Yes, another car goes out the door. On this episode, I explain why I sold my 2016 Porsche GT4 and how much it cost me to own for a year. #porsche #gt4 #cayman
I love your Porsche content and it breaks my heart when you get rid of a Porsche(though I do understand your methods). You’re a great teacher Love your videos!
LOL, don't ever get married dude... You will be bored with the same ole ride within a year and the cost of ownership will be a lot higher than the GT4.
Sad to see it go dude! I just sold my 997 S a month ago. Loved the car but the current market makes it hard not to consider selling. Looking forward to the next fun car!
Absolutely agree with trying different cars, variety is the spice of life! I've had everything from Elise, 4C, to Panamera GTS and Jaguar XKR-S and a lot more in between. Would love to see your thoughts on the 987.2 Cayman S. Since you've had an Elise and a GT4, this car should slot right between the two in terms of rawness and overall feel. The Gen 2 Caymans are special, especially the "R" but prices on those cars have really taken off. The "S" can still be had in the mid-40's in great shape. Take a look!
Good video. I had a 2018 Cayman GTS - fantastic car, just as you say. My issues with it were: expensive maintenance, low practicality, and there were places in town I wouldn't park it. So I replaced it with a Golf R, which solves all three of those problems, and is plenty fast enough. Sure the Golf R doesn't shift like a PDK, nor does it handle like the Cayman, but is so terrific otherwise I don't miss those things.
Kurt, keep producing video. Don't quit! Hey look I owned a 944 - bought it second hand though but was still in good condition - and no part, yes no part, at that time, cost less than 3 digits! What a rip off. I sold it and bought a second hand Trans Am. Sure it was less finesse but parts were much cheaper. Suggestion: think about road testing cars like mustang, RAM 1500 etc and ou will have many more watching your video.
I just sold my dream car - an F430. Pretty heartbreaking so definitely feeling that vibe. Finding it extremely hard to replace. It's a can't live, can't live without scenario.. 😢
I can relate..went home a 993 that I racked, owned for 17 years, then your type off "fever" struck...Sold the 993, got a 2004 GTS...ho hum, tray was a Cayman 20-14 GTS, a performance monster, sold that, got a 2020 Mustang GT with Performance Package 1, sold that and get 2015 Cayman GTS, sold that, for a 2103 Carrera S, sold that and I have settled happily with a 2017 Carrera GTS...the best car I have ever owned, in my garage for 2 years, now getting the need for another car, maybe a 981 Cayman GT4, or a 718 GT4.....oh my.
Man, it's gotta be tricky trying to find something of the same caliber or greater than the GT4 for $60k. Especially in this market. Seeing something a little older may be a good option until the market settles down and you want for the next real-deal sports car. I was also thinking about that GT350 you owned... paying $42k for a GT350 is unheard of now! $50k+ for even high mileage examples!
Reset computer is $175 on sale from SunCoast. Got the correct spark plugs for $60. Put permanent filters in for $170. Cabin filter is cleanable a few times. 981’s are not that bad if you do as much as you can yourself and use an Indy mechanic. I replace the differential fluid every other year for $40. Replace half the PDK fluid every year for $40. The spark plugs are a pain to replace on the front two cylinders. No way I’m going to a stealership though.
Wow, where I have been. Did not know you had a GT4. By the way my Porsche Cayman base with 2200 miles on it is worth more than I paid for it due to market conditions. It’s a 2021.
Rennlist listing was $63k. Hell of a deal to get what a picky person considered it as, 'easily the best he ever owned.' Congrats to the new owner. Looking forward to the next project on the channel!
$2,200 seems a bit too high. I just did mine for $1,200 w/o oil change. I bought a scan tool, so the oil change costs me around $90 and GT4 oil change is way easier than my SUV. I am waiting for GT4RS now. Porsche will announce in November however, I will keep my GT4 as long as the car stops moving.
Wait… you sold the car and were wired the money then took the car out for a final drive? Hmm - That aside, good summary of ownership and I completely understand the sports car journey. I have the similar ownership experiences with a 987.1 CS, 997.1S, GT350, 981.1B, and felt the exact same way about the GT350!
