Many on here have mentioned fixing it yourself but if you are not sure how an oil filter works that likely isn't going to happen. These cars very much are not for everyone and unfortunately when they get some years on them they are practically given away.......due to costs like this and people think they got a bargain but they simply got a never ending trail of bills. These pieces of fine engineering are built to drive until the coverage runs out on them then place them in the bin. Even with fixing them on your own the cost of parts alone is many times what most are purchasing them for. Just sad.
I would look over the list for things that I can repair myself as well as things that are not necessary. The CAT for example you could do a delete. The car is old enough that it is exempt in many states from emission & smog testing. Check your state. Shops will also charge way more just because it's a BMW and most shops hate working on them. You can save a lot of money learning to work on your car. That's what I've been doing. I've researched every repair I've needed and did it myself and I saved thousands of dollars. One example is a shop wanted $4k to replace my soft top. I did it myself for $400.
I see what you’re saying and you’re right. You make a good point. I am a little nervous to work on the car since I don’t want to risk breaking it more. With this, I’d rather have a shop fix it since a lot of them would fix it if they mess up the fix. That being said, I do want to learn more about how to work on my car but I think this is out of my pay grade
I have a 99. It seems like about every 2 years I'm putting several thousand in repairs into it. I'm sure the repairs have equaled my purchase price. A big part is Z3 parts are crazy expensive. I have way more into the car than it's worth, but its still a head turner and I like driving it. I have driven mine in the snow a lot. Being low, its quite stable, but I don't have many hill's either.
It’s crazy how much parts are. I was looking up replacement door handles are and they’re $700. I’m Ngl, I’m approaching the point where repairs are about to be the same as the purchase price of the car lol
Sadly soon in EU and Germany and many states of the USA the Bundesabgasbespaßungsverbotsverordnung BABVVO und Transporttourismusemissionsbeschränkungsbundesverordnung TEBBVO laws forbid the use of gas powered cars on all trips except business transportation and professional commutes.
I’m not gonna lie, I’m scared of the day that comes. But for now, all we can do is enjoy the time we have with our gas cars and enjoy them to the fullest
I see where you’re coming from but the thing is is that I tried to fix the car that way back in September and it didn’t do it so I took it to shop cause my fixes weren’t doing it and anything else would be beyond what I can do. Quite literally, it’s a skill issue lol
@@Phoenixette bro I didn’t know a thing about cars til I got the z. Pelican parts online have step by step instructions on any part that needs replacing. I even did a head gasket replacement. I was scared but if you follow the instructions it works out good. She got better mileage now than when new after a wee tune up too
I haven't heard of them before, thanks for telling me. I definitely need to do something with that since my fuel economy is bad. With a 4 cylinder, I'm getting around 20 mpgs, sometimes worse.
