The Lethal and Innovative 40mm Case Telescoped Cannon (CT40 Cannon for short) is at the core of British Army's AJAX vehicle. The UK has ordered more than 500 units of this weapon.
The CT40 can fire up to 200 rounds per minute, compared to 90 for the Rarden Autocannon mounted on the British Army's Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle.
The CT40 ammunition can address land, naval and aerial targets including emerging drone threats.

My new fav weapon. It's ridiculously advanced and potent for 40mm. After watching what 25mm Bushmasters have done to Tanks and APC's in Ukraine I've definitely changed views that a mid-size caliber is just way more versatile (bunkers / foxholes / tanks / drones w/ 75 degree inclination which is unheard of).

Take it easy you should look around at another British projects to see how good is this project

@@HayMaker-tv2dm The point is we should be self sustainable and we should have the capacity to produce them domestically in the event of a war we need to be able to. The initial order is 300-500 that number will increase as they will use that on Boxer as well IFV but I talking about bigger scope than that.

When war comes the UK will have a problem. It has very little strategic weapons manufacturing autonomy remaining. In a crisis it can't even organize PPE equipment, what hope complex weapons?

The telescopic ammunition is alleged to be better in terms of ammunition size and storage. The new mechanical-digital movement of the gun presents an opportunity for better accuracy on quick-moving targets or hitting many different targets in a short amount of time. When it comes to simple brutality, armour penetration, range, and firepower the Bofors 40mm L/70 gun still rules to roast with around 50% higher performance than the CT 40mm gun with 30-year-old ammunition and around 125% better performance with current experimental ammunition as well as twice the effective and more than twice the effective maximum range with comparable ammunition velocities. To be fair the Bofors L/70 gun commonly uses 40×365mmR cartridges whereas the CT 40mm gun uses 40×255MM Case Telescoped cartridges.
@jonny2954
@jonny2954 2 месяца назад
The 40 mm Bofors needs to be manually reloaded in eight round clips. Three of these ready rounds are at the gun for a total of 24 ready rounds with another 24 rounds in a carousel magazine. It cannot be used in a unmanned turret, thus compromising crew safety. 40 mm CT is supposed to be more space efficient, yet the AJAX only carries 65 ready rounds. Keep in mind these ready rounts are to be divided up about 50/50 into KE and HE/ABM. That's a really small amount. Most nations go with 30 mm these days, best ratio between lethality and ammunition capacity. A 30 mm Puma has 200 ready rounds.

I'm sorry but if you look at Sweden and then look at the UK, it's hard to understand that the UK can produce such advanced stuff as you do. It's the same with America, both the UK and USA look almost look like developing countries compared to the Nordic countries and a lot of European countries like Germany for example. Your roads and built quality of houses and just about everything is like traveling back in time compared to us.

Seeing what the 25mm Bushmaster cannon on the M2 Bradley can do to Russian tanks & AFV's since the first Gulf War onwards, you really wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of what this can do. I imagine DU ammunition will be introduced for it at some point too.

The cannon will be fitted on vehicles used for screening and recon tasks, however the infantry Boxer and Ajax are fitted with 50 calibre machine guns. The war in Ukraine is showing us that a good cannon is ideal to "Brass up" (Supress) an objective before the final infantry assault and to actually fight the vehicle. This cannon I understand will not be there. I would have been more impressed if the ammunition for this mid calibre cannon was programmable for defeating FPV drones and dug in infantry but no sign of this. Over £4 Billion spent on the programme with 44 vehicles delivered to date is shocking. The war in Ukraine is showing us just how high the attrition rate is for modern armoured vehicles and the days when we could afford to have key components manufactured overseas must be numbered. Barrels need replacing!

Ajax will never replace the CVRT they are two completely different platforms it’s like replacing your car with a lorry.
@immortallvulture
@immortallvulture 2 месяца назад
Doctrinally Ajax is replacing the cvrt. The problem with cvrt is that they were essentially unprotected. The aluminium armour could stop some shrapnel at best. Ajax is bigger but it’s also better protected and better armed, and its sensor suite will enable it to perform much better in the ISTAR role.
