Actually im.a drummer and athlete Musician is a loose term... Guitar, bass etc is more accurate..especially nowadays when you get people who don't even play an instrument and call themselves a musician .we only use that term for the tax man ..IRS in the USA..lol
Thanks for posting your review Sam. I would love to install this into my range rover. All need to do is buy a L322 now...🤣. Thanks again for another great video. Hope you both have a good weekend.👍
I’ve got an 2010 L320 RRS SC and I’m seriously considering having this done as I love the fact it looks so genuine and is totally integrated with no cords and dongles laying about , great vid thanks Sam! Mate get yourself an iPhone and ditch that cheap Chinese one as you have just discovered it will work far better with the system , you’ve answered your own question…. ( they are cheap for a reason) Thanks again mate , enjoy your channel!
great info, good follow up, I might have researched and executed an amplifier between this and speakers, "while you're in there" from personal experience. Nice work man.
Going to install the atoto s8 premium with a Sony Bluetooth amplifier this weekend, jbl 6.5’s in the door and JBL tire subwoofer in the back. So excited. Keep up the work 💪 these projects are awesome on the l322’s so worth it
My transit custom has apple I play…. And that has the same forwarding songs problem and some connection issues sometimes…. Think it’s not just your update add on unit… great video and well involved install 👍
I like an honest review. Thank you Sam, based on your install video and review I just ordered myself a unit for my 2012 L322 V8 petrol here in the USA. Shipping was an additional 36.99 pounds which seems a bit high but I was able to get the 25 pound bank holiday discount. Thanks again for all the videos. Great job!
I installed mine and love it! So nice to see the GPS with different colours to the factory unit and of course have up to date maps. Here in south Florida they keep adding roads. I think it is well worth the price and effort to do. Thanks again Sam for the review and install videos.
@@jhow3d688 I am okay with the sound, not the best but neither is the stock compared to newer equipment. I did adjust the audio settings through the CarPlay side of the unit to get what I thought was the best output. Sam shows that in his video. I am still very happy with it. There are times I use the maps through CarPlay and listen to SirusXM. No vocie navigation that way, but when heading up i95 150 plus miles you dont need voice navigation. I do listen to a lot of my ripped music from the iphone and still think it is worth it. I hope that is a help.
Great review Sam! I upgraded to Unique Audio CarPlay in my 2010 AB L322 a while ago. I have used the Invery unit until the Unique A upgrade. The sound quality is way better on the Invery than the Unique audio. iPhone 8 or later (Bluetooth 5.0) support connection of several bluetooth units. So I use the interface, maps, music control etc on the head unit and wheel controls while the actual audio is streamed via the Invery unit. Then you get the best sound quality while utilizing the Unique Audio upgrade. I also connect to the cars bluetooth, so calls goes though the original system since the mic quality is not the best on the Unique Audio system and then you don't need to pull the mic and wire up the A pillar. With the iPhone all connects automatically when you get in the car, no issues. The only issue I experience on the Unique Audio system is that it is unable to screen mirror (with cable) the iPhone properly, the picture is lagging by 1-2 sec. I tired all kinds of video, stream, downloaded, local videos etc. So the screen mirroring function is useless if you are using a iPhone and mirroring video. For mirroring the iPhone without sound it is works Ok.
@@jhow3d688 on your iPhone if you swipe down from the top of the screen, it should have a “now playing” box on the top right. If you tap the little CarPlay icon at the top right of this, you can choose which output you want the music coming from.
Great review, I have seen others use those second screens but if I was a owner I would opt for this head unit, as for the price its probably the going rates for head unit upgrades take my 18 plate evoque I would have to upgrade my unit to have CarPlay/andriod and those are about the same price, yes I can listen to music bluetooth on mine but would love CarPlay. Yours probably works well with iPhone purely the fact the phones are owned by apple , were android systems are run on different makes with the companies bloatware, this is the reason I was fed up with android phones you have 2yrs updates and thats it were iPhones are great for updates and works well with most products. I would invest into the cheapest iPhone, I still own my iPhone XR and still a great phone thats still updatable. On another point I still use a usb for my iPod music , and if others do the same try uploading songs to apple lossless codec you will then have better audio. I only occasionally use my phone when I won't to listen to my amazon music songs.
