I PRAY that Hasbro goes back on their opinion on Rail Racer, because it’s one of the best combiners that holds up to this day. To avoid poor sales, I could somewhat see them doing some limited edition titan class like Zarack, but either way, it’s still one of the most desired figure upgrades from myself.
@jonathandyck4689 There is a slippery slope in telling Hasbro that products should be locked behind a fundraiser for stuff they could produce normally. Unicorn made sense as an exception since he comes packaged in a box the size of a washing machine. Now I see way too many people say they want characters that should be in the mainline be crowdfunded instead. Don't complain if a popular character eventually shows up on HasLab because of that.
I know during an interview someone from Hastak once said that Armada Optimus (pre-comander class leak for legacy) would never have a chance at a non-mainline release because they would never let an Optimus figure go to HasLab. Unfortunately I suspect the same is true for Megs. *Giga*tron on the other hand might have better chances... Man it's hard to tell if it's something they'd be willing to do or not.
@@robbyrhodes4572 The new one that is coming out, Autotrooper, Seeker, Sharktacon and a cybertronian trooper with the autotrooper having a kiss players head
I feel like the only way to do a G1 Megatron that turns into a gun would be to market it as a “spaceship” or “submarine” mode like Titans Return Sixshot or Siege Shockwave, and even then they’d have to design him after his gun mode in the Machinima series or something like that.
THAT is a cool gun mode, tbf. Like why make him a stupid pathetic Nazi peashooter that has to shrink to be held? If he's gonna have extreme firepower anyway, just make him a ginormous f*you cannon! Doesn't need to be held, and anyone not as powerful as him or Optimus who tries just becomes a glorified extra power cell. Yeah, flying space cannon. Flying GUNship. The pun is right goddamn there, Hasbro! Closest I see to that mode is MMC Tyrantron's cruiser mode, literally a cannon barrel with wings and treads.
@@reyonXIII Good point, but if they start in that direction, they'll probably just take it to the natural conclusion and just end up making him a tank.
@@Beedo_Sookcool And that is why that's been his default since G2. Personally, ever since ROTF, if he's not gonna be a purely terrestrial tank, just make him a flying tank. And in general, for a leader of fliers, just give him an aerial alt mode, like Animated or Earthspark's twin-rotor alt mode, though that would clash with G1 Megs's specific aesthetics.
Re: replacement combiner members. I had the idea of each team getting an additional member that is a modulator that becomes the hands/feet/chest piece for combine mode.
Honorable mention for Kaon from MTMTE. I highly doubt Hasbro would ever wanna do that character unless they DRASTICALLY change his alt mode to something a little more kid-friendly.
I feel like RID megatron would be pretty simple actually to make a new toy of; he’d probably just be simplified with the 2 headed dragon mode and maybe jet or bat mode. I also feel the same about animated shockwave that instead of quad changing they’d release longarm on his own as a remold.
I forgot to mention this on the Titan video, I'm surprised they haven't attempted the Megatron Head/Ship from Beast Machines. I wouldn't be surprised if they repainted the Legacy TMII as a Gen Selects BM Megs when he was out of the harness.
Much like TJ said about his season one body, I assume the low popularity of that Megatron would be why they haven't done it. Which is kind of a shame because I think it could come out pretty cool. Make it a triple changer with the head mode, the ship mode, and a robot mode that works in design elements of the harness.
My thoughts for RiD Megatron? Either HasLab, or make him a Commander Class with accessories, just so they have maximum engineering budget to work into getting those modes in. As for Beast Machines Megatron, a really brave Hasbro might do that too. A retool of Legacy Megatron that comes with the harness, sold at a higher price point to cover the cost of the accessory, which honestly just needs to be the armor, helmet, and cap that slip over Megatron with his wings detached.
So when I think about the alternator toys, it reminds me how my local Wal-Mart thought they were model cars and kept them with the model paints/model cars and not with the other Transformers.
I have an idea for how to handle Magmatron. Make him 3 seperate toys. 2 voyagers (seasaur and landsaur) and a deluxe (skysaur) Give each one their own robot mode. That conveniently looks like another dinosaur mode transformer. (Like basing skysaur's bot mode on Archadis) to make retools easier to plan. Then combine the 3 into a roughly commander sized robot. (And then use that year's commander slot for Big Convoy)
11:44 I can see 1 way they do Magmatron. Giving his dino parts unique robots, then combining into the big guy when you buy all 3. Gives you more play value, gives a completion incentive, and makes it able to hold more engineering.
