A little rough and working on making it more user friendly once all data is collected, but should give a good idea at the outset how defenses increase across NG+ cycles.

Gonna type it out again. What you call Physical Adjustment is, to use your language, simply Base Defense * Level Modifier / 100. It is not a unique parameter. On the Iron Golem: 175 * 2.33 / 100 = 4.07. If you want to think about this as a sum, then Slash/Strike/Thrust get (Physical Defense %) more defense than physical. More appropriately, the whole formula should be seen as a product: Defense = Base Defense * (1 + Physical Defense %) * Level Modifier * NG Plus Level Modifier * NG Plus Adjustment. I might add that you forgot the NG Plus Level Modifier in the second summand at 1:20.

Good to know. They always say to never do math in a video lol cause you’ll always be wrong at least once! I could not for the life of me figure where the adjustment was coming from.

It's awesome seeing Dark Souls still be dissected in 2024. I was always curious about stuff like this, but I don't have access to the game's code, and I don't really trust wikis for niche information like this....

Awesome research and breakdown. One thing I will mention for your future videos. The gray color in the background really blends with the thick borders of the text making it a bit hard to focus on. Adjusting either the background or text color would be really helpful. Also, since the text is different sizes and doesn't line up vertically with the legend at the top of the screen, having the different types of numbers slightly colored would make it much faster to go from line to line comparing the same stat between enemies.

Yeah I’m try to find a good balance. I’ll see about modifying it to make it a little easier to read. I’m going it in PS at bigger scales so sometime it appears more readable than it actually is

Nice basically knowing enemy weakest defence becomes more important as the "dmg to def ratio" damage calculation favours higher damage often more than just the AR suggest. And split damage becomes very bad. If wiki is correct bed of Chaos has sub five hit point so any non fire damage stuff 1 hit kills it so practically defence does not matter. That said does NG+ or above increases enemy "poise" and or "resistances".(Eg. in Dark souls 3 and Elden ring it does). In both of them NG+ had same poise as NG but above that is gets increased both use the same formula. Not sure if testable but likely it is noticable if there is an increase to them. Sif NG+6 bleeds in the same hits as NG or not.(resistance increase or not). Poise enemies can be tested eg.80 poise is 4 R1 20 poise weapons hits if it get increased then it will take 5 hits.(within 5 seconds). I think Taurus boss has 60 poise so can be tested on higher game cycles if there is an increase.
@trevthedev6134
@trevthedev6134 6 месяцев назад
I’ll test poise but bleed / poison / toxic don’t increase with NG cycles. I think the BoC probably has defenses, and iirc if you barehand hit it after a certain NG cycle (maybe even in NG+) you won’t one-shot it.

3:42 dunno if it would be that interesting but, maybe it would be fun to see a Dark Souls playthrough following the intended level order. I even wonder if this level order would allow for an actual 100% (doing all questlines, all bosses etc), I was never really quite sure on what is the order the devs always meant you to go through and I don't know if anyone ever figured out, it's clear for me that you should revisit the Asylum before Anor Londo but I never did so on my first playthrough (and many don't revisit the asylum until after either) and to me it's a bit clear that New Londo should be the first place you go to when doing the Lord Souls but I could never think what would be the intended following order, and also on the part of the questlines the game does make you go to catacombs earlier in case you wanna see Patches dialogues in the Catacombs and it also seems that the game will want you to go back to Blighttown in some points for the entire Siegmeyer questline thingy so yeah, I think this would be a fun thing to see if possible. + bonus if you can also make it with mathematically optimized damage lol

Dang, I just finished my first NG playthrough and I wish I saw this earlier so I could have prepared some specific fire/lightning weapons before going into NG+. Some of my observations based on the data: 1. Most bosses have a weakness to either fire or lightning. Ornstein, Ceaseless, and Centipede are instead weak to magic since they are strong/immune to their elemental specialties. 2. Smough is resistant to strike despite wearing heavy armor. 3. Priscilla and Seath are weak to both fire and lightning. 4. DLC bosses except Sanctuary Guardian have really high magic/fire/lightning defense. Better to go full physical against them. 5. Gwyn is weak to fire LOL.

