You missed the most important circle function! :) It becomes a rev-counter if you put it in sport mode!!!! It can also have a pulsing heartbeat that lets you know how engaging your style of driving ist :)))
That's what made going to Mini an easy choice. Now that they reportedly won't have the JCW with manual transmission, will have me looking other places.
@@Impreza-bj5jh , most of Europe is the same. We don't care about speeding as much as other crimes since people know how to drive better and get out of the damn left lane. (lived in US and Canada both countries stay in left lane which is only passing lane).
I do that. If it's foamy, it's helping, right? Okay maybe not...i do it occasionally, not manicly...BUT if you have one of those super foamy soap dispensers, you can 100% refuel that thing and get the exact same foam again at least once!
And a few years down the line, when someone is shopping for a used countryman. They will go into the infotainment system, and immediately skip buying it, if it shows cliff champion.
Doug gave it a three out of ten for fun factor. But Doug also had loads of fun explaining how fun the Mini really is. I'm thinking a better score would be six out of ten for fun factor. Because the fun doesn't stop when your sitting at a light.
With manual more fun on the road than any other compact SUV sold today. If you think not, tell us what CSUV you think is more and then we can have some fun....
Electric seats have more possible positions than manual seats though. I don't care for electric seats only because I never have to adjust my seat after the first time so why bother.
If you share a car with someone else and you are different heights then electric seats with memory presets are great. If you're the only one that drives your vehicle then electric seas are unnecessary - expensive, heavy and more things to go wrong.
They're lighter, it's faster to get them in the right spot, and in coupes you dont have to wait like 15 seconds for the seat to move up so you can get in back, then wait another 15 seconds for the seat to move back. They're objectively better.
no you can get it exactly right in electric and you can even do it on the move. do that in a manual and you'll slide all the way back or all the way front if your braking lol
@@xavierramirez330 that's literally never happened to me because you almost never move your seat. Last time I moved my seat was when I let someone else drive it and they moved the seat up. Half a second of moving the seat and haven't had to touch it since.
Americans be like: Bro i have a 450 hp v10 in my car. Another american: that's ok. Romanians be like: Bruh i have a 125 hp 4 cylinder in my car. Another romanian: Man that's a lot.
My doug sense was tingling, I was driving down the highway, say a countryman, thought "hey doug should do a video on one of those". Get home, open RU-vid, and was blessed by lord doug
That's because the doug score includes supercars and stuff, so 3/10 is good for a crossover, since its a fun to drive cross over in comparison to others
Scores have to be class-based. Otherwise every car will score either mediocre on everything or low on half the factors and high on half. Especially stuff like "practicality" has to be adjusted based on the car type. All cars are varying degrees of practical in different scenarios.
I own a 2014 F56 Cooper S. Has the same interior setup. Honestly it's not distracting at all, and can be dimmed down or turned off completely. Not really an issue.
If you hold the ambient color changing button it mixes colours together and if you keep holding it for 10 seconds until it blinks it enters a disco mode.
Q: How do we get people to buy more minis? A: Get the customers to destroy their minis. Q: How do we do that? A: We'll make a game out of driving it off road, by giving them the title "Cliff Chump" after so many hours spent destroying their minis. Q: Alright, but let's call it "Cliff Champ", OK? A: That's even better.
Absolutely love ours. Three years we've been putting it through its paces and at 108k miles with minimal issues. Nothing but absolutely comfortable and fun for both the person in the driver seat and even the back seat. It's a very practical mini monster in a class of its own.
Something to note about the circle: It can also be changed to a tachometer instead of the ambient light color Also, the lighting isn't fixed to a set of colors, if you hold down the toggle rather than pressing it and releasing it will begin to cycle through the spectrum and you can stop it wherever between the preset colors.
Big fan of the Countryman, love the rear and all the chrome, looks awesome. Sad that all the Mini's are so expensive, but at least the interiors and outer design are always interesting. Nobody can accuse them of being boring.
Bilal Mahmood yeah I’m the crazy one commenting when I have no idea what I’m talking about. Know your clothing. www.google.co.uk/amp/s/heavy.com/fashion/2018/04/best-mens-casual-shorts-top-10-khakis-chinos/amp/ khaki is a colour AS WELL AS A MATERIAL! Dickward, you just played yourself, calling me crazy 😂 and here is even the origins of the colour khaki www.britannica.com/topic/khaki
Tyler Shiffer seriously! I’m always irritated when I need to access my driver side back seat in my coupe. Thank god the passenger is manual, it’s almost a luxury.
Absolutely agree. You adjust it once and forget about it, less things to break. Every one of my BMW with auto telescope adjustment breaks within 3 years.
Most of the strange quirks you mentioned are a very traditional mini thing. The red for sport is a John cooper works color scheme. The plaid pattern was an interior option for the old minis. The checkerboard was a common roof paint scheme since forever. The central circle in the dashboard goes back to the old mini’s where ALL the gauges were in a circle. I had a 1974 mini while I lived in England and seeing a lot of the Cary overs are cool. Most people hate the 3 cylinder engine since for a while it wasn’t made by BMW and suffered as far as reliability, power and fuel economy. As far as all the things that made you smile is what made people into Mini people. Many of the things they got rid of with the Countryman is what many of the purists loved. That being said I will take it over any other crossover if price wasn’t a issue. Thanks for the great review.
