To be frank, Yugioh is in desperate need of a revamp on a deep level. Some type of media re-launch (whether it be a new series or alternate arcs with familiar characters), exciting modern sets for collectors and some sort of mass appeal to collectors aside from insane chase and/or copy and pasting old cards/sets (ie alternate artworks of popular monsters) Pokémon has been marketed much better than Yugioh overall.
A reprint of old products like EX Starter Box 1999 or Vol. 1-7 box is something that I am hoping for. TCG konami has a great success with the reprint of 25th aniv. LOB in the west. Idk why Konami Japan can't do something like that.
As animanga and light novel enjoyer, I really want Konami to write the lore and card's story consistently, and better than in Solo Mode in Master Duel. As Japanese, they should understand the power of these media to build an emotional relationship between them and their costumer. I think this will give more value too to more modern cards because we usually always "trapped" with nostalgia cards. Because maybe the nostalgia cards are the only cards with good stories behind them. . Personally I'm not really interested to Anime Cards from Yugioh and I'm bored with that "milking". But, lore from the artypes in Yugioh are really interesting to me. When someone love a manga or novel, they usually collect the merchandise too. So I think if they can make a good story, I think some people will interested to collect the cards as merchandise.
Agree with most of the points you made here. The Kaiba Case and the re-release of the Exodia Pieces in the different sets are the standouts for me. I do appreciate the effort they've put in with all of the store and brand collaborations, but besides that, everything else seems very "lazy" or not that well thought out compared to the things happening on the Pokemon side.

I would also add to this the ability for duel winners to possibly get cards of their design added, and going out of their way to get input from players, both old and new. I have some ideas percolating in my head to add useful tech that can be splashed into decks, like good pendulum support and odds and ends for happenstance things I found a want for, and to add some clever counterstrats for some decks I find kinda toxic.
Interesting. I think I just got started into the hobby due to recent the Quarter Century Chronicles Unity box. But I feel the same frustration that the really cool cards are really hard to pull (and i didnt want to break the bank for this). But hey at least all the cards are foiled i guess? It wasnt so bad for me as a newcomer but i cant imagine how the older collectors would feel.

The Kaiba briefcase was the highlight of everything Konami did in so long, I adore it. I have in my bookshelf 1 acrylic display with the 3 blue eyes, and one where I took them out and set them off to grade on day and switched them for the God Cards in 25th century rare. They are like 10 bucks each but maaaaaaaan they look good! Other than that I mainly agree with what you said, OCG did not do much at all for collectors and the DMG being so rare is just too much. Hope we'll get her in a promo in english, I mainly collect pokemon and I don't have much money left for yugioh so I love buying cards for cheap when they look that good and as such I'm having a lot of fun on the TCG side getting a playset of all the promos xP
1.- The WPP pack was indeed very lack luster but nothing to do with the anniversary. DMG feels out of place but technically they celebrate with the exodia piece old style. 2.- QCRs gold lettering is fine. I feel they only had choice between blue and gold (red, yellow, blue pattern). Maybe blue for 30th? 3.- Magicians of bonds and unity is actually very cool BUT only needed 1 color variation. There should have been different cards after that. 4.- OCG prices do seem very high considering the TCG version of magicians of bonds and unity is cheaper in the TCG. 5.- Brand collabs are fine. I don't mind they are not QCRs or anything more 25th ish. 6.- The TCG reprint boxes suck. Should have been a different set number and included QCRs. 7.- Rarity collection is nice. TCG player finally get something. 8.- Briefcase is good but should have been more widely available through TCG stores and not Konami directly like they did in Japan selling through the Satellite shops. 9.- World championship did have a side event but it was also lottery which is the same problem. They should have done local tournaments with the WCS ban list and special prizes. Overall some things I like (QCRs every 3 boxes or so) and some things I dont like (super expensive products like the Kaiba case or the Silver cards). Technically the real celebration product will be the new QUARTER CENTURY DUELIST BOX. I hope they do a good job with it.
It feels like they valued quantity over quality. Also the rereleases of the original sets being with the modern card layout (at least on the english side, no clue what OCG did) really ruined the fun for me. I did buy the boxes but I just have them sealed right now because opening the packs and having the cards look like that doesn't really feel the same. It's cool to have the boxes though, I never got to own a whole box as a kid.
Agree with your point on their terrible decision to go with Gold lettering for the 25th Quarter Century Secret Rares. As a max rarity collector/player I absolutely LOVED 20th Secret Rares and the beautiful red lettering and was let down. It's such a baffling decision to go with Gold lettering when it already is on an existing rarity. I honestly thought they would go with Green Imo they should explore new dynamic rarities like they did in Rush Duel and what Pokemon has done recently. Completely new card layout and full arts that cover the entirety of the card space. Absolutely horrendous decision they've done with WPP too. I was looking forward to getting all or at least the foils in 25th Quarter Century Secrets too like Daruma Cannon and Garura, with DMG as a nice bonus but they couldn't even foil out Daruma Cannon, jeezus
Bro I need three ground xenos for my dino deck, in Wild Survivors they upgrade the rarity of OCG from super to Ultra and they printed one every 60 boosters. I bought two 24 boosters pack and didn't get a single ground xeno. I hate TCG keeps doing this every time a meta relevant cards comes into the game. And they did the same with the 25th Dark Magician in Battle of Chaos the last year
Make a new show with atem and the old cast with a new villian. Show the people why yugioh was so popular in its earlier years and can market new fan favorite cards from the show. That’s how blue eyes, dark magician, etc got so popular in the first place. Now it’s just new cards with no background, granted some cards get backstory but no anime to showcase real excitement of that monster.
Yugioh for the anime needs to go back to the 1 gen yugi moto post atem, feel like this would definitely get past players hyped about the game again. For the game, i think the tcg and ocg having the same banlist would really go a long way improving alot of decks just with maxx alone The way the ocg handles rarities is dope btw
Well, I just open 24 Boxes of this anniversary and dont get BMG. I quite agree with you. I'm a collector and dont play Yugioh card at all. It's fun while opening those box but at the end I feel these card are useless. I dont enjoy modern card.
the main difference is that Pokemon has the same Pokemon with different card effects every time. Yugioh limited themselves a lot in creating the game by having the same cards have the same effects every time. If they had the ability to just print a Dark Magician Girl with new stats / effects, they would do it for sure and then it would feel more like Pokemon. I can promise you that some Pokemon are getting printed WAY too much and will have a new artwork in every other set which can get extremely boring as well. They maybe shoud've printed DM & DMG on the same card for the "Bonds of Unity" instead of new monsters. I personally don't mind them just changing the background. I feel like having all of them in a binder at the end will look amazing. The TCG Reprint boxes are great but I think they should've 100% added 25th rarity cards into them.
