Thanks for watching! I really enjoyed the CX-5 while I had it. What do you think of it? Here’s the full detailed review: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FDZYVYeFEoI.html

I just think that interior is very very dated looking already, especially for a newly updated model. And it seems noisy too. That's just two things that would eventually but quickly drive me crazy in a vehicle I had to drive every day. For the price, I'd rather get a CPO Audi or something.
@PrimeAutotainment

Thanks for the input! The interior seems to be a love or hate sort of thing from other comments on the last video lol. I would like it to be more practical. An Audi would be great...they’ve done some really nice things...I hope I can get my hands on one soon. Thanks for watching!

@@mrsj1417 I like the interior design because it's not trendy, but rather classy and somewhat timeless. I also have a Honda Element which is far more noisy and crude. All other reviews that I've read praise the 2019 for being very quite with near luxury quality interior. An Audi Q5, Bmw X3, or Porsche Macan with the same equipment cost $15k to $19k more.

My Wife and I purchased a CX5 in December 2018 the model is: 2019 CX5 Grand Touring we mainly bought it because it was the only vehicle we were able to find that was 100% Japanese Made. Owning a 2015 4 Runner previously that wasn’t, and was happy to trade it in. No complaints after owning it a little under 3 months now.

What a coincidence that you posted this today. My Mom bought one of these yesterday from us. She got a ‘17 Dark Blue Touring with 6,000 miles on it and loves it so far. I’m impressed by the overall quality feel and of course the driving experience. It is a bit tight on overall space, but perfect for what she needs. It did take a while to teach her the command controller though 😂. I agree 💯 with you on the fact that Mazda is so under appreciated in the market. I think if people would actually go look at them and drive them, they would realize they are great cars and much more upscale then a comparable Honda or Toyota.

Jonathan Schmidt, totally agree with your impressions abt Mazda in general...talking to the sales guys that is their biggest challenge is getting potential buyers to even consider the brand and go into their showrooms! However, once they test drive they become hooked! Unfortunately lots of people flock to the Honda’s and Toyota’s without even considering other brands...

tekz agreed. I’ve owned a few Mazda’s over the years (04 3 sedan, 04 3 hatch, 10 3 hatch, 12 6, and a 15 CX5). My sister has a 13 CX5 and my mom has 17 CX5 and had a 00 626. They have all been good cars. They drive better then the Honda’s and Toyota’s I’ve driven. I guess back in the day they were as reliable as the others, but now I think they are. Definitely better then the Honda’s now a days. They always seem to be favorites of journalists, but not the public.

@@greggf6831 I am actually really happy with it Gregg! Things I love: speed/torque, how it handles on the highway and in the rain, the luxurious leather interior, boot size. Things that are ok: display size, interior cabin space, size of front seats are slightly smaller vs other cars I have driven, blind spot indications are a little annoying. Things I don't like: short middle arm rest, awkward placement of cup holders below arm rest, small visors, multimedia delay on start, display is not really touch screen, nonsense apple play connectivity. UnseenSpirit technology ex. Lane keep assist, forward collision warning, better ride quality (more cushiony and airy), supposedly better road sound insulation although my 2019 cx5 is still a bit loud on road noise. Led headlights/tail lights. Honestly not much of a noticeable difference besides the screen in the dash (speedometer is now a screen instead of a fixed dial) but lacking so much customizebility, the speedometer can’t be changed to display anything else besides the speed! Very disappointing! Any way you go, good luck to you!

I bought my 2019 cx5 just over a year ago, and it’s the little things that make me not love it. I really thought I would, but after driving a larger suv for 12 years, the cargo space really bothers me. Yes, with the rear seats up, it is really small. Storage is horrible and the arm rest too small and too far back. There is no way to pull the drive side door closed if it is open all the way. I have to get out and pull it closer. But my biggest complaint is it sits too low . I have to use a cushion. Real leather seats and Im sitting on plastic. I’m guessingI will sell it before the 2nd anniversary. It’s pretty, and fun to drive on a highway, but highways don’t get visited everyday. Around town driving for me is not pleasant.

Agree... anything with a hatch is pretty usable. If you have a family taking road trips with lots of luggage then you’d probably need to go to the next class size though. I’d like to see Mazda make the new 6 a hatchback like the VW Arteon, Audi A5 and A7. The hatch makes the trunk space so much more accessible. I once fit 2 washer/dryer pedestals in an Acura RSX, and a large trash can from Home Depot another time... would not have been possible with a traditional trunk.

@@HomestarAK LMAO. None of the above, just hard to find a vehicle that doesn’t have a mixture of other country hands in the mix such as the 2015 Toyota 4 runner I traded in for the Mazda it was 90% Japanese Made and 10% Canadian. I started to have problems with it with less than 20,000. miles on it before trading it in. My previous 4 Runner was 100% Japanese Made and was a 1994 Toyota 4 Runner with over 600,000 miles on it before one piston went bad. I honestly should’ve kept it and never bought the 2015 Toyota 4 Runner and had the dealership disclosed to me that it wasn’t 100% made in Japan there was no way I would have bought it. My philosophy is simple when purchasing a vehicle, the maker will never build with the quality and integrity needed for longevity if it’s not built by the original location of the manufacturer it was designed to be built from.( Example) The Japanese maker in this case will point the finger at the faulty workmanship towards the Canadian builder even if it’s only 10%. Case closed !

