Here's why ELECTRIC CARS will EVentually be ILLEGAL in EVERY Country! 

My job is to travel around the country in an EV, testing the EV charging stations. I spent ~60 hrs a week driving various EVs in various conditions, in various terrain and climates and situations, over different ranges. EVs are dangerous, expensive toys. For your own safety, do not relegate your transportation needs exclusively to an EV. Freezing temperatures kill their battery life, which translates to a shrunken "gas tank." Many modern gasoline vehicles are more energy efficient than EVs and are cheaper to refuel per mile, and modern gas cars have very clean emissions. Everything you have hear about EVs from mainstream sources is ADVERTISING. They will not tell you that minor repairs and maintenance can only be done at limited locations and will cost many times more than real cars. Also, any time you plug into a fast-charging station, all of that EV's data (the owner's data) is uploaded and recorded onto the station's owner's network, and the charging cables can even be locked down onto the vehicle, preventing it from leaving.

Touch screens require that you look at the screen to operate a function, Traditional tactile switches can be reached and located and operated by muscle memory alone. Touch screens in cars are dangerous.

I'm a retired electrical engineers and many years ago even when I installed fairly simple control systems people still had problems with them and basically just wanted a switch because they quickly forgot how to use them and also got bored. I then coined the phrase "that its no use installing fully automatic systems when we only have semi automatic people" And yes I'm not an EV lover because I understand electrical systems and there drawbacks.

So, I have a degree in electronics (‘85) and been on the equipment side of the automotive industry since. I have been saying for two decades, “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should”! Things have gone way beyond ridiculous!! 😐

Even if I won an all electric vehicle in a contest &/or lottery, I’d sell it right off the bat!

As an electronics tech fixing things most of my life, I am not convinced these cars will last as long as gas powered ones, simply due to the electronic side. All things software and electronic are shortly lived and will be in the landfill as they are not supported in a few years. How many reading this are still using a phone or pc that is more then a few years old?

I have said from day one that there will always be gasoline powered vehicles. This dream of eventually getting rid of all gasoline powered vehicles is absolutely ridiculous, its never going to happen.

You are correct, operating the vehicle has now become a full time distraction.

All new vehicles are basically a pile of rubbish, not worth buying!!

Car designers spent years coming up with controls that you could recognize and adjust by feel and these touch screens have tossed all of that work into a dumpster and set fire to it.

Far too many gimmicks, people want to get in their car and f*** off to where they are going without all this pretentious bullsh*t!

The screen madness isn't only in electric cars, most new cars suffer from it.

They take the most ecologically destructive monstrosity of a vehicle with no infrastructure for refueling from burnt coal and say *it's for the planet*. Oh and by the way, it might catch fire in your garage attached home with you in it. If it wasn't so sinister it would be hilarious.

Electric vehicles are a rip off, the batteries are unreliable, expensive to replace and are useless to people who drive long distances. Electricity is every bit as expensive as petrol and will get worse if it manages to get a monopoly on the roads. Electricity is not environmentally friendly because most of it comes from gas and coal due to maintenance costs of the environmentally friendly options being prohibitively expensive and at least a decade away from competitive. The only truly potentially optimal electricity source is nuclear but the fear of nuclear limits it’s growth to a crawl.

I agree those large screens are a needless hassle when a normal vent slider does it quicker and safer.

No way... I would never ever allow someone to plug an EV into my house. A single EV draws as much power as 15 homes with a fast charge of about 1 to 2 hours. 24 hours of charging would require more power than I'm going to freely give anyone. Better have $300 on hand or the answer will forever be "NO!" Sorry, but those batteries are just way too expensive to charge!

We need SIMPLE cars.

EV fires in a parking ramp destroyed the whole complex. EV fires in shipping boats sinks to new depths. House fires caused by EV charging overnight. Im sticking with my gas car. More gas stations within 20 miles. Vs electric charging station, only ONE.

This has been my argument with evs for years there is absolutely NO common sense at all gone into these things

I am working for a firm not far from you (just before jct 28). we drive trucks that are similar with the screens, and to make it even more dangerous, we drive with camera's instead of mirrors. And these are 44ton trucks (articulated). If it rains you can't see out of them. They have become less safe. In previous truck i could touch every button without looking and know what they where for, but you can't do this on a screen. Roll on more deadly accidents with trucks. The future is not looking bright.

