WOW !! I love it....I bought a new one in 1995 , red with brown leather and brown drop top.....I loved it for a little over 10 years !! Probably the best car I've owned , I needed a full size car....and didn't want it to let the Miata not be driven enough and I just decided to go ahead a sell it.....but I've missed it....now Im retired and in South Florida....so I am thinking seriously about buying one....thanks for tempting me and giving me a reason to just DO IT !!! Thanks Buddy !!!
I was driving on Mulholland Drive and someone driving this car with this color drove past me and in the sun, it unbelievably POPPED. What a lovely sight.
So glad you noticed the beauty of the soul red paint! I had the previous version in a Mazda 3 2014, and always would look at it during sunlight and gaze. This just takes it to the next level. It's a very unusual effect it can take on in sunlight/sunset. Radiating.
(1) Trunk light is not "manual;" leave the switch in the on position, and it shuts off when you close the trunk. The switch is really for turning the trunk light off when you don't want it on. Kind of a silly feature -- Is it for unloading illicit content in the dead of night? (2) When it's 93' outside, I can drive with the top down with the A/C on full (windows up for highway speeds); cap, sunglasses, and sunscreen help. (3) The gear shift indicator is not just for recommending shift points for maximum mpg. It's dynamic: drive aggressively, and it will suggests shifts for maximum performance; drive like grandma, and it will suggest shifts for maximum gas mileage. (4) Top-down driving is loud on highways; stay off highways, put the top up, or wear earplugs.
Another great review 👍I am biased but I do love the MX5. My wife I have owned 5 between us my first was an NA , a NB in 1998 and 2000 and we now own a ND - soft too for me and a RF for her. The ND has gone back to the NA roots of lightweight , fun, cheap to drive and own . Yes say a Mustang is an awesome car in a straight light but a MX5 is a great car under all driving conditions ❤️
Can you try and give me a comparison between the two? What is good or bad about the RF or Soft Top? I need to decide which one to buy. Which is the better value or anything that would help me to decide? Thanks...
either install aftermarket bucket seats to sit lower or do a foamectomy on the seat were you take out some of the foam so you sit lower and fit in the car
The MX-5 was the car I aspired to own one day. By chance I was able to sit in one... I stepped in and thought the seat was moved all they way forward, so I pulled the lever to go further back... I was already as far back as it could go. Holding the steering wheel, my knees would be over my hands... Being 6 foot 4 has a good couple of downsides, and finding out that mx-5/ Miata never is the answer is one of them
Yeah, I probably should have put it's not the answer for people taller than 6'2". I'm 6- 6'1" (on a good day) and I fit fine. A little tight but moving around the cabin isn't that awful now since the steering wheel is able to telescope. That made a huge difference from me hating or liking this car.
It'll come eventually, but it seems these reviews fill most of the time with stuff that a real driver doesn't care much about. Definitely more Consumer Reports than Road and Track.
This review is for people who are interested in buying one and want the full run down as if going to a dealership. It’s meant to be informative and detailed. There are plenty of quick, drive only reviews out there. Sorry this format doesn’t excite you but instead of wasting your own time and complaining, just find a different video. It really is that easy. 😇
Nice job! The ND2 is well positioned to win over S2000 owners who are aging quickly while waiting for Honda to wake up and release a proper “S” successor...
My 2020 MX-5 RF has been up graded. I put a cold air air filter and a chip that claims to add up to 60 hp. It has more than 135 mph top end. That is as fast as I have taken it to it had more to give me. 35.5 mpg mostly interstate 20% city. Wow I raced for ten years. At 67 I wanted a fun fast car and for the money I get a road racer that gives me the race memories. Driving at the speed limit you still feel the excellent response of the engineering of a sports car.
Trunk light shuts off once you close the trunk so leave it on the on position...I verified this by placing my cell phone in the trunk and recording it! Nice video,
Good review. Although 8 secs to 60 mph didn't exactly look fun. For $25K it seems like a reasonable choice. The Civic R definitely costs way too much for the performance level.
hi im here in England uk man cant wait for the summer,, fantastic review and you made it exciting get mine next year on my Birthday 64 yrs young awsome man absolutely awsome..
Getting mine this Wednesday. Ordered the grey rf gt 2.0, its the 160ps version. I dont think the 180ps version is available here in Ireland. There is a 30th anniversary edition that is 180ps but its only available in orange. And it looks terrible. But yeah, roll on Wednesday 🚘👍
I've lusted after this car since they showed the ND and i've sat in it multiple times at auto shows but when it came to replacing my 02 Celica i opted for a Model 3. In New Jersey climate it just makes more sense, however whenever i can afford to own two cars I will be adding an MX-5 to the stable, or whenever i move out of the armpit of america to southern climates i'd be fine with an ND for a daily.