These comments are about the 2020 version of the CX-5, which has additional sound deadening and a more compliant suspension. I'm a motorhead and bought this for the spouse, but not before sizing up the competition. In a nutshell, nothing from Japan competes with the CX-5 for design and driving experience. And that leaves the Germans. The second-from-the-top CX5, the Grand Touring Reserve, has the mandatory turbo engine (the normally aspirated one is underpowered), AWD, a leather interior, and a TON of convenience, driver assist, and safety features. Priced around $36,200, the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve absolutely holds its place among the German competition in the red-hot compact SUV segment. The competition from Mercedes, BMW, and Audi start at around $50,000. These high entry prices disguise the catastrophic residuals with German SUVs. I speak from experience. Last week I traded in a 2013 BMW X1, which was a money pit as are all German cars after warranty expires, and got a lousy $6100 trade-in allowance for it. The German SUVs (and all German cars) depreciate terribly, which is why people lease them for three years then toss them and grab a new one. There's only one problem with this strategy: leasing is expensive! But some people are willing to pay a premium for what they perceive as status. Obviously they know nothing about cars. Mazda builds the most driver-engaging cars in Japan. Not only are they fun to drive, their reliability is second to none. If you have a Mazda SUV to sell, no matter what its age, people will want it. But which one to get? The Grand Touring Reserve has everything the Signature has except Napa leather and an all-round cam -- neither of which is a big deal because the leather that comes with the GTR is good quality. You've got to get the turbo -- the normally aspirated engine is underpowered. And the GTR is entry for the turbo. The GTR is a few thousand more than the levels below it but its feature set, esp. the 2020 model, puts it in the $50k class with the German compact SUVs, which get ridiculously expensive with options. Definitely the GTR is the CX-5 to get! The reviewer is mostly correct. (I know, I have purchased a 2020 GTR.) I'd argue with him a bit about interior space. It's true the storage area in the rear is not as big as some of the competition, but more important to me, the rear seats fit two American adults comfortably, without apologies. What we have here is the most compact way to seat four American grown-ups in genuine comfort. And I would argue there is still adequate storage space out back. The reviewer is right about the inadequacy of the arm rests. But when you own one, you adapt and it is not a big deal. The lo-res backup camera is a tiny inconvenience. And I disagree with him about using the screen's controller. As with the arm rests, you get used to it and it is not an issue. Among the reviewer's many misses is the implementation of Apple CarPlay, which is excellent! And about remote start -- what is the point of it anyway? To burn even more fossil fuels for nothing? Unless you live in Alaska, it's pointless. The reviewer does not mention so many class-leading aspects of the GTR: the fantastic front seats, complete with heat AND ventilation. And, the incredible cruise control, which controls the throttle and brakes in stop-and-go freeway traffic. There's lane assist to keep you from drifting laterally as you talk on the superbly integrated iPhone. And above all that -- there is the driving experience. Though this SUV is insulated from the chaos of today's commuter traffic, it retrains its engagement with the road, something every motorhead ranks at the top of the desirability list. This is a compact SUV designed by car guys, not bean counters, and as such it fills the gap between Japanese utility and European exclusivity. To those of us who perceive SUVs as lacking in what we love about real cars, the CX-5 in Grand Touring Reserve trim is, I can personally endorse, a compact SUV that delivers the goods . . . including a superior driving experience.

A great review! Thank you so much. In my opinion, there are few issues CX5 more dislike than the others, besides your mentions: 1. Only a six-speed automatic is available for the CX-5. Compared to eight-speed automatic is standard on the others, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. 2. The other Brand's engines have been used the cast iron block for durability, while almost the CX-5’s engines use an aluminum block. Aluminum engine blocks are much more prone to warp and crack at high temperatures than cast iron.

audax989, I used to own a 2006 Mazda 5 Crossover and I found the Mazda to be one of the most reliable import brands on the market and Mazda seems to stand behind their vehicles. The Japanese at Mazda Corporation not only in Nagasaki and Hiroshima but also at their US Corporation take great pride in designing reliable and safe vehicles and although some designs seem dated they believe that simplicity is better than making a vehicle of austerity plagued with defects.

Coming from a 2014 Jeep Cherokee I am disappointed in the driving dynamics, particularly when it's gunned the initial torque steer until it changes to all wheel drive is quite noticeable. It does not feel as solid on the road as the Cherokee either. But I came for the extra power, it's a bit throttle sensitive when moving away from a stop and I'd prefer more power up the rev range a bit however there is zero turbo lag, power is instantaneous. No doubt though Mazda have done a great job, it's a keeper.

