This holiday shopping season, environmental groups are urging consumers to avoid fast-fashion items, which are cheaper items that may only be wearable a few times before falling apart. In Chile, a massive pile of used clothing from around the world keeps growing, impacting local communities and the environment. CBS News' Manuel Bojorquez has more, including a first-hand look.

Shop at thrift stores. Buying new items adds to the problem. cut up old clothes and make them into quilts or wall hangings or curtains. they can be repurposed in so many ways. items can be repaired and used again. We all need to work on this problem

Easy fix, they should require fast fashion to be made from entirely organic materials. That way they will degrade safely into the environment.

Both of the on site reporters touched the land fill clothes with their bare hands. Then the woman with the tight pants wiped tears off her face without washing her hands. It's a good idea to wear gloves and safety equipment when dealing with raw garbage. We need to be more responsible with clothing.

People are the streets of ANY countries could use ALL OF THE CLOTHES! Don't throw them out! DONATE them or drop them off at a local store, charity center! They take it and sale it to SOMEONE who needs it more then you do!

Fast fashion and single use items should be banned everywhere. Why not produce things that can be reused or repurposed? And stop buying these items. I would rather buy less, buy higher quality, and save more money in the long run.

Donated as recycled material,we hope groups of knitters who undue an items to make hats,mitts socks for free,recycled bags,and bags,ect.return to us. Kindness goes a long way.

Our boss takes little things and makes amazing art and displays,wall hanging and we raise money that way. We recycle paper and plastic also.

I work in a thrift shop in Canada..we depend on these items for our shop to provide for the homeless,elderly,refugees,and new immagrants or single mothers,and addicts and mentally I'll Everything goes somewhere when we can't use it. Salvation army,scrap metal,ect ect.
