Even fanboys are very disapointed with the Tacoma.

They actually are. But they weren't true Toyota fan boys. They were third gen and put crap on it fanboys. The real fan boys go back to the Hilux original, and really early four cylinder tacos. This new generation is actually closer to Toyota heritage and actual origins than the second and third gen.

@@rickthomas422 I have a 23 Tacoma. But I'm not that kind of fan boy. I may not be a fan boy at all actually. I do have the original Toyota color stripes though. And know they have trd because Nissan didn't want it. I also like old saabs, Mercedes,Aston Martin. I guess I don't that much about Tacoma. But the early Toyota history (and Nissan and Mazda) is interesting. There are more interesting cars though. Saab was a airplane company . Mercedes airplane engines. Of course vw and nazi Germany. Porsche is interesting. And a lot of companies that no longer exist but were pretty cool. In that sense, yeah. Tacoma isn't very interesting.. But I did get the original Toyota stripe colors. I bought this exact truck with just a few less do-dads (could not care less about power seats or power tailgates) an I only paid 44k. It's got awesome power coming out of an engine made in the U.S., the back seat is big enough if you're a family of people less than 5' 9" (which we are). Only downside to me is the sound. But I have a V8 Tundra also, and this engine honestly feels better. And as long as people get their oil changed regularly, and don't drive like they're in the indy 500, the engine should last.

That's just nonsensical. Who gives a shit? If you need a 3/4 ton 8ft bed, you wouldn't look at any mid-size regardless of brand/price. If you are looking for a mid-size that'll fit in your garage and doesn't ride like a tank, you wouldn't look at the Ford either.

@giro994 21 день назад
Upping that F250 to a super crew, and the XLT package, is a much better comparison and still only gets it to $57.7k (adding the premium package and FX4 package adds almost 5k). If you don't care as much about fuel economy, and don't mind it being bigger (garaging and parking in general is tough), or want/need the much bigger bed and capacity, then it's an easy choice. But if you only need a 2 seater, don't need a 8' bed, and don't overload it with extra options, the SR5 XtraCab 4x4 is $41.9k. Those "Premium" packages add on a lot. The rear seat size on the double cab might not be big enough for us, but our current super crew f150 has 1 to 1.5 feet of space in front of people's legs in the back seat. Maybe I'd have a chance to fit it in the garage, or at least maneuvering in a parking lot would be a lot easier, if it didn't have so much extra space inside. All things have tradeoffs, and sometimes there is no perfect answer.
@Ronaldoafranco1
@Ronaldoafranco1 23 дня назад
FINALLY! You have said why people are not buying this thing. ITS THE PRICE! Yes, its absolutely better then the 3rd gen, but at those prices you are better off with a full size truck or an older diesel truck. I can get over the 4 cylinder, quality issues, unproven reliability, and the little room in the back seats. The one thing I cannot get over is the price. I rather go with a Colorado or Frontier. Maybe a full size or a used diesel truck. Toyota really screwed over the US consumers with how they priced them while building them in Mexico. Saving on labor and screwing the US consumers! Thank you for not actually buying one and trying to shove these trucks down your audience throats like most of the the youtubers.
@rickthomas422
@rickthomas422 23 дня назад
If you compare todays sticker price to similar equipped Tacos from 20 years ago, the prices are extremely close when you factor in the overall rate of inflation. The only way you'll get a cheaper truck is if Toyota cuts corners.
@benblakeney7418
@benblakeney7418 23 дня назад
@@rickthomas422 Toyota did cut corners. Hard plastics are all over the interior, including the main touch points, along with the significant increase in pricing. In my opinion, Toyota got used to the margins on the last generation with the fully depreciated manufacturing equipment and is trying to keep the same margins with the cost of the new manufacturing equipment.
@rickthomas422
@rickthomas422 23 дня назад
@@benblakeney7418 I actually have a counter argument for the hard plastics. I have them in my 2015 Tundra. It's the same plastics. I hated them at first in the Tundra. But now that it's 9 years old, and I've watched how my interior has not aged compared to friends and family's fords and chevys, its grown on me a lot. But the Tacoma feels a lot nicer inside, and I do like how most of the touch points (the things you actually touch) are wrapped in leather or rubberized. It's got a nice feel to it. Doesn't feel cheap at all to me for a midsize. And I'd imagine the Limited edition, which I haven't sat in, probably feels real nice and has softer touch points everywhere. I did get a Tacoma with a white color strip across the dash, and it does not look cheap, and is probably my favorite thing about mine. The screens are also a really awesome quality, the seats are typical Toyota awesome, and the steering wheel is by far the nicest feeling steering wheel I've ever had on a car.
@benblakeney7418
@benblakeney7418 23 дня назад
@@rickthomas422 We have a 2014 Sequoia and the plastics are different. There are hard plastic but not where you touch such as the window area where I like to rest my arm, the dash and face of the dash is nicer, etc. These look and feel cheap, not quite as bad as the first 2 years of the Ford Bronco but almost... Toyota is doing the same with a 58k base model LC with cheap plastics all over. A 50k plus vehicle shouldn't have cheap and hard plastic on the touch points. Rubberized/textured/padded plastic, sure. Toyota is not producing their eco boxes form the 70s and these plastics remind me of those from my childhood. It's obviously a personal opinion but the cheap plastics are less expensive than the other makers offer in their trucks for the most part.

