I've owned my 2019 xc40 T5 for over a year now. It's my favorite vehicle ever!

Gearshift not a problem, u get used to “double clicking” as u do on ur iPad/iPhone ... u don’t even think about it ✌️

Just picked one up 4 days ago. T5 R-Design. I absolutely love it. Nothing I would change.

The idea behind the double-bump gear change is to prevent accidental gear selection while utilizing the center console. Say, while inserting your beverage in a cup holder or by simply bumping it with your hand by accident. Remember, there is no detent with this device. There is no locking “slot” for D or R. It’s easily bumped, like a joystick. The double-bump is a well-thought out implementation to prevent accidental changing of gear.

Best safety car ever, great driving feeling, comfy seats, luxury but not excessive, great reliability and now more than ever they looks gorgeous! I had to choose between a lexus and volvo...both are killers but l ended up with my s60, don’t regret a thing about it. :)

The 360-degree camera immensely helping me avoid damaging my wheels on tight parking spot with curbs. Love it.

YAAAAYY!!! I’m so excited I came across your page!!!! FIRST let me say, this was a GREAT review, best I’ve seen for the XC40!!! So, I’ve had my Toyota Camry (brand new when I got it) since 2010, so I’m very much overdue for an upgrade. And part of the reason I haven’t upgraded yet is that I haven’t come across anything that I’ve really just loved and wanted to have, in both sedan and suv. With having my Camry for so long I do know I really want something that is different and sleek to the eye but also something that isn’t going to be ridiculously priced because this will be my everyday vehicle. I had narrowed my search down to two smaller SUV’s, the Volvo XC40 (possibly XC60 but most likely the XC40) and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. I fell in love with the look of the exterior and interior of the Stelvio immediately and I was set on getting that suv!!! BUT, the more I researched and the more reading I did about the Stelvio the more I was not happy with this suv. It’s reliably, maintenance, and a few other things are some of the first things I think about when I purchase a new vehicle. Also, I was not aware until very recently that Fiat Chrysler owned the Alfa Romeo brand. That’s a no go 🙅🏻‍♀️ for me. Now, I’m pretty much obsessed with the XC40 and I’m 99.98% sure it’s the suv I’m going to buy! I do always keep my eye out for a sedan or suv that stands out and has a different look than others on the road but I don’t think I’m going to find anything that draws my attention more than the look of this particular suv! For now anyway!! Thanks for the great review because I haven’t done a test drive yet and it was great to really see the inside in more depth than what is on the Volvo website!!!

I absolutely love my super sexy hot red R design! Traded in my BMW and not look’n back! This car is sporty, fun to drive, safe and incredibe technology.

I've owned the car one 5 months now ... feels like I just picked it up today. The gear shift isn't even noticeable after after two days!!! It is the greatest car I've every owned!!!!!

Great video! Just a quick question regarding the pedals. I'm 5'10 and my shoe size is 11.5 (US). How do the gas and brake pedals feel? Do you feel or sense any discomfort? Does the middle console affect your driving by any chance? Thank you!

So I will say I've driven this car for over a year now and the shifter is absolutely the best feature in the entire car. It feels odd for about a week and then you'll realize how much better it is. Those two clicks can be done much faster and more precisely than a regular shifter can it just takes a little to get used to. The navigation system is amazing as well. it shows up in between the dials and tells you how far your next turn is and which lane you need to be in to make that turn. Overall incredible choice purchasing one of these and I've loved every moment of it.

No physical control knobs can still be minimalistic, and a deal breaker. No idea on reliability or weight. More stats please. Shifter is poorly thought out.

Just picked up my xc40 and it’s safe as a car can be. With that being said this car get up is crazy feels like I’m in complete control of everything on the road.

Just found out about these yesterday. Pretty sure I’m going to get one soon as I can.

It's a smooth ride. It's a better look with 20 inch wheels. There's an app where you can start the car remotely, lock doors and locate the car. The only thing if you get the black interior, it always seems dark in the vehicle. The shifter does have a nice feel. I love the 360 camera because I'm always parallel parking. I love my Volvo!

The engine is too weak. It struggles on the highway ramp.

the interior is refreshing compared to a cluttered claustrophobic BMW or Merc

Have an xc 40 from new in December 2019. Had a Jaguar xe before but need a wheelchair for my wife so got the x 40 r design automaticProblems started in January when the car kept changing into manual without warning.revs went to 6000 but managed to control it with the paddles.been in the Volvo dealership twice and cannot be sorted.going in again in a couple of days yet again.would not go to auto all the way home a few days ago..love the look of the car and way it drives normally but this fault is driving me mad.have only done 1100 miles since new .Hope Volvo can cure fault but am not hopeful as they do not seem very interested.will keep fingers crossed.there is a recall also re the brakes and this will be done when cargoes in. Gef the bike

You got voice control. It really helps. Raise temp in seats. Turn radio up and many other things.

I have had an XC60 D5 AWD, for the last 5 years, yesterday I ordered the XC40 T5 Inscription Pro - Hybrid.