You wanna play you gotta pay. Bought mine for $60k with 30k. Came with EXPEL Ultimate paint protection. Mostly everything in the interior is carbon fiber including the shift knob.
5:45 there is a DIY procedure for resetting the service reminder and it can easily be found on YT and Google. How in the heck did you get a GT4 for $55k?! Heck, I can't even find a nice S model in that range.
Someone wired you the money sight unseen?! Crazy. Details on how to go about a transaction would be appreciated. One time a seller wanted me to send $5k to hold the car until I could get out to him a couple days later and I just don't have trust in people like that.
Was this your first Porsche? I feel like all of us know as owners it costs to keep them. That being said though, mine is the most reliable car I’ve ever had and my dealership is also above and beyond in taking care of me. I think Porsche will always be a very specific taste.
Are working on some of these cars outrageous? Yes, but these cars are amazing and Porsche service is top notch and you own a GT car so you “gota pay to play”. It’s almost impossible to explain to a bmw, Mercedes, Audi corvette own how amazing Porsche is so in my opinion I think it’s worth it. Cheers
next car has to be a convertible, what else in so cal?? something with a v8 and more on the plush/luxury side than firm and sporty. and yes I'm thinking about selling my miata for an early 90's merc sl.
For me a 718 Spyder but the f. $ for those, that is for me my personal best looking car forget the driving LOL so pretty omg in manual which car manufacturer makes manuals now a days, thanks Porsche for listening.
Personally it's allot more affordable than I thought. Especially considering I plan on only driving mine maybe big maybe 2000 miles a year. Will never sell or have to hopefully.
I did, but wasn't sure what that would do to the value of the car. In a clean title car I could probably get most of that money back. Not sure in a rebuilt car..
@@EatSleepDriveI don't think about getting value back out of car when its time to pass it on. To me the value is the experience with a car. Your GT4 was a win/win had you kept it. I do understand the evolution or ladder with car ownership, but there will always be ones we wish we'd kept. Looking forward to your next adventure and hope that your Porsche related content continues.
Spending money on car maintenance is honestly worth it, especially with a car you love and enjoy. Spending car maintenance on a beater shit box is horrid and soul crushing.
The trouble with the GT4 is it looks like it's moulded out of one sheet of plastic like a toy. I say this after doing a track day alongside a GT4. I was in my Cayman S. Most of the cars were Lotuses: Exiges and Elises. The GT4 guy said himself (we were both ex-Lotus owners) that the Lotuses on track looked purposeful and rippling with speed and performance. I felt about my own Cayman that, in comparison with the Lotuses, the car was more about elegance than gritty track day performance. True, the engine was superb. Yes of course Porsche's are built for the track - but at the same time they are big fat buses in comparison to out and out track cars.
I‘m owning a 981 GT4 aswell (pls see on my youtube channel). And I totally agree with you on the missing nose lift! Why don‘t you get a 992 GT3 manual as your next car? 🤔😃
@@koruki nice! I loved my 981 S but I live in high elevation so I wanted something with a little more torque. I sure do miss the sound, handling, and looks of the Cayman though!
@@micraw714 good trade if you need a practical car. I can fit the kids in the M2, go down to the hardware store etc. I don’t need the torque as my Tesla has more torque than both lol
So, if you didn't have issues and only used the dealer recommender service, $2,200? That's not terrible at all being that that car is still going for around 100k used and 140s new. And it wasnt a typical oil change, but your 36k service. If that 2.2k was too much, sorry but you shouldn't have bought that car. My Mercedes ran me over $700 just to get the fuel door solenoid replaced, gave that car to the ex and now in the market for a GT4 or GT3 myself.
This dude is a clown… He buys cars, drives them, and complains about the most mundane shit breaking, or just standard/normal maintenance. This dude bought a brand new wheel when he could have bought a nice clean used version. His argument about not knowing the condition is so stupid it’s bonkers. Guess our eyes don’t work when we are going to buy a wheel in person. Jokes on me I guess, because I keep watching. Makes me feel better, because eventually he will get to a car he really shouldn’t sell, and someone like me can buy it at a discount.
