Greetings, I just got my 2023 I4M50, love it, but after 2 weeks the HUD stopped showing the navigation fro WAZE, what do I need to do to get it back? Thank you
Last time I checked the 2 were not compatible. I know it'll show directions for Apple maps and Google maps if you have android but don't recall it showing waze. If it did at one point it may be something that gets fixed through an update since it's something very new.
I had a 13 S5 for 6 years as well and would prefer the i4 over the i5. It's more nimble, easier to drive and space wise its just right. i5 actually felt a bit too large for me and didn't have the same tight drive the i4 has. Rear seats are ok, head room for anyone above average height might get a bit uncomfortable but driver wise its perfect. I'm 5'10, 170 Pounds.
Is there a setting to have my I4 warn me that am close to 30% charge since BMW recommends to recharge then, not when am low on mileage? Mybprior gas BMW, just had a bright lite that wud indicate that I was low by miles..
Attractive vehicle, but I am very disappointed in all the cheap plastic. Plastic window controls, plastic steering wheel control buttons. There looks to be an abundance of cheap plastic everywhere. It has the BMW logo, but is it?
I ordered my i4 eDrive 40 last week and was told today that it's supposed to arrive at my dealer in six weeks. And now I'm watching all those videos to find out as much as possible beforehand. Thanks for the great instructional content!
i am a happy eDrive 35 owner! looks just like this exterior, i just have black interior + ash gray trim. only gripe i have is the range for the 35, and how unreliable Electrify America is, which makes public charging pretty much a nuisance. a LOT of the EA stations near me are either all down entirely, or 1-2 out of the 4 chargers working properly, or extremely low power. I also commented on a previous video saying the i4 had no cubby, as the one you were using for the respective video did! so i knew i wasn't trippin, wish they didn't remove it, as the middle console and side door spaces are tight, bummer!
Great to hear from you again Nims, love the specs on yours. I personally have not used EA yet but haven't heard too many complaints on my end. EA is still on the newer side, so I'm sure with some time they'll get better. Add me on IG: BeamerView
i4, 4 series and quite a few other model lines have idrive8 and it cannot be upgraded to idive8+ Before ordering or buying the i4, 4 series there is comes with a hardware module which allows upgrade of the operating system from idrive8 to idrive8.5 Anything delivered prior to July 2023 does not. You need a MGU22!
@@BeamerView I was almost a pretty pissed off 24 440 owner. It's not just a case of 8 being able up e upgraded 8.5 is irrilavent. 8 should be able to go to 9 or 10 or whatever. Not many people knew about the hardware requirement for idrive8. It may all work out, but virtually anything that is on lots now should be checked to see if it can be upgraded and confrimed by knowing that piece is in place. 8 will be upgradedable, but najor enhancements. 8 to 9 etc. I Some peopple won't ware about it, but damn, I want go get what I should be geting in my 70 or 80k car. Electronics have never been BMW's strong point. I've owned them for 25 yrs. This last update that few new about really rubbed me the wrong way.
Go to the main settings and look for Doors/lock, unlock. In the settings there you should see the option to "fold in mirrors when locked" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-92I5tPJZm6A.html
Picked up my i4m50 today and I drove 300 km this afternoon. Lovely car! But one thing drives me crazy. It makes a «boop» sound from now and then. Its not the speed limit warning, that was turned off. I could not detect what the car tried to tell me. No, signs, text or anything, just this low, soft boop sound. It could disappear for 10, 15 minutes but suddenly it made the sound maybe 10 times in 2 minutes. Especially 😱in lower speeds. Someone plz help me!
do these come with xdrive? I'm looking to build a lease on one of these, and eventually get into the pattern of leasing these vehicles over and over, but I live in a climate that gets really bad winters. I'm not necessarily sold on getting the M version just for xdrive, but wasn't sure if the non M model came with it as an option
This video was more helpful than every BMW Agent I’ve worked with to purchase my car. Thanks soo much! I feel like I can teach them a thing or two. My only complaint is I ordered the metal key fob You’ve linked here and it didn’t fit my key fob 😢 I have the 2024 i4 edrive40
I needed this video about 12hrs ago before I went into the car wash with the sensors going crazy, and the guy towel drying my car upset my automatic windshield wipers 😳😬😂 V helpful, thank you!
since when was an electronic parking brake an “emergency brake”? if you only use park mode, you put the vehicle’s weight on the transmission and will wear it out quicker. it is best practice to engage the parking brake to put the load on the parking brake and then engage park mode on the gear selector.