Re: ambient lighting....you can hold the toggle switch to cycle through the colors until it blinks and then the lights rotate automatically ♥️❤️ Thanks for reviewing MINI, I’ve been waiting for this for years ❤️
I drive an R50 mini and my Mrs drives a 2018 cooper and all the rear wipers suck major ass on them, to the point a lot of people just remove them. The interiors on the new minis (2018 onwards) are super nice. Also should point out, a lot of stuff is standard. You pay a ridiculous amount for the John Cooper Works package, which is mostly just interior features. I do think doug would freaking love to drive the 3 door JCWs. They are crazy fun to drive. From all the years, Doug seems to prefer the cars that are fun zippy little cars.
@@mikevale3620 I did say mostly just interior features, not just interior features. For the price to performance, you really are paying mostly for interior spec. You know that because if you spec a cooper (non JCWs) model to be similar the huge price tag is for the interior. Just look at the wheels, seats and steering wheel price options for JCWs and you'll see what I mean!
Man, I love that engine sound. It really reminds me of how a lot of cars sounded in video games of the early 2000's. I wonder if it's all authentic, or of some of it is piped in.
Nothing can beat the good old Mini from until the year 2000, that was a proper Mini! No way this thing is a SUV, looks like a normal hatchback. Why does everything needs to be sporty these days? Iam 24 now and i want cars like Tyler Hoover has, like the Park Ave.
thats why i drive a old volvo 240 as a daily, nothing sporty about that thing( after 30 years and 400,000km she still purrrs and everyting works. and for fun and sporty driving i have my old mini with a rally car build.
A Jaguar isn’t much of an actual Jaguar is it? The MINI cooper was made decades and decades ago, brands change, it would be stupid for them to only make “mini” cars because that’s what their company is called. This comment is so overused
If you’re considering a Countryman, you should know that all that hate comes from the internet. I own a late model Cooper S 2-door hardtop with a 6 speed. Although it’s a classic configuration with its 2 doors and a manual, the trolls still hate on it. Unless it’s a first gen new mini or a classic, those trolls won’t be happy. But remember that you’re going to be driving it in the real world. In reality, the Mini community is welcoming to all Minis. I’m part of one of the largest Mini clubs in the US. Our club members have all kinds of Minis old and new. They are super friendly and they treat me and Countryman owners with love and respect. If you wan to be part of a car club and your life requires you to have a large car, consider this and join us.
Hey Doug, I think you should do a video based on quirky federal and maybe state regulations for vehicles on your other channel! I love to hear about these regulations and how the automobile companies try and get around it to implement style. Your channel is what I follow for the quirkiness. I can go to any channel and find out how much horsepower a car has. But only you would say why the DTRL LED turns off when the signal light is engaged and the mandate to back it. So it’s just a suggestion but I like learning about how things are and the way that it is. You seem to convey that seamlessly!
don't know about your country, but in my country (Greece) this is the ideal SUV...small, narrow, fast and awd...even the city roads (Athens and Pireaus) are only for small SUV's and KTM bikes...all other vehicles do not last more than 1-2 years...
I’ve driven one of these for the last nine years. Provably one of the best cars I’ve ever had and I’ve had a few. OK I live in Sweden where it’s snowing so the four-wheel-drive is great but in general it drives like a gokart, has plenty of room and never fails to put a smile on my face.
How do you like your mini countryman? I’m thinking about getting a used 2013 Countryman S. I want something unique and I love the style. The backseat is great for my boys to.
@@blue85246 I replaced it with a Mini SE electric about a year ago. Had a few minor problems like the heater fan motor dying and boot latch flaking out but otherwise it was reliable and roomy. I would recommend always going for 16 inch rims if you can. It rides too crashy on 17 and 18s as it is sports car suspension.
@@kiwiswede - ok nice ! Thanks for info ! I’m looking at a 2013 cooper s w/ over 115k mileage and just worried about turbo , carbon build up , and some say something about the radiator tubing as well. I really want to pull trigger and buy it …. Want to reward myself after going through a rough divorce last 3 years and it would be Perfect for my two boys and a bike rack for us. Thanks for your comment !
Another great review, Doug. I've owned a 2005 MINI since new and don't think I'll ever get rid of it, but I'm always game for cool new cars. I wish the new MINIs retained some of the first generation's features. In particular, on my car the window up/down and door lock/unlock switches are toggles in the center console, which is a super logical place to have them (especially on a manual transmission car). Also, on my car the tachometer is right in front of the steering wheel and I can use its digital display screen to show the speed: everything you need in one gauge, right in front of your face (like a Ferrari). Last, I don't know why MINI had to redesign the nose of their cars so drastically to comply with pedestrian safety guidelines, especially when you consider that a car like the Lamborghini Aventador's nose is below knee height. The new MINIs aren't as attractive as the first-generation cars, IMO, but I love that this vehicle is still fun and quirky and is still available with a manual. Thanks for all the great reviews.
The MINI Cooper Countryman John Cooper Works All4 is my all time FAVORITE car! I loved that car since I was like 5 because I went to a garage sale with my mom, and she bought me a toy MINI. I still have it. Ever since that day, I have LOVED those cars!