This is the point I've been making about androids for a while now, used to be a diehard android fan but you're completely right, they get no updates after a while and just don't have the longevity and reliability you get from an iPhone. People claim they're cheaper but you can buy a £800 iPhone and know in 4-5 years you'll still have the latest update whereas I've seen people go through 3 'cheaper' androids in that time, spending the equivalent, if not more. Also if you buy an adapter which turns the old iPod connector into a lightning cable that goes into your iPhone, it should work natively and the audio quality should be the same with the lossless files etc :)
The issue you mention with the steering wheel buttons not changing the track is probably an L322 issue and not the device you installed. My L322 does the exact same thing with the Bovee Bluetooth to iPod adapter. Works most of the time but not always
Great review Sam, watched both parts through thoroughly, as I am considering the same upgrade. I currently use the Bovee BT transceiver unit in the ipod connector, which usually works flawlessly. Anyways great video I look forward to the next
Amazing videos, Sam- thank you! I’m super close to buying one for my 2010 L322, and have been encouraged after browsing through all these comments (iPhone 14 quality, etc). My main question is: how is the phone call quality after the install? The phone quality for me via Bluetooth is horrible/static-y and I’m hoping that calls will run through CarPlay and be enhanced. Is this the case?
I'm considering buying an L322 4.4 TDV8 out of necessity. However, I just don't see the point of spending nearly £600 for the kit and probably another £2-300 for fitting. What does it add to my music experience, that I can't have with using something connected to the aux in or whatever. I won't buy Apple out of principle and so have a Samsung S20+ 5G and it has giga bites of storage for music / audiobooks / language lessons / whatever. Sometimes, good enough is good enough ;) Great channel by the way. Hope you're enjoying the fabulous scenery AROUND Galway. Galway itself is a soulless concrete smorgasborg of link roads, out of town shopping and never ending cookie cutter estates, with some of the worst peak traffic tailbacks on the island.
Cheers Mike! Yes I would definitely agree that this system isn't a necessity. I like the simplicity of hopping in the car with my phone remaining in my pocket, and being able to use maps and stream music straight off the screen, but it doesn't do anything my phone didn't do on its own previously. Galway City has its redeeming spots but yes in general, we avoid the traffic jams and stay out in the country. Looking forward to touring up and down the coast a bit more this Spring/Summer.
Very nice review Sam. It is probably a bit too rich for my blood, but it is nice to know something like this is available. I will probably go the other route you have with that Bluetooth adapter. Would you mind to reply with the details on that? I looked in the previous videos, but couldn’t find it right away.
Thank you so much, Sam for this quick review. Really good upgrade. I will consider ordering one for my l322. Not sure I will succeed with the order, because we are isolated now from the free world here in russia :(
Does the duel screen still work? And if so can you use the Android system from both seats or just the driver? Edit: Never mind, probably should of finished watching before chiming in haha great review.!
Hi great info on the product and yes my daughter said my old i phone four has a better sound than her brand new phone , but hers now, is not an i phone . Would any one know a fitting cost ? A great review . Are you still keeping a record of your spend £ details on this car ?
Nice review mate. My mate had the same trouble with his Android phone but his was Samsung. He tried my Iphone 11 and it worked perfectly. Get yourself back to Apple .
Good day very appreciative of your video. Thank you. This is exactly what I'm looking for. Question for you does the re-camera on the original range rover still work after upgrade
Great video. If you don’t mind I have a quick question about the functionality of the system. Can you listen to the radio or another audio source while using the phone for navigation and still hearing the spoken word to word navigation prompts through the cars stereo system?
His system works the same way as my Naviplus, least i think it does. I can watch my GMaps, while listening to DAB, the audio is streamed via BT, the connect to the apps is via WiFi. Your phone has to connect to both, but you can toggle between the two, if that makes sense.
I'm so close to buying this, your install video is super helpful but still not sure yet if I will tackle it myself it jot. Does it work seemlesly with the reverse camera or do you need to exit back to the main LR view?
It cuts back to the reverse camera automatically 👍 I switched to an iPhone (14 Plus) recently and it’s been absolutely flawless with it. Wireless CarPlay works perfectly and connects automatically every time I get in. All of the steering wheel controls work, and the audio quality is near perfect. Worlds away from the android auto experience.