The vehicles electric parking brake can also be used as an emergency brake if they for example your brakes on the floor not working you can hold up the emergency park, lever or button and then the vehicle will slowly come to a stop the SOS system
It's in the manual. Pull and hold the parking brake switch and the car will pull over and stop. Helpful if the driver conks out and the passenger needs to get the car stopped.
Does this car have the ability to lock the car and step away while it's turned on and the A/C or heater runs (e.g., going into a store real quick and leaving the car running with AC on when it's 100 degrees F here in Texas). I have that on my 2017 infiniti q50, but my wife's 2021 Lexus GX460 will not allow me to do the same. researching replacing my infiniti with a bmw like the one you reviewed. appreciate the review!
I believe all BMWs give you the option to do Pre-Conditioning when you're about to exit the vehicle. It's quite the handy feature actually. I know that the EVs can do pre-conditioning so you should also see that option right before you get out your car.
@@BeamerView Thank you for your message. To clarify, do you happen to know if you can exit the vehicle while keeping the car running and lock the doors? Sounds like you can, but just confirming.
Hi. Can you tell me the make of the tires this vehicle is supposed to come with? I got the i4 x drive 40. I saw on BMW website that the tires are Michelin or pirelli. The ones I have on my brand new vehicle are made by hankook. Thank you
I've also seen hankook, tires are virtually the same, it's weird how they do it though, you never really know which brand you're going to get they only put on whatever is available at the time of making the vehicle. Hankook is good from what i've seen.
8.5 should be available to EVs eventually, it'll take some time for the updates to roll out. I want to say it does not have the feature yet since it requires a newer chipset, haven't confirmed that but im pretty sure since it also does not have digital key plus.
Re the two defrosters, "Rear" stands for rear window I assume & "Max" stands for front window??? This will stop the windows from fogging up in cooler weather (as windows are prone to do)? Not many cars have a front window defogger which is why I ask. Thank you for responding. Great video BTW!!
Yes you are correct! I believe these are the only physical buttons available since it would be a safety hazard going into the climate menu and activating it. Thanks for the watch!
This car will leave you feeling like you’ve been scammed if you get it without the tech pack. Down side is with the Harmon lardon system you loose 2/3 of that additional space 3:12
Didn't know about the loss of space with the HK system thanks for pointing that! We don't have the option for tech pack here but I would highly recommend it, seems like it's totally worth having, especially for a car like this.
@@BeamerViewcognac looks brilliant, classy and lifts the cabin with the dash trims - but my only close option now in the Uk is Tacora red leather which looks a bit wrong as it's dark red 🤮
I believe the i4 should still have the blade key design which is the older design, it shouldn't have gotten the new key fob design yet as far as I've seen.
I just got mine, and it has everything on it, the subwoofer is awesome. The range is great too. Can you remove the plastic covers in the wheels, the tabs, I know those rims are a big difference, but they are ugly.
great video, i am interested in buying a new i4. However i had questions in regards to charging. Can i use a tesla charger at home to charge this i4? if so does it need a separate adapter and is the charging speed the same? or do you recommend just getting a BMW charger installed? thanks for the feedback.
I am so happy to finally see this review since I purchased M50 a couple of months ago! Thank you. Your videos are so informative and helpful for a new owner like me.
BMW loaned us the i4 while they worked on a PAS and Cooling issue with our 2015 BMW i3. Each day I would have to figure out what the car was doing and why they designed certain features into the UI. This post enhanced my experience 1000 % in a short period of time. Please post a video on the BMW M2. I hope to purchase a 2025 Automatic.
I4 keyfobs are larger than normal 4 series keyfobs. Neither of the keyfob covers listed explicitly say they are compatible. Can you verify they will fit?
I could double check this but as far as i've seen they are exactly the same. I would not buy if you do feel they are bigger for sure since these style covers are for the last generation.
EV vehicles will not be coming with spares since they will be needing the space to include a battery. Most of these new vehicles will only be coming with a mobility kit. There is also road side assistance.
Picked up my i4m50 last week. Still getting acclimated, but I like it. Unfortunately, the person who was supposed to show me all the features didn't know much. Have to figure it out on my own.
Not as far as I know, they are transitioning out of them as the years are coming. Many if not all EVs are coming with regular tires with just a mobility kit in the back. You also will have roadside assistance as a subscription.