Absolutely, I have a 2021 TRD off road, I was kicking around the idea of getting a new one next year because I'm not a fan of first year vehicles by any manufacturer. But I don't know much about turbos I have never owned one, but just the tiny backseat would be enough to turn me away.

I love my 23... best of all for the price, it's at least a proven model. An equivalent 24 trimline costs $6000 CAD more and has fewer features. Why did they remove the standard dual zone climate control, for example? Plus, TFL breaking theirs on the first minor off-road outing. Yeah, we're not missing out.

Still driving a 2011 Toyota Tacoma 4-door, Auto, V6, 4X4, TRD, Sport, loaded with 40,000 low miles, the reason is I have a 2010 Toyota Camry, 98,000 miles and an old, old Jeep CJ, 349,000 miles. My wife the Camry owner has been looking at new cars since January 2024, I don't know what she will buy but I can tell you one thing, it won't have a turbo on it. Seven years ago, I worked in an Internet Diesel/ Gas parts House (we sold everything) turbos were our specialty. You would not believe the men and women that called and came to our front parts counter with a busted turbo in their hand. I am not kidding you some of them men and women cried when I quoted the replacement price. We also sold rebuilt turbos, but I don't recommend them (new is always best), turbos are high maintenance, you go over your mileage limit for an oil and filter change just 1000 or 2000 miles and your engine is fine, but your turbo goes out and most of the time it's spun or burnt a bearing in the turbo. Now you're looking at maybe $900 to $1300 dollars if you do it yourself (not an easy job) and double that if you let a shop do it. You didn't need the turbo on a V6, so here you are paying $50,000 or more on a truck that's a 4 banger and that will cost you a chunk of money if you keep it 90,000 or miss an oil change mileage date. Personally, I think I'll wait till 2025 or 2026 to see what Toyota does or just buy a Nissan Frontier now before they do something crazy. PS: Most busted turbos came in to us at 80,000 miles or more, the first thing I ask was how many miles on it and did you change your oil and filter on time? PSS: they look at me like I'm crazy and say, "but my engine is fine" and I say yea, but you have a busted turbo in your hand.

@@gumpbubba4276 Keep that 2010 Camry, my wife had one I gave her money for a downpayment on a 2022 Rav4 which I like but truthfully 98,000 isn't a lot of miles for that car if it was taken care of besides normal maintenace the only thing we replaced on that car was an alternator it had around 120,000 on it when I was rearended and the car was totaled.

@@1blkgsd completely get you concerned with space, at these prices moving up to a full size would make more sense. As far as the turbo, I really don't think there's anything to worry about. I have a 17-year-old Volvo with a turbo, at 233k miles it's still on the original turbo with no extra services. I just changed the oil with good synthetic every 5K and it's good to go. If you ever drive that elevation, you'll like the turbo, high altitude doesn't affect them the way it does normally aspirated engines. My Volvo is awesome in the mountains, my 4Runner not so much.

That premium package adds a ton to the price. The TRD off road with the upgrade package instead of the premium is 49k including delivery. Or the SR5, double cab 6' bed 4x4 plus upgrade package (heated seats, parking sensors, trailer brake, etc) is $45.6. I'll be looking at either of those, but the first time I jumped in one I also found the backseat to be small, so that will be the main deciding factor for us. Pricing increases quickly on any of these, if you start adding leather or similar, and features like powered tailgates.

Being a tall guy,6’5, it’s a hard decision when it comes to finding a proper vehicle that one can fit in comfortably. Not only do I have to take in consideration my comfort but also that of family and friends. Trucks like the Tacoma are great if it’s just you and you don’t do a lot with others then it’s a good truck. Tall people like me like trucks like the Tacoma, but realistically it would be a hard fit. I had for a time a Nissan Frontier, I felt cramped in that thing and it was worse when I had passengers. Most of my friends are average height but even for them it was a tight fit. Maybe companies like Toyota should think about extending the cab a bit. Many people like to keep their vehicles for a long time and will have families growing with it, something to think about

I totally agree with you Tim and others re the pricing for these new Tacoma's. Same goes for the Land Cruiser and upcoming 4runner. Toyota has priced themselves way out of sync with the marketplace and I don't fully understand why. Once Ford/GM/Ram start discounting their latest mid and full size trucks (some already are pretty aggressively) I don't see a choice for Toyota but to follow suit. And what's the deal with the glovebox not closing properly? I can't recall the last time I saw that in a new car/truck.