Still, that is really unlikely almost every toy gets one repainted there are very few figures who don’t even combiners will sometimes get re-paints G2 motor master one comes to mine, and we don’t take repaint into account the complexity, the effort that probably only a few people will buy the entire set
Nightscream is definitely never getting another release. Not only was his original toy badly made (I've heard that the few toys known to be owned by collectors are falling apart, just because the plastic wasn't great to begin with), but he was universally hated while Beast Machines was airing.
An honourable mention would be Combiner Wars Blast Off; even though a jet makes more sense, so many people were "Nut muh GeeWun!" so he will forever be a shuttle. I myself have picked up just him so I can save him from obscurity, although a part of me wishes the head was accurate.
I hope they do other combiners like they did SS Devastator. Like if there's an SS86 Devastator, they will sell each member as their own full-featured figure.
I could see the Rail Racer trio being done as a Collaborative set with the Disney theme parks, redecoed that gives them the Disney monorail color scheme.
I feel like the Hasbo version of the Team Bullet Train in their original form should have been at the top spot since Hasbro LITERALLY stated they have zero desire to bring back that team in their original form. At least with RiD Galvatron, there's a chance Haslab could be hired to create a new version. That design looks better in white and purple anyways.
I have Rail Racer, so I'm completely okay with them never getting updated. However, if a third party decided to make them, I'd consider purchasing a second set Also TJ, the amount that Michael Bay said he would give out for finding the twins in DOTM was $25,000, but it's irrelevant because when people reported on forums that they had found the twins, Bay denied it, saying that it didn't count. Theorymus did an interesting video on this recently.
Rapid Run was my favorite toy growing up. I played with it more in train mode than anything. I thought bullet trains were so cool! Now I hear everybody say they failed BECAUSE they were trains. Guess I was weird.
One thing they could do for the twins is make a battle mask face and label it as a "concept" design just for a excuse to get us to quiet down about the twins. But we know how Hasbro is, they seem to never think about that type of thing
I'm not sure if I agree with the obscurity argument on Magmatron compared to his contemporaries, he did actually come out in the west as one of the exclusive Dinobots during Beast Machines. Might fit into more of the territory they do with a Haslab but I wouldn't write him off entirely. I definitely see where you're coming from with a "proper" Beast Machine's Megatron. Unfortunately even 3rd parties tend to avoid this era like the plague, I would totally be in the market for an upgrade kit for the Transmetal 2 Leader that at least gives the harness for him, even if it wasn't 100% accurate to the show appearance.
10. There is a chance we might see these characters again, though they might be recolours of non-combiner characters. 09. As some have commented below, HasLab is probably the best approach. 08. This one’s pretty much a ‘box checked’, even if some weren’t happy with the execution. 07. If we get a new Prime Smokecreen, a ‘season three’ redeco might be the closest we get to that. 06. Possible HasLab project too. 05. They’d probably have to re-invent the transformation and deco for this one. 04. Yeah, I don’t know how this would work. 03. Hasbro could always go back on their word on this one. 02. At best, I see these two being done at core class. 01. Kind of cheat, since, like you said, it’s just the alt mode that can’t be redone.
@@Rabbitlord108 As a stand-alone size class, yes it appears to be gone. However, smaller-sized figures will still be packed with some of the larger toys, when they feel the need for it.
Can I make a couple of suggestions? I'd really like to see a Here's 10 list of fiction only characters that deserve toys. Some of them would be easy, because they are virtual redecos, but some would be kind of hard. Another Here's 10 I would really like to see is a list of non-G1, non-Beast Wars reissues that we need. I'd love to see some RID stuff reissued. As for this list, I could see some of these characters getting new toys, but only in Japan. Like, Team Bullet Train. I can see Takara doing something with those. Although, them doing stuff independently is not as frequent as it used to be.
I think the issue comes with how the wings and head would work in robot mode. Obviously BM Megatron’s dragon mode is just TM2 Megatron’s dragon mode with a more patch-like color scheme. But for TM2 Megatron’s robot mode, the dragon wings just fold up their wing span and his robot mode head is connected to his beast mode tail. I’d say that in order for BM Megatron to be made in Legacy, Hasbro would not only have to repaint the Legacy TM2 Megatron, but also retool some of his transformation. For example, they could try and get the wings to fold in more in order to hide them under the robes for the harness. And for Megatron’s head to properly fit inside the harness’s helmet, Hasbro could take inspiration from the old BM Megatron toy and have his right arm become his tail in dragon mode. I can’t say it’d be the perfect solution, but it would be the groundwork for how to try and get a Legacy BM Megatron made.