Just answered your question in the previous comment. As of right now it's going to be a No. Vehicles with the newer service pack will be able to support this. Such as the 24 X5, BMW iX, etc
It does but I would not rely on it much. Usually isn't as up to date as some of the more popular GPS apps on your phone. Thanks for the comment! Don't forget to Subscribe if you haven't already so I can help you answer questions in the future!
This model lacks compartment package, thats why the cubby is missing below the light switches. I will get mine in a month and I have that package selected. Also the mirror correction switch will tilt the right mirror downwards when in reverse so that you can see the curb when paralell parking….
The Apple Maps in CarPlay does also pop up behind the steering wheel just like the BMW maps one when you have Navigation ON. So you get the same features which was lacking the prior iDrive version.
Wasn't aware of the compartment package, that's something that's not offered here in the US. Correct about the mirror switch, super useful when parallel parking.
Correct, they did recently have it so that for carplay apple maps now appears on the instrument cluster, it's also the same for Android Auto, it'll work for google maps as well for that system.
Unfortunately not. It does have a couple modes that would help however. One is to deactivate the motion detector alarm, and the other is preconditioning which keeps the air blowing. BMW would highly benefit by having a pet mode though.
Hey Shay, Congrats on the purchase. No major differences if any at all. Original i4s did come with iDrive 8 but were upgraded to 8.5 so yours should have 8.5 as well. Other than that all the same.
The i4s built after July 2023 have the head unit capable of operating 8.5 and thus they could be upgraded when it became available. Any i4 built before then stays with updated versions of 8.0
I doubt it will be coming to the 430i. Most of the vehicles that will be able to upgrade to or have iDrive 8.5 will require a newer service pack. I good way to tell is if your vehicle has Digital Key or Digital Key Plus. Vehicle with PLUS will be able to have and support iDrive 8.5.
Use this app called PLUG SHARE, it'll show you every charging station in the area. If you're in the US, try using Electrify America since some of their locations have the fast charger and it should be free for the first two years of the vehicle.
Not having AM radio is pretty fn annoying to me. I like being informed and significant amounts of talk radio run on the AM band because depending on weather conditions, it can reach even farther than FM. I bet it was because the EV drive generates so much noise that the AM bands might be noisy.
Yup just read about that - Car manufacturers say motors in electric vehicles generate electromagnetic interference that causes static in AM station signals. Instead of investing in workarounds that would solve the interference problem, they have chosen to eliminate the band, noting the other audio options that are available to consumers. Not sure if maybe you could stream AM radio through a app like iHeartRadio
10% to 80% is about 30-40 mins. Going from 80% to 100% is an additional 30 mins. It reduces the charge to protect the battery from overcharging. That's why it's slower.
It's a physical characteristic of the battery. It's akin to filling a gas tank where the fill pipe opens into the bottom of the tank: The more you put in, the more the pump has to work against the weight of what's already in there.
If you get a 40 with the M-Sport package, the only visual difference from it and an M50 would be the side mirrors-- only the M50 has the side mirrors with a top fin.
I’m assuming you can program each key fob to the desired setting 1 or 2 profile so that the car will auto adjust the seat, mirror, and dashboard display based on your profile?
You can program each key to a BMW ID and it'll auto adjust depending on whichever key/person enters the vehicle. Each key can store 2 seating assignments, so in total you have 4.
Thanks for the very thorough walkthrough. We’ve had our eDrive40 since mid June 2023 and we love it. Your videos have helped out for sure. That “Lim” button, in my experience, sets cruise control speed to the posted speed limit. When the wireless charger detects that your phone is too warm to charge (it gets hot!) the little light turns orange.
Happy to help. The LIM button is to limit your speed. Say for example, you can use it to set it to 80 mph and if the feature is on, you're vehicle will prevent you from going passed that to prevent you from speeding. Yes the wireless charger has that complaint quite a bit, I would use it without the case to see if that helps, or use another more thin case.
22:23 You push forward to Reverse, and pull back to Drive... ...they are going to to have to change that one day (either going back to a shift lever or changing the directions on that switch). The way I work around this potential confusion is to pretend the car is a spaceship and that selector switch engages rocket thrusters: You push forward to light off the retrothrusters in the nose (propelling you back) and pull the switch back to select the thrusters in the back to drive you forward.
