Oh boy, as a new businesses owner, I've run into a problem that I really should have anticipated..... Supply issues. I ordered more bulk of the wax that I use and am looking for backup waxes and suppliers now. Plenty of jars, plenty of wicks and oils... No wax. 😬😬😬😥😥 I haven't made a sale from my backpack in about a week now. 🎒 Major oof, right in the busy season. How I am working around it in the meantime is working on other products so I can setup some kind of a launch online very soon. I've been hesitant to post a video because I've been really down on myself about it, honestly. 😞 I'll work to post this weekend, anyway. I look forward to seeing anyone who watches and thank you for those of you who will be there when I post and for anyone reading. I'm happy to see your feeling better Erica. ☺️ Oh! RU-vid has a solution for the talking portion, in the options section, the speed of the video can be slowed down or sped up. To fit anyone's needs. ☺️ Thanks again for posting and I really enjoy your videos and you always manage to touch key points. I forget that I'm my own boss sometimes and actually have a say in what goes. OMG! You mentioned me! 😨😅Hi lol! Yes that is exactly how I am growing! I literally started selling with about 20candles. I am now at about 120 jars and scaling to 500-1000 candles on hand at all times. I want to launch online ASAP! It is mostly growing on itself, but I do need to throw a little more in on my end to keep my customers happy, with certain things, such as FO. I've had 9 scents and I want another 12 scents for the holidays and for my company in general. Do not be afraid to start. People will love your candles and I have people coming back because they KNOW the work I put in and how passionate I am about this course in life. You've hit so many key points in your video as usual and I felt the same about when I started, but i still have customers and returning customers, who understand how starting a business is and still want my products even though I have hit snags. Okay. I wrote a book. 📚 Have a great day everyone and see you again soon!

First, thank you, Erica for always being so professional and easy to listen to. Also, when it comes to the market being oversaturated by candlemakers, no it's not. I follow so many candle businesses on Tik Tok and IG and many have closed down since 2020. Don't be afraid. Every consumer wants something different. It's up to you to get their attention. I agree with Erica 100%. Thank you girly!

I am new here this week. I have all of my supplies, have begun creating candles and wax melts to add to an array of items I sell. I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis since I was 30, and I am always looking for a way to support myself. I too have invested, and reinvested. I cannot thank you enough for being so open and transparent, discussing THE most important (as well as most curious) topics. You have reinforced my choices I have already made by watching your videos, as well as taught me SO much already. 5 videos in and I joined your channel. Thanks much, I am grateful for your honesty, dedication, and willingness to share real life information. ALL OF IT. Not just enough, you go above and beyond.

Stumbled across your channel today and your videos have been so helpful with coming to realizations about myself, my goals, what's stopping me from pursuing them and the steps I should take to make that a reality. I have become so overwhelmed with decision making and all the options out there that I've just become crippled and unable to move forward. But thanks to you I am able to move forward with a clear goal, less stress and the comfort of knowing that I don't have to do it all at once. I can take my time, make one decision at a time and slowly work towards where I want to be.

Thanks for the great video! One of the things I loved when I first was getting all my equipment to begin making and testing candles was ordering from other small business to get inspiration, ideas of what to do, observe how others ship/package/present their products. The issue now is that I just love everyone’s ideas and want to support and I KNOW I’ve gotten enough smal business inspiration through this and should really begin investing the money I use to support these amazing candle business into my own! I’m currently in my scents testing phase to decide which scents to have in my line and although it’s fun, it can get a little tiresome having to wait for them to properly cure and then conduct the actual tests but I know this is the way!

Carry candles with you. Or wax melts, or both. Word of mouth is a very powerful tool. Trust me on this. Talk about it. Talk about it more, then let the products speak for themselves. Customers will return for a quality product at a fair price and even refer you to their family members. Look at online marketing as an extension of the rule. The business begins with you and with your local community. Like planting a seed and nurturing it to grow. You got this.