The best shot at a Gun Megatron we have is one that turns into something else but some sneaky designer sneaks in gun mode through fanmoding or something.
The only way I can ever see a cartoon-accurate Beast Machines Megatron working is if Hasbro brings back the Pretender concept. Have the big red dragon as the interior robot and the blue robot with arms as the pretender shell. IIRC the blue robot mode of BM Megatron was meant to be just a suit of armour that let Megs interface with Cybertron anyway.
What they could do with Beast Machines Megs would be to make another mold of the dragon megs from Legacy, but with a battle suit cape and attachments to make him powered up into BW Megs.
The legal situation around G1 Megatron is a bit more complicated than "not allowed in the US", but the effect is the same. Realistic toy guns are 100% legal on the federal level, provided they meet certain coloring standards (orange tip, transparent body, the like). The problem is that state laws are far more stringent, with some states having more extensive coloring standards, and some states outright banning them. So yeah, any gun Megatron would be unviable, and a screen-accurate gun Megatron would be nearly impossible.
I could see them doing another Devastator where the individual vehicles don't have robot modes since they didn't in the movie anyway. That would make for a better combined mode overall.
Honestly, if I worked at Hasbro, I would've made sure Skids and Mudflap would make it in Studio Series. The way I look at it: Studio Series should always be live action movie designs only. They're the lawful good of the line. Even if the Gamer edition figures based on the WFC game generally look good, those are more like neutral. They look good, but they needed their own toyline, separated from the Studio Series name. And all the SS86 figures fall into Chaotic Evil, because prior to the first of those figures, Studio Series seemed to be the final bastion of the Transformers franchise that hadn't been contaminated by G1 nostalgia, providing some escapism from all the G1 stuff at the time, and as soon as they announced they wanted to branch off to G1 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the 1986 movie, that bit of escapism was taken away from us. Hell, I'd even argue that some of the characters we got in SS86 had better figures in previous toy lines because slavish G1 cartoon accuracy is not always a good thing.
So this may be a weird question. I know toy laws don’t allow for toys that look like real guns, but I’ve seen a few ads where real guns are starting to look like toys. Like bright pink or even hello kitty. I think I saw one made in the theme of Sally from nightmare before Christmas. How is that not also a problem?
They could do RID Megs, but it would likely only have three modes. They won't. Don't think they will. But they did make the versions of Scourge, so maybe, and a redo of the Fire Convoy isn't gonna be because that thing was a mess to transform.
He just laid out why. The laws are even stricter than ever before. And anyone with a functioning set of eyes, ears, and ability to check the news around them can easily figure out why. And with the apparent increased focus in accuracy or homaging, any gun Megatron that's not metallic greyish is going to be met with whining of inaccuracy. It's a losing endeavor no matter the direction, and not worth all of the potential trouble they can get into just to sate the minority of adults whose nostalgia blinds them from what's going on in the world around them.
Rail racer would be a great Asia and Europe exclusive considering how prevalent the high speed rails are in those areas that can trickle to US for The collectors that want them.
I kinda like Megatron getting new altmodes, tanks really seem to suit him, then there's his two different attack helicopter depictions in Animated and Earthspark that were pretty cool.
I could almost see Hastak making a new toy based on the unreleased Animated season 4 Marauder Megatron, and then pulling a Shadowstriker and saying it's Beast Machines universe because the head is based on BM, maybe mixing in some more beast machines influence along the way.
As another commenter said, it's not just his colors or an orange tip that keep us from getting a G1-accurate Megatron outside of Masterpiece, it's that different states have vary levels of strictness with their toy gun laws. It'd be too much of a logistical nightmare to get a G1 Megs made that turns into a gun and obeys both federal and state laws out to market, which is why Megatron is typically either a tank or some sort of alien vehicle these days, especially since unlike Masterpiece, mainline Transformers is ostensibly targeted at kids.
By extension, G1 Shockwave will also never get a gun mode toy either. The Siege version had to fake a submarine mode like TR Sixshot in order to be released.
I honestly think he is the most likely figure, because he'd be an easy reuse of Bumblebee and Cliffjumper molds. And he'd get enough completionist fans wanting him a selects would work. If we got Hubcap, I don't think Bumper is out of the running.
GOD DAMN IT! My Son had Smokescreen... The Alternator one... It was AWESOME!!! Sadly, It got left behind when My Wife and I parted ways... Wish I still had it!
