Scotty Kilmer 2007 camry burns almost all the engine oil in two weeks, there are no oil leaks underneath, the dealer tech said one of the pistons burns the oil, what should we do to fix it? Is there any recall on them?

WITHOUT A DOUBT, this is the best light equipped 4Runner I have seen. The light upgrades working in conjunction with the all terrain applications make this one extremely road worthy vehicle..
I still have my '97 4 Runner. it's now at 376k miles. It has been by far the most reliable vehicle I've ever had. I had the original clutch replaced last year since I was going to take a longer trip. The original rear drum brakes were replaced a few months before I had the clutch done. I plan on getting a new one later this year.
I've been noticing at Toyota dealers that a lot of their vehicles are built in America. Is there any difference in terms of quality of the vehicle, if a Toyota vehicle is built in America versus Japan?
@@superfly4137 in my opinion, no. It is toyotas design, built to toyota specs, and still uses the famous toyota production system of kaizen. They wouldn't put that Toyota emblem on it if it wasn't as good as their japan-made vehicles. I have a tacoma that was built in california that has been outstanding.

this is the way it should be done, car review channels usually get a car for a few hours and research the features, they know nothing about it, I'd rather listen to someone who actually owns the car every day to see what their take on it is
My 98 has just under 133k. Just drove cross country from cali to north Carolina. (2,860 miles) Didn't have any issues. Didn't have to call AAA once! I love it. Also only spent about 600 for fuel on the trip!
@@clos6613 well I drove across the country from Sacramento,ca to north Carolina for about 600 in fuel. I would assume that has to do with maintenance. I replaced all my fuel injectors before I left and the rubber seals around the fuel injectors had crack in all of them. I could see how not maintaintaining your engine parts could lead to bad fuel economy. Mine is good tho
93 4Runner for 2K. Drove for 2 years just changed the oil. 16 year old hit me insurance gave me 2,200 for it. Best vehicle I ever owned. Buying another one in a month.
I own a '97 4Runner with 342k miles on it. Has the 3RZ with 5-speed. Great Fun vehicle to drive, rusty body but everything works. I also have a '96 FZJ80 Landcruiser with 1FZ-FE and it has 356k miles on it. It's been through the McKenzie Trail, Moab, Rubicon, and more. Hands down the Landcruiser is superior, especially in it's frame strength, driveline, and body. I love them both.
Have a 2000 limited with 215k. 4x4/rear diff lock/5vzfe v6 and it still gets 18 mpg and doesn't burn any oil! Just did all the 100k tune up at 200k ready for another 100k! The 3rd gen is one of the best built 4runners out of all the generations. The used market for them is going way up! Nice video scotty!
Yeah only time will tell. The big hinder for the 3rd gens was the frame rust. But other then that they hold their value in drier climates. The 5th gens are pretty well built and the 6th gen should be coming out here sometime soon!
@joes enjois You forgot to mention that the 5VZFE is a cast iron engine block. Thats the other indication of long lasting engine. My 97 is now has over 280k miles on it.
I barely fit in a 4Runner like these. Yet I fit in a GX470 Lexus built on the same frame. I would say you have to be under 6'2" and 250lbs to fit in a 4Runner for any length of time.
My mom has a 3rd gen with 120k miles and still runs like new. My dad’s friend also has a 3rd gen 4runner with over 300k miles driving back and forth from mid florida to atlanta georgia and still runs like new.
My jeep grand Cherokee 2004 has over 400 thousand miles on it no problems original motor transmission and rear ends.i have owned 7 jeeps since 1977 still have 4 of them .had one Toyota pickup 93 10 years old the frame rusted into and broke in half which is very common on them.
Just passed the 1 million mile mark on my 02 Daewoo Leganza, still original brakes and battery and tires. I change the oil every 30k miles whether it needs it or not. Been a great car.
@@hsanc72598 exactly this. Im not sure why people think I drive around with all the lights on for regular city driving haha. I even specified in the video which were for offroad and for driving.

Yes the best car I have ever driven! I own a 3rd and 5th gen. So easy to work on and fun to drive. I have never been stuck off-roading with my e locker. Over 200,000 miles on my 3rd gen and the engine looks brand new inside from constant oil changes and basic maintenance.
My 2005 4Runner is approaching 300,000 miles, got it dirt cheap in 2007, only taken it for wheel alignment and smog, engine bay is easy to work on except the starter unit. Other then that, my everyday driver.