I would rather have a Miata than any other sports car. How do they deliver that much beauty and style at that price? Maybe other sports are are more powerful and fast, but I'm not looking to get a speeding ticket or causing an accident. I just want to enjoy the ride! I love Mazda!
I test drove this same version and I wanted to love it. I have a nice old '99 and was thinking of upgrading. The new car is obviously faster and has the same great feel and handling of the my old car, and then some, in a modern design. But it's so loud with the top up. There was crazy amounts of wind noise and road noise. I actually think my '99 is a little quieter, especially in terms of wind noise. Top down it's an awesome experience. Top up, not good. And I drive about 50% with the top up. It's a great car but I can't see spending that much money for something that annoyingly loud.
Very good video friend, hey, where did you install the front, rear, side spoilers and the dovetail? and how much did you spend on it? thanks for your answer.
The Kia Forte is cheaper with room for 4 and more luggage- it depends on if you want more fun and better looks, or more practical. The Abarth is also fun with a better engine sound, but more for a weekend driver only because it is very unreliable. I am a fan of Pirelli Italian tires.
So, notchy is NOT the right term for the shifter. Short and precise are good adjectives. Notchy means that the transmissions is worn out and should be rebuilt!
Mr. Forrest, Mazdas' Skyactive engine technology is quite unlike that from other makers' and much more than a high C:R, which, incidentally is very high. Search " Skyactive " on RU-vid. Thanks for your time and effort.
A good turbo kit for the ND, plus installation, is well over $5K, unfortunately. Which negates any savings between buying a used 2018 vs a 2019. And some 2016's and 2017's had probs w/ their manual transmissions (only those cars w/ VIN #s after 121392 have the updated transmissions). So the question is, go for the 2018 at an affordable price for those on a budget (under $24K), or get the 2019 w/ the more powerful engine for $30K+. I'm wrestling w/ that conundrum....sigh...
youcanrunnaked ....that’s incorrect.... if you are halfway normal sized, height/weight, and able to get in and out of normal sports cars these Recaros won’t be a challenge. The seat itself provides much better support whilst driving spirited and adds a lot to the feeling of driving a sports car either. For me it’s the most important option to buy for an MX5 to optimise the triangle of pedals, steering wheel and seat....
I like miatas, especially the NB and ND, but if Miata is always the answer... what is the Toyota MR2?(2nd gen) lol not trying to troll, genuine question
Am i the only one that doesnt like how the shifter constantly wiggles around? My Veloster N doesnt do this neither did my old Civic Si, is it because its RWD? Never new it was that significant cuz man that things rattles, never noticed it till i saw this review
This dollhouse is a nice but not at all perfect sports car for dwarfs between 150 and 170 cm tall. For me (176 cm) the narrowness produces claustrophobic feelings in all directions as it is not possible in any other sports car. If I move my right leg 5 cm, I immediately hit the steering column, the steering wheel or the center console. I have to adjust the interior mirror to the highest position. If I was 1 inch taller, I could not set the mirror high enough to see the top of the rear window. The space on the passenger place is only suitable for small Japanese women and otherwise an imposition. It is a pity and completely incomprehensible that this worldwide exported car is so consistently tailored to Japanese body dimensions. Moreover, unfortunately, the steering is not appropriate for a sports car. It has far too little resistance and is very synthetic. Such a steering fits in a common car, but not in a sports car. Although the very soft suspension does not affect the driving characteristics, it doesn't fit at all to a sports car emotionally. Compared to the Toyota GT86 which is a true sports car that nearly feels like a Porsche, the MX-5 feels like a fancy open car for girls who like common car comfort and a smooth steering. In my opinion, the car in the media is greatly overrated. Obviously, Mazda successfully runs a lot of effort here, as you can see from the elaborate presentation of the revised versions in Romania, including, of course, paid travel and accommodation for the journalists - and unfortunately also from your completely uncritical video.
I'm 182 cm and I have no problem fitting. I love that it fits like a glove. That's how a lightweight roadster should feel. If it's the "narrowness" that causes so many "claustrophobic feelings" then I don't know what to tell you except to go for a jog every now and then, bud. Eat healthy for a bit and maybe you'll be able to enjoy a pure driving experience as well.
@@mexkdspEd44 I have a sporty figure and weigh 70 kg. Of course, a sports car can and should feel like a glove. But the MX-5 for me feels like a glove that is one size too small for the hand. Apart from that, I expect from a sports car an integrated seating position INSIDE and not ON TOP like the Mazda where I see the bonnet from above - you don't find that in any other sports car all over the world. It is gratifying that many are able to cope with the MX-5's seating position and interior size. At the same time, it cannot be denied that this is a topic in specialist circles everywhere and again and again, especially as long as evaluations are not made at driving events fully financed by Mazda.