Hasbro: "You'll never get new figures of those characters because they didn't sell very well 22 years ago when the Transformers line was pretty much dead." Also Hasbro: "Our new Marvel and Star Wars lines are something were really proud of. People all over are rushing out for our versions of the top characters in their respective worlds and movies such as Captain Marvel, The Eternals, Wakanda Forever, Shang Chi, The Last Jedi, etc ."
was considering the Studio Series Devastator but then i found the original movie Titan version for $75 and it’s super solid. no individual robot modes but the combined mode looks great and is mad fun
I feel like bumper could get a bigger in the buzz were the bumblebee set it feels like something they could do since they did beast wars, toy color repairs feels like something they would do redo the cliff jumper mold, which would be cool
I do think Bumper can come back. He just needs a new color to be his own like Bugbite has white for his for them to use with the Bumblebee molds. Maybe blue for Bumper.
I believe the Combiner Wars replacement characters have a chance to come back mainly because groups like the Protectibots benefit for having more unique aspects rather than jus be another Scramble Combiner. All that remains is Hasbro thinking a new Defensor is needed or not lol. Regarding RID01 Megs, I think there’s a chance of him being a Haslab mainly because he’s such a unique design that I can see Hasbro going “we really want to try this” and campaign it.
Hasbro also said we would *never* get a Devcon. i agree with some of these. but others i feel are just a matter of the right designer pitching the right thing at the right time.
Magmatron is actually the most well known in the U.S. because he's the only one of the Japanese leaders that actually had an American release in the Dinobots subline. It might be confusing if they suddenly marketed him as a Predacon because in the U.S. he was actually sold as a Maximal. I'm not sure if there's any in universe explanation given as to why he's a Predacon leader in Japan and a Maximal in the U.S. I do think they could redo him though and actually make the design MORE complex cause the original design didn't have individual robot modes for the Airsaur, Seasaur, and Landsaur. The way he combines is pretty simple actually and they have done something similar and at a smaller scale with Armada and Energon Perceptor and also more recently with Centuritron. Granted it likely wouldn't be as solid as the original one was but I don't see why they wouldn't make a modern version when Lio Convoy is honestly way more complex with the way he transforms. Also... the only possible way I could MAYBE and this is a HUGE MAYBE, see Megatron as a gun ever again is if he's not marketed to be a gun. Like if they designed and sold the toy as something else and made the gun a hidden mode that isn't advertised anywhere it's not in the instructions anywhere, but the parts exist to make his gun mode, then MAYBE they could get away with it. They'd have to try a lot harder than they did with Shockwave and Sixshot where the gun mode is marketed as a submarine and it's clearly just the gun mode upside down cause that's not going to work for a realistic gun. It would actually have to have some transformation to it and probably some dedicated parts. I mean we've also KIND of seen this happen with Soundwave where they've given him a vehicle mode and it's not officially a tape deck but you can still fan mode him into one. That's the only way I could ever see gun Megatron happening at this point is if they sneak it in as an "unofficial" 3rd mode.
Magmatron got a bit of notice stateside with his appearance in IDW's first two BEAST WARS minis, The Gathering and Ascension. It's where I fell in love with the Predacon. I'd snatch him up if he was offered up again.
Those Combiner Wars extras might just get easy repaints of other characters at some time. Any Brawn mold can be Offroad (why wasn't there a CW Brawn), any helicopter can be Alpha Bravo.
I think it could be cool to have a new design for Alpha Bravo. I liked his look, but it might be nice to let him have a design that looks more like a unique individual and not just the recolored Vortex he essentially was.
Maybe they should just assign a new color to Bumper? Make him orange? That's a missing color in the Penny Racer rainbow! Or release like... Tap-Out with an extra Bumper head so you can make you own?
Don't tease me about a Botanica toy TJ. She is one of the only characters to appear on screen that hasn't had a toy. We got an honest to goodness Transmutate as a build a figure for crying out loud.
11:15 I recognize Magmatron better than Lio Convoy for one simple reason. Magmatron appeared in Western Beast Wars comics and Lio Convoy/Prime didn’t. 15:13 We’ve already kinda got him. Buy a second Legacy Dragon Megatron and customize it a little bit. Unless you want a later body he used. The Grand Mal would be neat to get.
I wouldn't rule out Beast Machines Megatron. After all, his floating harness wasn't part of the character's actual body. I could see them do a version that fit over the Dragon Megatron figure, and then transformed into the floating head.