Making something simple and safe into something complicated and unsafe while having the delusion of being smart and more advanced is a dangerous form of stupidity.

"And that is so if you're taken by surprise and you run out of electricity and you are near somebody's home..." ...because complete strangers are going to just let you plug into their home and give you a place to stay for 24 hours...

The same argument for electronic handbrakes and stop-start. Solutions to non existant problems.

As someone that hasn't owned a car made after 2003, that car looks like a pain in the rear.

Crashes in the U.S. have skyrocketed as more and more vehicles require taking your eyes off the road for basic functions like headlights, wipers, and HVAC.

Basically you’re sitting in a huge mobile phone and in the UK using your phone wile driving is illegal. Can you imagine spending £120’000 on a car, leaving in the morning to work, thinking you are saving the environment and end up getting pulled over several times in that day by the police for using your screen to clear the wind screen and losing your licence. Good day out. 😂🤣

I don’t even have an EV and I hate all the unnecessary tech in it. Haven’t even owned my 2023 Tucson for 6 months and already want to get rid of it. I would rather have a 10 year old car with 100k miles and a real key!

Over-engineered nightmare. It's done because they can, not because it's needed.

As much as i’m a EV sceptic the screen issues isn’t just restricted to them. It’s all modern cars - the higher the spec the more onboard screens a toys you get. In some cars where the dash has been replaced by a screen it’s actually safer in some aspects - such as having the sat nav map just in front of you. But agreed- in many cases it’s just too distracting and dangerous.

I like quiet electric cars for local mobility. But I agree 100% that complex touch screens should be banned.

I fully agree with you Lee, I ride a motorcycle and am in fear of my life every time I go out on it. The number of times I see arseholes texting and Facebooking while driving is unbelievable, they just do not learn.

There was a time when Porsche frowned upon cupholders, because Ferdinand felt anything that distracted the driver from driving fast was unnecessary. Sadly, Porsche has fogotten the enthusiasts that built the brand, and decided it's more important to appeal to the masses.

Have a couple of persons who have ev’s living in the neighbourhood, they won’t park the vehicles inside their garage , when asked they remarked “ in case of the car catching fire “ lunacy!🇦🇺😩👍

Not to include, screens cost more to replace once damaged. It's part of keeping customers at the dealer for repair services. You'll only be able to purchase the parts from the dealership or manufacturer.

I hope EV cars don’t go away because I created a business in my pick up truck with a diesel generator in the back to cruise up and down the highway and give charges to stranded EV vehicles… Business is good! Especially when it’s -30c 👍

I had a family member who spoke endlessly about getting an EV and made a very big deal about his actual purchase thereof, but the funny thing is, once he bought it, he never mentioned it again. I don't think he had it very long before getting rid of it.

I remember how often I hear people say BIG OIL kept electric cars from taking over at the beginning of the 20th Century. But here we are near the end of 2023, we're experienced absolutely why electric vehicles never stood a chance and sadly still don't stand a chance.

Add to the mix the fact that in a severe collision with an ICE car, the EV’s weight will really jeopardize occupants in the ICE car. Insurance risks for collisions should be pooled strictly from other EVS since many of them are totaled disproportionately due to battery concerns.

Lithium is a rare metal and the cost to produce the Electric Batteries is Prohibitive and the in the hotter climates you have cars catching on fire and in the colder Northern Climates holding a charge is much less range -

Technology was supposed to make life easier... but instead, it has been used to make manufacturing cheaper, increasing to profit margins, while making easy tasks more complicated 😅😅😅

The digital controls issue is a modern car problem regardless of drive train type.

Yes, electric cars should be made illegal! Not only poorly designed display, but a real hazard otherwise. When they catch on fire , the batteries give off hazardous gases which can explode. Hybrids are even worse because they have the dangerous batteries, they also have gas tanks which can catch on fire after the batteries catch on fire: a double whammy.

I can admire the engineering expertise that has gone into producing such a vehicle. However in my opinion the main reason of a car is to get its occupants safely and quickly from point a to point b. If it cannot manage both its flawed.

Right, they've banned touching hand held phones but allowed EV manufacturers to install too much touch screen technologies in those cars! Its madness, governments and manufacturers have not thought it through! Do governments expect EV drivers to have to stop, pull up their brakes in order to adjust their touch screens? Isn't that supposed to be illegal? It simply won't work!

in Germany a man got found guilty of causing an accident because he was messing with one of those screens to turn on his wipers it was a Tesla

I agree on the screen vs manual controls madness. The physical button/lever/dial/whatever had one very important function, tactile feedbak. That means you didnt need to LOOK at the thing but just feel and use muscle memory to adjust.