After I started my vegan pastry business in Hong Kong about 2 years, I would like to stop and start a candle business. As well as testing candle, I have to test every cake before launch. It is super stressful. (Especially self taught watching books and RU-vid to Learn.) Also cake is hard to transport they are easy to fall apart and melt! And I used 7+ hrs for making a cake because I have to wash tons of utensils also have a big cleaning after it. The product price is only times 3 of the cost. 😂 Because cake can’t sell too expensive not much people will buy it! And the oven and Fridge cost money too. Also vegan cake is very hard to storage up two days because the frosting will cracks like hell. The most important thing is selling food needs license and is super annoying/ pricey. I am done with all this bs. Making candle seems can be avoid all problems above. But I know there’s still a problem when start a candle business, so I watch your videos. Even I am not start yet because I still have tons of baking ingredients haven’t been used. But Your channel helps me a lot when I wanted to start a candle business. Thank you Erica. 🙏🏻☘️ really curious on why people would like to stop. That’s a good topic. 😊

I've been thinking about it, have purchased materials and practised and tested candles for about 6 months, but what's stopping me is hesitation and fear. Fear that I'm not going to do well and that my products are not going to sell or no one will want them. I struggle with marketing and promoting, but there's also so little information about starting your business and the legal stuff in Australia which is where im from. The more videos and tutorials I watch, the more I think international makers have it easier because there's just more information and support. Making the candles is fun and easy. It's the actual business side that scares me because there's just not enough information, and that makes me hesitate and doubt myself. It's been going on for half the year and I just don't know how I can take that first step and start. I've joined so many Facebook groups and did a lot of research, but it just never seems like I'm ready or know exactly what I'm doing 😭

With everything that was going on with Coco83 wax in 2020 and 2021, i got discouraged and didnt know what to do and i was afraid if i was doing the right thing, the worst I purchased jars and fragrant from different sellers and couldn't decide which Jar or FO to choose. finally 2 months ago i decided to give it a go again, i am re-testing my scents and decided to launch with 4 scents. I am saving now to launch when i am ready. Your video came at the right moment.

I’ve been experiencing block recently. Haven’t made a candle for about 2 weeks. Started in May and made about 80 candles so far. I find this video relatable. It’s helpful. My biggest issue have now been the system of making test candles. I’ve got about 6 scents going. Different wicks, different fragrance oils, different fo amounts. I find I’m just in a haze, don’t know what I’ve made, what has worked what hasn’t, where I should go from here. Because I’m using 464, the curing time is making it difficult to work out one scent at a time which would probably make things easier. If you have any tips I would be one big ear 👂

The number 1 thing thats holding me back from starting a candle business is the worry of being sued if a candle burns someone's house down. However, I do feel like most candle fires are started because of user negligence. Lets say that happens and you do have an LLC, but they are able to go after your personal assets. The second thing thats holding me back is I can't figure out why someone would want to buy a candle from my business that cost $30 instead of one for $15 some where else. Im ready to order everything for the testing process, but those 2 things are whats holding my back. Im not trying to be negative, Im just being honest.
@andreaatthesassyplannerco5952
What’s stopped me is fragrances 🙈 I’ve bought so many now but I dont really ‘love’ any, I’ve mastered the wax and wicks but not a fragrance set I love! I’ve used the most popular suppliers in the U.K. (that I know of) and none blow me away. Maybe I’m too fussy 😂 but I just think to when I smell the scents in large stores with big selections to sniff and I’m comparing to how I feel when I smell those! I feel I can’t sell something I wouldn’t buy myself Xx thanks for the vids

And as far as the fragrances, people don't realize how easy it is..Me, I bought from Aztec Candles and they are good as far as free fragrances. I always buy the fragrance i like, i get for free other different fragrances , and now i have tons of fragrance, if the 1or 2 oz bottles give me enough for 1 or candles , that's fine is 1 or 2 candles in inventory...

You have mentioned about testing candles, wicks, soys, jars, etc. At this point I know have to be an important step into the business. But my question is: Since all of you have tested and recommend the wax type, the FO ratios, the temperatures and all that valued information. Can I bypass the testing part at the biggining? I know you recommend testing for a bunch of important reasons, and ofcourse am planning to do it, but can I relay on all the formulas and experience you and all others candle makers have? Please, I greatly apprecite your pront answer to my question. Sincerely your, Marcos. PD: Pardon my English.

I'm having trouble with whether I need an EIN number or can I just start on shopify and get one after? I hope you can help me with this question. Thank you Erica!

You’ll need a EIN number regardless. They are free to get, and it’s pretty easy

@@jhughes9607 Thank you for that information! Could I start with just having sole proprietorship versus an LLC?

I got my LLC. It's way better than sole. You would have to get a llc if you ever hired anyone at some point.

@@jhughes9607 Yes, I should really think about getting one. If I just stick to sole pro I would need to get my EIN for tax purposes right?

@@nathalydealba you wouldn’t need an EIN as a sole prop unless you had employees (or if you didn’t want to be giving out your SS#). Your tax ID as a sole prop is your social security number. I’m not a CPA though so this is just what I’ve learned from my experience :)