@@aceorocha7857 What are you driving now? Your comment sounds so angry and aggressive yet you continue to watch and take time to complain… why even do that does it make you feel better to express yourself? I’m not trolling just curious about human nature. 🙏
Cabin filters and spark plugs shouldn't need to be replaced at 36k miles. Today's iridium plugs last for 120k miles. Unless you did all those miles on the track thrashing the engine, I am sure you didn't need plugs.
I've had a 981 GT4 since new, and it's been great. Super reliable and handling on a different planet, and I's worth the same as I paid for it 6 years ago. You did the biggest no-no of all for a guy selling a collectable sports car - you drove it after selling it and getting paid! You never do that!! It's inviting disaster before the new owner takes procession
@@EatSleepDrive If you must do that, then drive it like a nun in the slow lane and look out for everything, or better yet just have it picked up at your house. I've sent two cars to new owners on transports, and both were from my house. I know of two people in the last 10 years that took their baby out for "one last ride" where the car got crashed on one and hit by another car on the other, so I'm a little gun shy
How are OEM wheels $200? I think you have some ridiculous expectations there. Just looked up the cost of replacing the wheels on an MX5 with the sport package - $1200 each for the 17” BBS wheels. $1500 for Porsche sounds cheap considering they can charge you $4K just for a paint colour.
Your car came with a CPO and had a bent wheel? You should have complained to Porsche about that. Or did you buy the car from someone who bent the wheel after the CPO was issued?
He bought it from a Salvage rebuild place. The car was crashed and he bought it from them after they fixed it. That's why he was surprised that the valve for the exhaust was covered under a CPO warranty.
So basically, you bought a broken car at a really decent price, can't afford the upkeep, and had an opportunity to sell it at a great price? I would do the same. I wouldn't buy a salvage car, especially not a car that is German and usually meant to be kept as a collectors car with very low depreciation. Also, unless I was making $500k+/yr, I wouldn't buy a car like the GT4. I wouldn't be able to afford daily driving it otherwise nor would I be able to afford it as a second car.
Exactly lmaooo. Ridiculous logic tbh. Especially after the Porsche dealership scared him on maintenance fees. But a brand new stock wheel at $1500 sounds right somehow haha.
Valentino Rossi, sorry he want something special and preferable better, now that is always hard after owning a GT4 Porsche omg as i want a 718 Spyder in manual, for sure no deals to be found even worst they get more expensive by waiting LOL
here's what i would buy if i were in the market for top end sports car, in no particular order LFA M3 911 GT3 Touring Thats all i can think of off the top of my head
Dude, I have a 2016 GT4 and will never sell. iI's the bomb! Sorry, this video is useless. I am glad you sold it to someone that will will really enjoy it.
Definition of "whiner" . . . . see this video. Geeeeez . . . it's a Porsche GT car! You were expecting maybe Honda Civic level expenses? I own a GT4 . . . sometimes you just have to "pay to play".
@@EatSleepDrive It was clear to me too that you were simply reporting the facts. Reading some of these comments and how negative or dumb people are makes me not want to start my own channel. Ha! Keep up the great work and so cool you got to experience all these nice cars!
Seems to me you need to be reminded Again about the realization of what you actually purchased and how to PROPERLY spell out the name of this Company. Once again.. that is: POR$CHE. (Least somehow one forgets.)
When you EatSleepDrive+WORK=300k then $2200 is no problem. Then again if you had any idea about OBDII equipped cars you would know that a $50 tool will reset the oil service warning. Plugs are Bosch about $5-8 each blah blah blah...Nothing funnier than someone on a Home Depot bucket in an alley Porsche GT4 talking and 100k people want to know about it. You are welcome.
Lol...crying over $3400. I spent more then that on my girlfriends Louis Vuitton purse. When i bought my used Cayman i took it straight to a indy shop and had all the fluids changed. That was 2k