Like many of a certain age, I need glasses for reading but not for driving. EV cars and all these digital screens are impossible for us. So in the middle of driving, I need to pull over to put my glasses on so that I can alter the screen for whatever purpose - air con, settings, etc., etc.

Well said Lee, I don't have an EV, but I do have 2 Peugeot 308's. The older one has dials to easily set the temperature and power of the blowers. The newer Peugeot has a central menu system where I have to navigate to the the temperature controls. One thing to consider, what happens if the software fails, you will lose ALL control.

The technology found in modern cars isn't specifically related to the Electric Car concept. So, your claim connecting this technology to electric cars is incorrect. Both petrol cars and electric ones share this technology. I absolutely agree the new tech is sooo overkill and appreciate the straightforwardness of simple knobs.

I hope you read your comments Mac, have you ever had a EMF tester in your car to see the levels of radiation that is emitted from the batteries ? a guy in the states did it and the scale was off the wall, apparently we had electric cars/scooters/buses/trucks etc many yrs ago - guess why they stopped using them ? hundreds were getting cancer from the radiation levels.

My petrol car's climate controls are on a screen. Modern car issue, not an EV issue.

So the issue is not the EV itself but how the manufacturer has forced us to interface with it. An extra screen for extra functionality is not an issue, but putting every setting that could be a nob is. I don't drive and I saw this coming, physical buttons are superior to digital buttons.

The one major hurdle at least in the USA where are all these transmission lines, power plants, and charging stations going to come from. Electricity at many stations already cost exceed gas

To be fair, this concept of "everything electronically controlled" predates EVs. I remember renting a BMW 7 series in Germany about 20 years ago, and we couldn't figure out how to turn on the heat or lights without getting the language (Sprache) to English. I told my colleague, "I'll be the pilot, and you be the flight engineer". :)

Well I have a friend who pretty high up in the Insurance industry, And theres allot of discussions on electric cars and the issues surrounding them after accidents and spontanious fires..

I grew up in Manitoba, Canada, and it was not uncommon to come outside in the morning to an ice block, which would be your car. You brush off the snow, scrape the windows, and then sit in it for half an hour while it warms up to defrost it. And seeing as it was manual transmission it would whine as the oil would never lubricate enough to allow shifting for 10 miles. A person I watched on YT has a Tesla in Manitoba, and they have, while charging, used battery heat to warm up the interior and clear windows; it was a nice feature. Still, he can not run this feature on the car while driving because it drastically depletes his battery. He shared a website that recommended the best winter clothing to wear so you did not have to use any defrost which depletes his range. My Great-grandfather was born when they used horses for farming, he would hitch up the team in the morning to the wagon and drive them into town. The idea around shifting energy sources is to advance, not retract in prosperity; EVs are all bells and whistles but a step backward.

Using a touchscreen to adjust windshield wiper speed is already illegal in Germany. All of the buttons are coming back.

My car is so old that the heater / air conditioner / vents are operated by three simple knobs in the middle of the dash. After driving this car for over 15 years, I can operate these knobs and change settings on the go without even taking my eyes off the road, the same way I've also memorized the cruise control and other function knobs and buttons. Today's cars ARE more dangerous to operate because of the attention stealing tv screens and menu within menu touch functions. Auto makers should be legally forced to return to simple, inexpensive and safer knobs and buttons rather than ultra expensive and unnecessary electronic nonsense and it's not just the electric cars, the ice cars are getting absurdly over complicated for no reason other than because they add serious money to the already inflated prices of cars.

All modern cars are becoming like this my mate brought a brand new Range Rover costing over £100k the first time I went in it the same thing all controlled from a screen. When he parked it he had to pull out a pedal lock and lock the pedals together when I asked why he said the insurance company said he had too because so many had been stolen!! This is a 100k car that Land Rover have made that they can't even make theft proof, this is totally unacceptable in a new car today...

Points of failure as well, no repairing or reusable parts.... its a gimmick, sell her asap and get an old car.❤

One giant iPad with several screens and a battery. What a rip off. That car cost the manufacturer nothing to make and they selling them for exorbitant prices for the rubbish they give you. Soon they will make your car updates a monthly subscription service. What a scam.