He clearly knows you don't make cold you remove heat. Best way to remove heat fast is lower the window and open the door. Some times I have had to park in the sun clean car but just very hot. I would go to a car wash just to take the temperature down a touch.
steve m.d - It’s a signature 4Runner feature. Pretty much all 4Runners ever made have have a roll-down rear window. Nice that Toyota hasn’t given up on that tradition.
Josef Berns I am too! I don't care what anyone says, the absolute best off-road vehicles are JEEPS! Watch any video off the Rubicon Trail, or Moab, Poison Spider... Jeeps are the front runners all of the time!
Glad you mentioned KDSS. For anyone shopping 4R, take some reasonably quick corners in KDSS vs non-KDSS... X-REAS is similar (in Limited, on-road). Many debates online about the value of either over “base”, but a test-drive with a few corners will show you it’s worth it. Nice ride dude.
There are a lot knowledgeable modders on forums and aftermarket support for the 4x4 Toyotas which makes it fun to be apart of the addiction. Love the lights on 4runner. It deserves a nice coilover lift though
Finally a 4Runner!!! Awesome truck. Trouble-free vehicle with little maintenance is what I encountered. The last “It’ll take you anywhere and everywhere” vehicle.
I bought my 2016 Toyota 4Runner Trail just under 2 years ago brand new. Closing in on 70K miles and have had no issues so far. Its no surprise because Toyota emphasizes reliability. For those in the market, the 4Runner will treat you well.
@@60NXNP09 The people I see all the time are always on the Mountain Service Trail or Access Road going to or from a campsite. Once you see another vehicle on that trail coming towards you, you turn the light bar off. At dusk or at night that much light can cause someone to drive into a ditch or into a tree.

I’m very surprised no one else commented on the 4Runner frames that rusted from inside out due to Toyota’s use of inferior Chinese steel starting in the 90’s. We bought a ‘97 4Runner Limited, immaculate body, no visible rust except chrome bumpers, which we planned to replace. Mechanic inspection revealed the frame rusting issue has now made it too risky to drive. Heartbroken!
Bought it used about six years ago. We’d heard after purchasing it that Toyota had been replacing some of their newer truck frames for free. Message board comments indicated they were not replacing their inferior steel frames for older vehicles. Ours had 150,00 miles when we got it.
My 2006 4runner is one of the loves of my life, 105K miles with NO mechanical issues, auto tranny shifts perfectly, VVT-V6 runs "V8" strong. Looks beautiful, LIKE new according to friends. My other vehicle is a 2000 super clean, 78K miles Porsche Boxster. But guess which one is my reliable daily driver? You guessed it.
I love Toyotas, I own one myself. But simple, reliable lockers absolutely kick the crap out of an overly complex crawl control/trac control system by FAR. Most of the Toyota vehicles outside the U.S just have selectable front and rear lockers from the factory.
@Goldstein lol there's tons of documentation it there with the 1gr Fe surpassing 5,6,7 hundred thousand miles.... I think the 5vzfe is fantastic, but to say "nothing" is better than that, is redundant. I feel ya though... love my 3rd gen, just love my 5th gen a lil more💪👍
The lights will help me see better to never get stuck haha jk. Recovery gear is expensive and all of my lighting was completely free from partners i made. I dont go anywhere too dangerous to get stuck either but I would like to get a winch just in case.
Good thing you got those heated seats, for those chilly AZ summers. Young men used to modify the engines to get more speed, but now they are so complicated, they just put lights on them.
It may be outdated but it’s probably one of the best if not one of the toughest built vehicles out there. My 4runner was stolen and was beat to death going over curbs and sidewalks like crazy while the suspect was chased by the police. After getting it back, I took it to the shop to make sure the suspension was ok and was so worried about the suspect had ruined my vehicle. The only thing that needed to be replaced was the tires. For how much beating this SUV has taken fleeing the police going over every curb, this vehicle is truly a tank. 😎 Never has let me down. 🤘
My '92 4runner is still going strong, at a mere 179k. 2 original CV boots finally gave out, after 27 years, and so I just replaced one of the half-axles and need to do the other. I replaced the starter maybe 40k ago, the tailgate relays, and the tailgate window motor. And that's it! It did have the V6 head gasket campaign before I bought it, maybe 100k ago, and I've done a few standard things like plugs, filter, cap and rotor. But there have been no major things, and it just keeps on ticking. The only thing that tempts me to get rid of it is not having air bags or ESC, both which would be good here in the snow and ice. But for around town, through mild or deep snow, and up trails, it is a great vehicle to have.
Hema Nigansz It's sad that the v8 hasn't returned. My mpg with the v8 only averages about 1.6 mpg lower than what I average with my '18 v6 and although I think the current v6 is a bit quicker 0-60 the v8 makes the 4Runner drive like a near luxury vehicle (for that era). Even with really high miles, still smooth as silk.
CurlyGirl I think it was axed in '09. The good news for you tho as they are popular on the resale market but I wouldn't rush into anything else...nice engine
Hippie Bits they were holding their value back then, I tried to buy used but they were almost as expensive as the new. And I don’t know about the newer ones now, but at the time they were the only midsized suv that cleared all the safety hurdles. My payments were huge, but I got thru them & have never looked back. She still drives like she’s new!