@Wally Win I'm in the same boat. I'm not sure which to buy. The CR-V EX or the CX-5 Touring. The CX is small and the navigation screen is horrible. And, as the video states, no car starter unless you add the mobile app and pay $65/yr. Plus, the CR-V has lane steering assist. But the CR-V has cloth seats and the CX-5 a better sound system and engine.
@winbornew
@winbornew 5 лет назад
@@brianskibo5886 Right! I love the CX-5 interior but CR-V EX offers some great features and has plenty of room for my height. I saw that Honda CR-V's were having a fuel leak in the oil system. @@winbornew I was told they fixed the oil problem and no problem has been found at my dealership. But that could be dealer talk. I'm only 5'10 so height isn't an issue, but sometimes I travel and I lay down in the cargo area so that may cause a problem Haha. Cloth seating makes me nervous in the Honda though. I have them at $27,239. I have Mazda around the same price with the Bose add-on, remote start, power liftgate, moonroof, but the insurance will be $550/yr more and I'll have to travel 30 minutes for service. And the salesman just lied about the Mazda getting better milage. It doesn't so that is a turnoff.

I currently drive a 2001 Ford Focus so I'm not too concerned about space since ANYTHING is better than what I drive now haha. The CR-V however just seems to bulky and not as stylish.

Maybe in California it’s not wanted..and of course it’s not a necesssity but when temperatures consistently rise over 100 degrees and below zero degrees with ultra thick ice and frost on the windows...it is much appreciated, although a serious waste of gas unfortunately There are several other 2 row crossovers that outsell the Cx-5 by a large margin. The mid-level Touring model of the CX-5 is nice- a lot of features for the money, and Consumer Reports magazine survey results give it the highest reliability rating, like the Mazda 6. We are much happier with the Pirelli Scorpion Verde tires, compared to the stock tires for the 2013 and 2015 CX-5. Our 2018 CX-5 original tires feel better. The Touring model back-up camera is simpler and better than the 360 camera. The best part for our test drives compared to others is the steering feel and how it corners.

I’ve heard that too. Of the three vehicles where Mazda uses their 2.5L Turbo (in the US), its application in the CX-5 is probably the best. In the Mazda6 it works well but the competition from the 2.0L Accord and the V6 Camry is especially tough. Likewise, in the CX-9 the availability of naturally aspirated V6 engines from almost every other manufacturer makes it use in a two ton vehicle at least questionable. But despite its numerous strong points, the CX-5 suffers from the same problem as its Mazda stablemates. The "U" in a CUV stands for "utility." And as Nolan points out, the interior space in the CX-5 is tiny compared to its rivals. At 59.6 cubic feet of overall cargo space it has 25% less cargo space than a CRV. It provides only about 6 cubic feet more cargo space than a VW Golf. And the Golf is a foot shorter. Looking for a vehicle with the looks but lacking the "utility" of a compact crossover? The CX-5 is perfect.

Had better gas mileage and full navigation. This 2018 has less road noise but is very sluggish accelerating from a stand still. Operation of various settings is more complicated. The radio comes on without touching anything and the doors lock on their own when I am just sitting in the car, which can be quite annoying if you bump something or open a door. The alarm comes on. Hey Jim, sorry for the late response. Even though I complained about those things...they weren’t bad enough to deter me from recommending this vehicle. They certainly annoyed me at times but not quite that much. It’s kind of limiting to find a sporty compact one...but I really liked the Acura RDX drive and handling. The Cadillac XT4 drives well but seems overpriced. Possibly the Audi Q5 or SQ5 if you’d spend more for quite a bit more performance. At the CX-5 price point though...it’s hard to beat unless you’d settle for less performance. If you haven’t driven one yet, I’d recommend trying a long test drive or even taking one home for the night to be sure it would be ok for your arm and ergonomics. Good luck with your Rotator Cuff repair! Recently we added an OT to the staff and they’ve been getting most of our shoulder patients which stinks 😕

This or Jeep Cherokee/grand Cherokee?? I’m coming up on end of my lease and looking into this or the jeeps

Dang I honestly haven’t driven either of those. I’d take this over the Cherokee, but the Grand Cherokee is another story. Wish I could say more! It seems really nice though

@@PrimeAutotainment If you didn't drive a Cherokee before how do you know that you would take Mazda 1st. Grand Cherokee are amazing buddy, plenty of space at the front & the back.Especially leg room which Mazda doesn't have and that is very Important. And other things It would be a novel to write it here Grand Ch. Is very good you can't compare with Mazda cause Grand is on another level. Also on 5:42 when you turning the steering wheel watch how you hit the Indicator that's not very good made by Mazda isn't. Mazda needs to grove up to get where the pretty much other SUV are.

$39k for the turbo? No thanks, I will get an Acura for that kind of money.

You can get a comparably equipped RDX for $40k? That certainly is a good deal.