@@SamsMotors Cheers Sam, Ive had mine fitted now and overall I am very happy but I noted a couple of issues after using it for a while, perhaps you have seen similar? Firstly, if I just jump in the car and set off, everything is golden but if its one of those load the wife and kids situation which takes a few minutes I see issues. In this situation, I think the ICE boots up when the car is unlocked, as I am loading the car, I think the ICE goes back to sleep. Then when I get in to drive off I get no Wireless Carplay, it'll work fine on the wire but it will not work over wireless, the second I remove the wire I lose carplay, if I then shut off the car for an extended period of time, all is well again. Another issue I have is with voice control when in google maps say, what happens when I press the mic icon is that the playing music mutes but then there is a delay of a few seconds before the "beep" is played to indicate you should start talking. When this delay ocurrs, google maps simply never hears what I am saying. Happens probably 5 times out of 10. Siri works perfectly every time though. I have reached out to unique-ad for comment but let me know if you have experienced similar
There are other options for these - but you might be best up and replacing the old screen for a new Android based display, as the old 2002 era screens aren’t up to much these days.
@@SamsMotorsthanks for this. Do you know one (or more) preferably in the EU where I could get one - live in NL. Have been looking for something since a few weeks (L322 is arriving this Saturday) but to no avail 😞. Thanks!
Good vid as always I’m not convinced at mo for what it costs then would have to pay to have instillation on top,so give it a miss for now see what else is out there first
I have a Naviplus, mine works seamlessly with both Apple, and Android, no issues with either, but the ecosystem with android, unchecked, will always throw up issues with phones likes Sam’s. My SWC works fine and seem less, and the sound / music is excellent. Either system launches the L322 into the current decade. A must have
Hi Sam, thanks for your videos (they´re great for me). Could you let me know if i connect my mobile phone by Bluetooth to this new system is y can make and received calls and use the steering controls? My L322 Bluetooth module does not work and I`m thinking on getting this devices if I can use it as a handsfree (of course I will use al the other functions but handsfree could be a +) Thank you
Hi, thanks! Yes, full telephone functionality comes onboard with CarPlay and Android auto. It just requires fitting an additional microphone in the car (supplied with the kit) but that is an easy fix.
Your issue could be the Xiaomi, great hardware but really bad software, the same is true for Huawei/OnePlus/Oppo. Android in general is flaky(using a google branded phone or samsung does seem a lot better than the experience with the Chinese brands), the apple carplay just works better under every circumstance. I've got the unit in my disco 3 and it works 100% of the time with the wheel controls, the carplay just works.
I recently changed from my Xiaomi android phone to a new iPhone 14 and the CarPlay side of this system has been sublime. Audio quality is excellent and it connects wirelessly automatically every time I hop in the car and never disconnects. No problems whatsoever. The android auto side of the system is functional via cable but could use some refinement. This is more of an Android problem than a head unit problem though.
For something that doesnt come with a screen etc, the price range is really off. They should revise their prices to 150-180 pounds and maybe then , members of the community would take that leap of faith of attempting to operate this system into their vehicles.
Dual view is the screen that shows a different image to the passenger than the driver. So it can show sat nav to the driver while the passenger watches TV.
Different system on the earlier cars - and your screen is a lot more basic. You might be better off replacing the whole unit with a new Android based unit.
On my iPhone 14 it’s adequate through the CarPlay system, nothing special though. It’s always going to be limited by the fact that it is passing all the audio through the aux input. Using the Bluetooth iPod adapter gives much nicer quality.
@@SamsMotors Thanks so much for being there and making this video. I was under the impression that the aux cord is actually a higher quality input than bluetooth, so you are helping me clear that up ahead of making this purchase decision. I am currently using the invery to my phone directly and agree that it doesnt sound too bad but I have never tried anything else. If you had to do this all over again would you select the integrated module like you have or get an external carplay monitor?
Don't want to sound negative but I'll keep my Xiaomi and $30 phone holder thanks. If any tech company with the skills had the business sense there would be FAR more money to be made by been able to supply nav updates to these vehicles
Not a 09 l322 I'll reserve my true audiophile endeavors for my home system.always Lp 45 analog... Don't think these guys will make one for an 09 ... Drummers unite .. We are the backbone..the only difference is we can do more than 10 push-ups whilst my band mates can hardly achieve 1
