Here's how I Plan to Custom Build my Miniature Old West Hotel - Made from Foamboard!!

In this video I'll explain my plans for my 1/16 scale Old West Hotel. The walls and Hotel floor (foundation) are cut from foamboard two layers thick. I used Glue-All to glue the layers together. Then weighted them down while they dryed. The floor pieces that my wood plank flooring will be glued onto is like a light weight chipboard. Probably the equivalent of two layers of my favorite heavy 110 weight cardstock. I assemble the floor (foundation) and base. I don't glue the walls on yet because I'd like to apply the wall finish first if possible. Same with the flooring.

This is going to be amazing! I like the idea of the balcony over the lobby and the stairs going up the outside. Thank you for sharing your construction methods, it will be great seeing this all come together!

You are such a pleasure to watch and learn from! I’m thrilled the scale is smaller. I have two 1:16 houses and it’s a smaller scale for me. I’m still learning to work and create in this scale, as opposed to 1:12. Can’t wait for your upcoming videos! You have such great skills and are incredibly good at presenting tutorials! Best, Kathleen 🌸

Thank you Kathleen! I can’t thank you enough for your kind words! 🥰 Not long ago I worked in 1/6 scale. Just didn’t have the space for that anymore and with no granddaughters yet to share. Living in an apartment I have to be careful of the scale. I’d love to work in 1/12 scale but probably won’t ever happen unless I move. 😆

@@Lauras-tinyview you’re so welcome! I hear you on limited space issues! I have a little art studio that is pretty much “all dollhouse and miniatures” now -with a bit of room left for my collage work. It’s always a balancing act … and miniatures seem to always win! Thanks again! Kathleen 🌸

Well begun Laura. I admire your vision and planning. A strong foundation will come in handy for the dancing and raucous activities that took place in old time hotels😄😄🤣or is your establishment going to be more refined and genteel? Ha ha!

Ha ha I’m hoping it’s more refined and gentee. I’d expect those kind of shenanigans to go on down the street at the Saloon. 😆🤣

This is going to be a fun watch. Scratch built is the best way to go. Im currently in the same situation when it comes to lightning and not knowing where to put the battery. I now figure out the lighting first then take it from there. Good luck ❤❤❤

Thank you! It’s tricky I want the switch hidden but easy to turn off and on, but the battery pack isn’t far from the switch and I need to make it easy to change out battery as needed. Overtime it will get easier.

Brilliant Laura, I have been looking forward to this due to my wanting an Inn in my scenes, its not quite as difficult in Medieval times as lots of customers slept above the stables or multiple people to a room, basically crashing on straw wherever there was space, I did want a few rooms separate but for the most part, it won't mean making lots of individual spaces. I keep changing my mind on this but doubtless, I'll get lots of ideas from you. I really love the idea of the faux rooms behind the one you can see, I think I will use that because it really simplifies things, that as well as the stable loft which will have straw pallets to indicate servants sleeping quarters.