You wouldn't want to do that because it takes away your stat scaling. Unless you were already doing a low stat build having things elementally infused isn't a good idea. In NG+ and beyond it is preferable to use a standard upgrade path +15 weapon and buff it. You are seeing these damage values and are coming to the wrong conclusion because you are not also calculating the damage through these listed resistances. Infusing it lowers the base physical and adds an element, splitting your damage. The AR on paper looks higher when you add it together but when you factor in boss resistances that lower base physical is going to be reduced even more after defense as well as whatever elemental damage your infusion has provided. If you were to instead invest into a stat like faith, you could apply sunlight blade to your weapon and have that extra damage stacked on top of the higher base physical of your standard path weapon. Sunlight blade has a damage modifier that is 1.8* your talisman's magic adjust, and you would want to use the appropriate talisman for your level of Faith. This way you are not splitting your damage, you are stacking damage on top of damage.

@@PenPenPlon ehhh I don't really mind. I've read up on the mechanics and their caveats in the fextralife wiki but at this point I just want to play around with something different. Although this was my first DS1 playthrough, I am already familiar with FS games.

@@adicacid All of the souls games are wildly mechanically different though. And yes, you don't mind but if you find yourself feeling like you're dealing bad damage with infused weapons you will now know why. If you really want to make the most out of elemental infusions go play dark souls 2 where they can actually be properly good, especially lightning infusion.

Interesting, what Param did you find the NG+2 to NG+5 modifiers? Afaik I've only been able to see the NGbase and NG+ numbers. Would also like to add that there is commonly used spreadsheet with most of this info as well.

I actually didn’t. I’m sure they have a value somewhere, but I was looking and saw the hp and soul increases in higher cycle and had a hunch it would be the same. Did 4 different tests on different enemies and the numbers matched those scaling thresholds.

THANK YOU. I've been looking for how DS1 area scaling works for MONTHS. Also, does the Asylum revisit count as a different level? Because it would make sense given the funni Black Knights DEFINITELY being stronger than the Burg one.
@trevthedev6134
@trevthedev6134 6 месяцев назад
It does! I am almost certain it has a level modifier of 14, meaning attack it is on par with the DLC in terms of raw damage and defense multipliers.
@PenPenPlon
@PenPenPlon 6 месяцев назад
They are actually different enemies in the game parameters. Undead Burg Black Knight has 497 HP, 214 phys/strike/slash/thrust and 142 Magic, 159 Lightning, 177 Fire defense. Black Knight in the revisited undead asylum has 746 HP, 315phys/strike/slash/thrust and 209 Magic, 234 Lightning, 261 Magic defense. They are the same, but entirely different enemies in terms of their base values so the math we do to calculate their defense values is the same, we just get a different result. Interestingly enough the ghosts that you see walking across the steps leading from firelink alter to kiln are also listed and have defense values even though you cannot kill them. Other “Immortal” NPCs like the giant crow, frampt, and kaathe also have defense and HP values. Every instance that you meet or summon Solaire has a different entry in the parameter sheet as well. You can figure out NPC’s exact “stat spread” and some of them are pretty wonky. In terms of area scaling I don't think there is any, NG+ takes the same enemies and applies a new modifier to them. Each enemy is unique to the area, the serpent soldiers in sen's are different from the ones in Duke's according to their base values, the serpent in sen's who is leaning against the wall before logan even has a different set of base values. Some more enemies within the same area have different values, such as the demonic foliage near the forest hunters having increased HP and defenses compared to the ones near moonlight butterfly. I went in game to test this because I thought we might have been wrong, and sure enough they are different.

@@PenPenPlon A solid quarter of the video is about the different 'level'-based differences, which are modifiers to the base stats of enemies based on the level/area they're in. That's DS1's equivalent to ER style Area Scaling. Also, do you know how I'd work out how to get Black Iron Tarkus' exact stats? I wanna do a run just straight up as him
@PenPenPlon
@PenPenPlon 6 месяцев назад
@@KaroxNightshade A lot of the NPCs wield things that their stat spreads wouldn't actually allow. Like 15 faith for lightning spear so I'd not go with any of that. You could do every noob ever's build and have Havel's stupidly high 50 str though.
