I put your calendar somewhere near where my husband will use it...what was I thinking? He doesn't garden and can use ANY calendar (or his phone, but he's a Luddite). I'll move the calendar to somewhere I can see it every day! 💚
The calendar is like a text and photo summary of the Farmer's Almanac (but accurate!) . Shows a ton of fine print info, including that printed on the back of last month's calendar page. Hey, still a lot of 2024 gardening left.
Too late in southeastern 9+10 for cornflowers, foxglove, flax, hollyhocks and many others - we have to plant those in the fall for spring bloom and they burn up by May/June. The marine layer in San Diego gives y'all a lot more leeway!
The calendar is so comprehensive and takes the guesswork out of planting times. Had I had this years ago, I would have saved myself so much money, time and heartache! I love that I can reuse the calendar every year as well!
Great video! Is there a reason why it’s not recommended to direct sow tomato and pepper seeds in zones 9/10? I’d think the season is long enough for it!
The season is definitely long enough, buuuuut... Both (ESPECIALLY peppers) need warm temps to germinate, and cold night outside can slow that process down. Also, they don't really get transplant shock, so you can get them big enough before putting them into the ground. Also, keeping soil moist and then protecting seedlings from pests can be a challenge.
All great points! Thanks for your reply! I might still experiment with direct sowing for fun (I’m in 9b, also in CA). I already have other tomatoes and peppers growing outside, which I started indoors, so it won’t be a huge loss if they fail.
