ABC4's Craig Wirth found some old film and pictures of downtown, and he said it has been packed with people and construction ever since the first walk-in surgery and dental office opened on Main Street in 1848.
I remember so well the Crossroads Mall and ZCMI center. Fernwood and Snelgroves ice cream shops. I haven't been to Salt Lake in many years and I wonder in the Beck apartments are still there along with the Hansen planitarium. I remember Grand Central and Sears too.
It seems SLC was really punching above its weight back in the early 1900s. I'm not sure there were many other big cities in the west between Missouri and California.
I loved the crossroads mall as teeb that was the mall we went to besides valley Fair Mall they were good malls before they turned unto stores that scammed customers and too expensive
I live downtown. I like it. Downtown is beautiful. People are definitely snobs in Utah. I had one man, maybe a week ago when I was walking to Trolley Square, actually said good morning. It was the first time I was actually spoken to that made my heart smile since living in Utah. I had heard before moving to Utah that it was like Idaho. I have news for you, it isn't. Except for the beauty. I love downtown at night. It's so beautiful. I love seeing the tower at Trolley Square lite up at night. It's even more beautiful at night when there's been a heavy snowstorm.
