I do not like the pto button makes it harder on you pto and every thing on I like a handle for the pto gives you smother starts on all things back there.
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I know that's why I don't use my 2001 6400 toke out the main gear box on my woods 15 ft brush hog very expensive mine 8 years old I keep it on my ford 8000 now.
this 1104 took some getting used to....even the clutch for driving isn't controlled by the operator...it's all kinda "push button" ....I prefer the feel of engaging a clutch slowly....my deere has this setup, it started leaking in the gearbox and ruined the clutches...JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree John deere after 2000 are junk to much electricians on them. Here where I live people have lost at least 20 tractors do to the electricians on them one person lost everything he had in a fire one tractor started it and the building all the others was in there with it.
I have the same pto engagement button on my Branson and after 2 years I haven’t had any issues. Replaced a few shear pins running my my bush hog and that’s about it.
I love Tools Tuesday as Josh explains the good and the bad of the equipment he uses. If you like this content, please subscribe as it is free and watch food Friday and much more. While you watch this and enjoy, please hit the like button on your way in/middle or out.
Josh, I'm from Selma, Alabama and there's a 73 year old company there called Bush Hog. My entire life I've called those things bush hogs, because the factory was right there in town. We never called them mowers! I do believe they make a batwing style mowing deck.
you can also use only 2 remotes by teeing the wing hoses to the 1 hose. it still raises the wings and depending on the tractor hydraulics at the same time.
When my dad and uncle had their dairy, the caterpillars we had had a pipe bracket to mount a "fishing pole " to hold up the hydraulic lines. " fishing pole " was just a piece of round stock in arc shape with springs to allow the hoses to hang up out of the way.
The reason they have single acting cylinders on the wings and rely on gravity to lower them is so that the wings will float. You could run an extra set of hoses to make them double acting but then you either would loose your floating wings or need remotes with float
Those chains are a life saver, literally. Mine is open (very old Bush Hog model) and have hit debris and have had it hit me in the leg and had parts of chopped limbs buzz by my head.
I was at the end of the season, put a cheap rattle can coat of paint on the underneath to help prevent rust, and lube everything very well to keep the water out. Even the PTO connection hole gets lubed.
People tell me that after clearing and cleaning, the hog is going to eventually get rid of undulations. Grass is growing so too late now so let's hope so. Just a quick question: how many hours of service would you estimate spending on it a year? Okay two: asides from jack stands, any other tools needed for servicing? Once again, thanks 🍻
Others have already pointed out that you can easily convert that to double acting cylinders...... but it is best to have remotes that float then! As for the ID on which hose is which..... lookup Outback Wraps. They have a simple color coded wrap that can also work with double acting hoses!
We had a Woods Batwing a 15' version, wasn't heavy duty enough for our taste. Replaced it with a Bush Hog brand 15' batwing style brush cutter, the Bush Hog brand is at least Twice as heavy as the Woods brand. we Own 3 Brush Hog brand brush cutters and No Woods at this time.
I thought you had the Cows for mowing the grass! Honest question from a city boy. Shouldn't you harvest the grass for the Cows? I would think you would save money.
cows do not eat every last bite of every plant in the pasture, there's a common misconception that every stick of green will be eaten by the cattle. "harvesting" the grass would require $50k or more worth of equipment, we're not harvesting....we clip the tops out of weeds and grasses after the cattle move through the pastures to control weed seeding and make the pastures look nicer...also to keep the grass in the growth phase v/s letting it seed out and go into senescence (no more growth) Here's a video for ya that explains it all...did this a few weeks back: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XyGIV-JNlkA.html Ya can't just "harvest" grass....we speak about this in the video also
Drive shaft = PTO (Power Take Off) as in transferring rotational power from the engine that is transferred to a farm implement or a non-self powered device. Just saying for those who may not know.😊
Josh, Cant you turn the jack sideways or does it only have one set of holes? Might be worth the effort to drill holes to mount it sideways to protect it from damage ... Nice mower 👍👋 Flip from Murphy NC
I have had them all and I finally settled in on the Bush-Whacker brand cutters. Woods has the name but they just seem to have lost their quality over the years. The Bush-Whacker cutters are built one notch heavier duty then everyone else it seems. Several states run them on their highway mowers and I have personally chewed up an 11R22.5 tire and wheel and the cutter never missed a beat. I thought someone had run off the road are hit me when I ran over it.
You should see the Schulte FX-742. 42 feet wide, weighs 18,000 lbs, 6,500 lb tongue weight and requires 250 PTO HP to run it. Now that's a rotary cutter!
Maybe a3/8 dia. cold roll rod, in the shape of an L, with a loop on the end, will hold a spring you can connect your hydraulic hoses to to keep them up above the arms… Just saying…
Better get those hoses out of the way. Yesterday I had my hoses held up with the zip ties and unfortunately one broke and got caught in the shaft destroyed both hoses, messed up the hydraulic connection on the tractor and took out the gearbox seal.
I personally think that John Deere makes a better batwing. Especially if you get the commercial grade with airbags instead of springs. There is other improvements with the commercial grade.
interesting....ya know, I've never had any issue with bouncing or the mower rebounding. Seems an air bag would almost be overkill....wonder what the longevity of the airbags is compared to this spring...honestly....I've never noticed the spring flexing at all
yep....in the agricultural world these are referred to as "airplane tires" that's about it This isn't aviation...it's agriculture my friend....there's no sense in arguing with me...I understand...and there's no sense in insulting me with sarcasm. I don't deserve to be talked down to or insulted over "tire terminology"......USAF veteran here...I know what a real pneumatic airplane tire is. Please don't be sarcastic and unkind to me.....I"M NOT TALKING ABOUT A TRUE AIRPLANE TIRE.....I"M TALKING AGRICULTURAL TERMINOLOGY .....no sense in standing on a soap box and talking to me like a child
Nice mower.. Try moving your lift drop arms to the furthest out holes that will allow the lift arms to be raised higher out of the path of the pto shaft.. but remember you've done that incase you smash your rear window lifting somthing higher than you normally wood.. stay safe 🏴..
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer think I ment in the way 🙄😆 but make sure your lift drop arms are as short as they can go.. some screw in some have pins hor adjustment.
