I’ve been loc’d 4 years next month after fighting cancer. I didn’t think my hair would loc but I’m so proud of all 88 of them. I don’t retwist often or style. Just them breathe and love on them with oil/water…if you take care of them…they’ll grow
Very very happy for you and will pray for your continued well being and prosperity 💙🤞🏽. I’ve had dreads for 8 years. Luckily I’ve been blessed with great healthy and easy to take care of hair especially for a guy. I’ve always told myself idk what I’d do if I ever lost my hair cause I hated having short hair when I was younger plus my dreads been wit me through a lot lol. But yea I hope you’re still going strong
@mrsandeferg.. first congratulations on your journey beating cancer. 👏🏽👏🏽🤗..I'm a cancer survivor as well and now am on my loc journey as well..The best decision ever..stay blessed ❤️🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I think when wearing locs you need to embrace the natural nappiness that comes with it. The washing and keeping them clean are very important but over twisting, too many loc styles, pins and clips all play a part in hair breakage and thinning. Ive been growing my locs for 12 years and they fall down between my butt crack lol. But the one thing that helped keep my locs thick and long is at times freeforming. Just letting my locs breathe and be nappy for a month or two. And then I retwist with oil and water. Freeforming allows your hair to get nice and thick and you won't overwork your scalp. Now I know some ppl may have jobs wear the nappy look don't fly or you just like a cleaner look. But even if ur hair is fuzzy and nappy doesn't mean it can't look clean and neat. When I freeform, I brush my locs (I use a spray bottle of oil and water to soften my hair) everyday and wrap them in a bun style no pins. Please be careful to not overwork your locs especially if they are young locs. The length will come with time but the breakage and long term damage will last forever. Hair wraps, bands and scarves can help with the variety of looks you seek. Much love loc family!!
I do not see it as nappy. I see it as the naturalness of our hair. Bushy, bloom, budding like a beautiful plant. If I ever get the chance to have my hair back, I will not ruin it again. ❤❤❤❤❤
I never keep a loc style up for more than 2 weeks. It prevents the “boredom” and breakage. I’ll often use the remnants of the style for a second “look” i.e. rope twists to loc curls.
Exactly! I love that strategy as well. I think it’s brilliant to get the most out of the loc style and then transition it into another cool look. Thanks so much for being here and sharing! 💖
Your mom’s hair looks great it has really flourished! My hair is also thin so I know there is hope for me!!!😅 I am 10 months in and enjoying the process!!! Thanks Alexis!! I am just seeing this 10/21/24 so looking forward to more recent videos😊🥰👍🏾
Ma’s hair is on point! All hair locs. I have 3c/4a super soft and thin. My strands are thin but i have a lot of stands so people think i have thick hair. Another great video.
Hey gorgeous!!! Thanks for leaving Ma some love!!!!! 😍😍😍 I agree 100% that all hair locs!!! Your hair looks absolutely beautiful in your picture. Lovely smile as well! You radiate positivity 👑 keep shining!
@@candyjamaican I sure do. I have 2 motorcycles. Been riding since 1995. I have a GSXR 600 and a GSXR 750. I love to ride especially around the curves.
Please keep documenting her process. I have the exact same texture and its so hard to find content with people who have similar hair as mine. Im one month in to my journey and this helps a lot!!!
Your moms loc's are beautiful. I agree with you about getting tired of a style. Even though you have your everyday style, others can get boring. I recently celebrated my one year with some color and a style and I love it. I left my style in for a little over 2 weeks. It was definitely a struggle to moisturize my entire head.
Hey lovely lady! I’m so glad you can relate 😭💖🥳 congratulations on your one year loc anniversary!!!! And thanks for leaving ma some love. What style and color did you choose?
Omg this was good. I have learned since being locked I have become very tender headed lol and that I can only last with a style for so long. Thanks for sharing ❤️
Another amazing video!! I love you and your mother relationship It gives me hope that one day me and my mom could have that I got great news my 11 year old daughter joined the loc community with Instant Locs and she is in heaven!!! Alot of people told my daughter the same, her hair too thin, too soft but she didn't give up Her birthday is Monday (she will be the big 12) Peace and Blessings to you Queen
Hi lovely lady!!! Thank you so much for being here and sending so much love my way. It truly means more than you know! Congratulations to your daughter 😍😍🥳🥳🥳💖💖💖🎉 I’m sure her hair is beautiful! Please keep me posted on how her journey progresses… And happiest birthday to her!!!!
Only had my style in for a week and some change and I’m definitely the type to switch it up 24/7😅 . Definitely love and appreciate all of her hard work but I just can’t keep the same style for too long😅💕 .
Thin and soft hair does not look so bad as I thought it would. Mom's hair looks really nice and neat. I enjoy your video's, I enjoy your calming voice and the natural look. Much love.
Awww! Thank you so much for being here! We were really surprised by how full Ma’s hair has become. Such a blessing to see her this happy 😍🥳 I appreciate your kindness and encouragement tremendously. Thank you so much!
