mean let's also be clear. The Actors ofcourse are awesome and great, i love each cast member as much as the next fan but remember its chyna playing Jennifer/lightning and not the other way around. Representation in this medium with these specific characters needs to continue and if that means recasting one person to continue the representation of an all black family then so be it.
I’m sad to be losing suck an awesome show but I’ve been a huge fan of China basically since elementary school and I honestly follow her where she goes because of her energy. Rather a new tv shows or movies or even other stuff like organizations that she might work with. Again I think it’s sad the show is going but I can only hope the new spin off gives us something just as fresh as black lightning was .
Honestly, The Flash has been on in that slot. BUT CW doesn't promote Black Lightning as aggressively as the other shows and didn't do as much cross promotion. So it's obvious to me why it didn't do as well.

The show isn't over just because she's leaving. There is this thing called recasting that CW doesn't like to do. The show is called Black Lightning not Black Lightning's Kids.
I like you said there a wholesome family the family is basically Christian black light and believe in God they pray at the dinner table he loves his daughters and their real family they have problems but they stick together through everything especially when when pushed up against the wall so who knows maybe we all prayed the show will still stay on because I think that show can bring light to people's homes because I find it to be very inspiring with Jefferson's mentality the actors mentality the way they they carry themselves