I have a new '24 Tacoma Off Road after owning 4 Tacomas since 2003. I drove my '21 TRD OR to the dealership because I wanted to test drive it myself. It's HANDS-DOWN better than my '21. I bought the '24 on the spot and after 3,500 miles on highway and taking it into the dirt and rocks, I love it. It has power when you need it, no lag, the cabin is drastically more comfortable, the rear disc brakes actually make the truck responsive when coming to a quick stop rather than the old drums putting all the responsibility on the front end and last but not least...the transmission. I was so sick and tired of my 3rd and 2nd gens constantly hunting for gears, never making up it's damn mind. No more. Smooth as butter and finally feels how a transmission SHOULD work in the year 2024. As for the cabin comfort, the ergo's are vastly improved in both seating, positioning and comfort. Yes, the rear area is tight if you're over 5'8" and the driver is 6' tall...I find it laughable to hear complaints about 230lb. tall dudes complaining about the rear comfort....it's a mid-size truck what do you expect? Get a full-size if you're going to be hauling around Billy Bob and Jimmy in the backseat. The Ranger does have a tiny bit more room in the back, but the Ranger feels like a half-assed attempt by Ford to make a competitive mid-size and just feels bland, uninspiring and gives the impression that it will be at the dealership for repairs before you crack 5,000 miles. Funny side note, I almost went for the Colorado, but after test driving it for less than 3 miles there was rattles and squeaks from the dash AND the turn signal kept tripping all over itself...all on a truck that had 7 miles on it. No f'ing thanks. Looks cool though, but the day Chevy makes a reliable, well built truck without electrical glitches out the ass and shoddy build quality in the cabin...no thanks. The '24 Tacoma just FEELS solidly built, and not like a plastic piece of garbage.

One thing everyone seemed excited about on these new Tacos was that the driver position and space is better for bigger drivers. But that can only come at a cost somewhere else. A rule for the Tacoma designers is that it has to fit in a standard garage. You can't get more interior space without messing with a lot of other things. The nose on this truck is what makes it look so good, and the bed is already short enough. I own this truck and I'm extremely surprised at how nostalgic the interior has made me for the MR2 we owned back in the 80s. It's certainly different, but I feel like I'm back in that MR2 and I love it. Some cars are just made for us smaller people though.
@HiPlains1
@HiPlains1 22 дня назад
The new Ranger can fit in a garage and the back seat is comfortable for adults. Even GM and Nissan did a better job with back seat space. The taco is definitely the worst. Its so bad they might as well delete the seat and just make them all extended cabs with 6 foot bed. If I bought one that is what i'd get. Because the back seat is trash and worthless on the four door. I mean Tim had a good point if a 12 year old finds it not comfortable then they likely made an overstep. I know Ford was able to make their truck a littler wider with longer wheelbase but keep the overall length the same. Plus the Ford can carry and tow allot more. The base 2.3 ecoboost and 10 speed does a better job. Then your literally paying at least 5K more for the toyota. I don't see paying more and getting less. I see a lot of hard plastics on this prem package. I mean I can buy a ZR 2 for under 50K near my house. And they got 6 of them. At this price point I see Canyon denali's for sale. Its night a day better interior and the 2.7 makes allot more power. Does not work as hard as I see here. If you really want to save you can find loaded Pro 4X's for 7 thousand less then this. Like Tim and many other loyalist are saying the price point is indeed the biggest issue here.

When you compare it to the GMC Canyon or a standard Ford Ranger, I agree that Tacoma is higher in price for a similar trim/feature line but only by $1000 or $2,000 (which isn't nothing I know). Most people would agree that you would recoup that money when you go to sell or trade in the truck if you went with the Tacoma.

Well I definitely agree with you with the looks it does look very nice but, I had noticed when I closed the door the doors feel very tiny very light very cheap the rest of the material around the truck she seems very tiny and cheap and the power tailgate that's a gimmick I don't know what they were thinking are they selling at the truck to a toddler, I also had the truck with the hood breather that is fake by the way every time I hit a bump the hood would move and it was locked down that's the scary part, the hood is very tiny and very light compared from the third generation Tacoma, then when you get into the truck every single thing on the dash is 100% cheap cheap plastic there was no quality control at all I mean the cheapest plastic you can buy it's in the truck it looks so cheap it is cheap some of the gaps are not even tight. Then they had to add more problems when they put a 4-cylinder turbo motor that won't last we know that so if this is a truck you want for 2-3 years can you trade it in for a new one you might be okay, but if you want it for longer don't even waste your time I did not even feel safe in this truck it felt so light and cheap, so I decided to take the third generation Toyota for a ride what a difference the third generation rides better the hood doesn't move around when you hit a bump the truck feels more solid and planted to the ground the doors are heavier which makes it feel stronger I felt so safe in the third, so who do we blame here, the Toyota for making this garbage? Or the SUCKERS. Sorry people that buy this garbage? If people keep buying this and keep supporting it quality is going to get worse people need to stop buying this garbage and show Toyota come back with the good stuff we know you can make quality, give them no option let them know you make quality or we're going somewhere else!!!!!