Hello beautiful! It’s so nice to hear that you use the same style. I’ll send your message to my mom. Please know we are wishing you a blessed and safe week as well!!! Thanks so much for all the love 💖💖💖
Beautiful locs. You look a lot like your Mom. A nice video as always. I can't say much about loc styles and/or loc maintenance by a professional as I have only got mine done once at a shop. I will be 2 years on 12 27 21 and would love to try getting mine done at a shop. Not a style just washed, conditioned and retwisted. Have a great week. Agape
Interesting.... Was just watching your first loc videos this afternoon and wondering when a new one is going to be posted.... Missed you. I'm sure you were busy with your classes. Always good to watch your videos.
Hey beautiful! Thank you so much for always leaving tons of encouragement. University life has been really busy for sure 💖 just trying to maintain a healthy balance of everything. Sending you all the love in the world as always!!!! 🥳
I get what you mean about getting tired of an elaborate style. I haven't had a style as of yet but I can see myself having the same experience. I prefer low maintenance styles like a pony tail or putting on a silk bandana. Elaborate styles are something that I would have for a special occasion like a wedding or something. Side question that is totally off topic. Do you have any thoughts on hair steaming locs? I'm having one delivered from Amazon today and I'm excited to start steaming every few weeks as a part of my self care. Just trying to see changes that others have noticed and what you do in addition to steaming for maximum benefits. Please excuse the novel length comment lol
Hey beautiful! I’m so happy you understand what I mean about elaborate styles. I think they’re beautiful but I’m such a simple girl LOL As far as steaming goes, I typically let my locs steam in the shower but I have not tried an actual hair steamer. Please keep me posted and let me know how it goes! If I decide to buy one I will definitely make a video about it. Sending you all the love in the world!!!
I’m getting my locs on the 2 of December, I’m most definitely mentally prepared for them, I’m actually so excited 🙃 i was watching your videos for like 3 weeks and I subscribed, i love your videos and your videos are very informative and you do a great job giving people tips!
Ma looks awesome!! I hope to officially start my loss this month after doing my own "trial run" lol. I'll be booking Gloria for sure, I know from your and ma's hair that it'll be worth the drive!
Hey gorgeous!!! Thanks for all the love. Let me know how your trial run goes LOL i’m so glad to hear you’ll be booking Gloria. Let me know how that turns out as well! I know you’ll be happy 😍😍😍
@@AlexisHarris I did my own two strand twists a few months ago and made it a goal to decide in October if I really wanted locs. Of course I took my hair down twice cuz I missed my fro but I missed my twists more 😂 I mainly had to decide if I would be okay with the amount of frizz my hair gets when I leave twists in for a long time. (I have majority 4c hair) Also I have no idea how to really do hair and I didn’t give myself a nice parting grid so I’m excited to get it professionally done, that way I can do the bare minimum of maintenance😜
When I pick a style I try to pick something that's going to give me two styles in 1. Two strand twist, when take them down you still have a wavy type style. How do you feel about curls?, Pipe cleaners or perm rods.
Hey love! I think that’s a beautiful strategy and it helps get the most out of one style. I love curls but I have not tried pipe cleaners yet. Maybe that will be my next video. Thanks so much for being here! Sending you lots of love 💖
I said the SAME THING. But, it always looks tighter than it feels! 😂😍 ma said it actually wasn’t tight… and she’s super sensitive to tightness so I trust her opinion ❤️ lol
I just started my locs and it has been two weeks in and I have been having some unraveling in the back and my hair is soft curly and fine and no matter what I do it unravels but my point is… is it to early to have a loc style? I wear my hair in a high ponytail during the day and take it out when I get home and put my bonnet on. But I would like to keep the style in for a bit longer would that be ok? Maybe for like 2 weeks until I get get my retwist. ☺️
Hey beautiful! Congratulations on your new journey. I’m so excited for you! 🥳💖👏🏾 I would personally caution against a loc style so early in your journey because your locs have not had time to form or mature. I don’t think putting a style in will mess anything up, I would just avoid manipulating my hair too much if possible. Totally up to you though! You should be fine either way 💖💖💖
Even though I didn't finish watching. I can say after having locs for over 12 years. The loctician shouldn't be using a comb at all to separate the locs and worse combing the unlocked roots. She's combing out the hair that's started to bud. All that excessive twisting and gel used in the video will also make your mom's locs even thinner and encourage build up too. I leave my locs uncovered in a hot steam when I take a shower. For short locs just clip them back. It also helps to keep my locs more moist and softer. This also makes my locs lock naturally fast and without effort. I t4 have very little unlocked hair at my roots which r just half an inch.
Nice video. Is it wrong to start comb coils by twisting to the left? I started my first set of locs with two strand twists then took them down within a month. I restarted with comb coils but twisted most of them to the left (counterclockwise) is that bad?
I see mommas eyes are red lol hope she ain't tenderheaded like me I will tell the loctitan do not do my hair fast take ur time I ain't no doll 💯 do my hair as if I'm your boyfriend
She has fine hair and doesn’t have that much strands on her head. It’s not damaged . Her density is low . People have high, medium, and low density meaning how many hair strands are on your head .