Omg I yest drove one of these gorgeous XC40S when they first came out. I just wish I could afford one! I want one so bad!!

The biggest gripe I have: the Volvo UX (user experience) of the infotainment software... It is the LEAST intuitive layout. It's smooth but man it's difficult to navigate the audio/input/scan controls for example.

I drove one over the weekend while my xc60 was getting serviced and loved it..I had the denim color, butter interior..it drove so well..

I would like to ask for how much will cost me ownership of this car? Lets say after 100 000miles, how much cost me together all services as I follow service intervals. How many miles I can make, what is life expectancy of the engine?

I’ll say the gear shift sounded weird before I got the car, but I absolutely love you get completely used to it and don’t even notice that you are pressing it, I would much rather have this than buttons to change gears.

Just go with a push button......Nooooooo!! Car makers hear people like you say that and so they switch to electronic shifters and then critics complain about them and people dont buy them. Leave the shifter alone...its unique and stylish. But personally...I'll wait for the 400hp recharge version.

It's not a crossover! It was built as an SUV and always was an SUV. It isn't based on a normal car.

Aggressively priced!!! You're joking, here in the UK its expensive and basic with most options making you dig deep in your pocket, for example how can they charge £300 for android auto/apple CarPlay. I took one for a drive and my wife and i weren't that impressed and decided to buy a Peugeot 3008 fully loaded and better priced.

Mines a 2021 T3. Very pretty inside n out, engine isn't great though, bit rough but just about powerful enough. Not good on fuel. Anti collision braking is a nuisance though and you have to switch off every trip.

How comfortable is the driver’s seat? This is a deal maker/breaker for me.

No it's not the best to buy today. Not in my book. The Apple Carplay integration is cryptic and poorly implemented with such small window. The gear shift has it's very own Volvo experience. Instead of having a button to push to switch directly between forward and reverse or vice-versa, we need to push it twice. Manageable but unnecessary. For manual shifting, the stick movement should be sideways. Sideways! ...Most cars have the usual sideway push for manual operation and then push forward or backwards to change gears. Volvo believes it's best to change gears (up or down) with sideway movement. Also, if for any reason you need full power from the engine for quick acceleration while driving in normal modes, you need to wait endless time until the ECU realizes you really want the full power from the hybrid powertrain. ...usually when it finally gives it all, you no longer need it. It's the 200hp+ slowest acceleration car I've experience so far. The car is comfortable and filters well the road surface, but it's a bit on the stiff side. The boot space is also a bit shy considering many other offers in this segment.

NO. Don't eliminate the shifter. Go back to a normal one. They've just been overdesigning something that wasn't bad in the first place.

My friend has one, it’s fabulous. He had to wait 5 months to get it and the waiting is even more now. Beautiful and distinctive in a sea of German lookalikes. The wheels look fab. And orange carpets? What a breath of fresh air!!

When you said the infotainment system was a lot more responsive than earlier versions, which ones are you comparing to? I'm wondering because I want to know if the 2019 or 2018 versions of the XC40's infotainment system are going to feel sluggish.

I have had 3 Mazdas and I can tell you Volvo and Mazda are very much alike without the price tag

Mine has 4C active chassey and addaptive suspension. It wasn't included by default, so you can add it if you want, at least in Europe, but id does make the ride comfortable, so the difference is there.

We have a 2020 UX 200. We didn't get the F Sport because of all those gaudy and headache inducing red accents. Volvo has not been stellar in the dependability department lately, which is concerning considering how few Volvo dealerships are out there. But it definitely has a lovely exterior and many little design accents, if that's what you're looking for. My best friend's wife bought the Recharge and swears by it. So that's good. Both these cars are geared toward mostly a single person or a couple. Trying to push this or the UX to do family hauling is a STRETCH. Very professional presentation. Tks.

Americans have a really weird idea of what "luxury" means. Theres no way that the XC40 is "luxury" , its more "premium" than an average car, but luxury is a ridiculous stretch.

It's hard plastic everywhere and the ride is not smooth at all. We just test drove one and we then drove the Genesis GV70, no comparison. I'm willing to pay more for the feel of the GV70.

Luxury my hind quarters, i got a brand new inscription, the seating is horrible and uncomfortable and as flat as a pan cake after driving on motorway for a few hours and you get out of the car , talk about feel as stiff as a board , I’m afraid my next car is not going to be a Volvo i have driven volvo’s most of my life the xc40 is the worst to drive , it’s only good to look at

You guys are great... when you're in Carlisle (if there is a Carlisle this year) swing by the Volvo Dealer in Mechanicsburg and I'll be glad to let you take any of our cars for a spin and quick review. With the heated seats, don't forget that there is a climate setting to let the heated seats and wheel turn on automatically to the level you want when it's cold. I very rarely have to use the touch screen to adjust it. Also, none of the XC40s are build in China... they are built in Belgium. I find the shifter to offer really positive control and have fewer mis shifts with the XC40 than the other lines. Frankly if there isn't a clutch, I don't care much how it goes into gear =-D 4C is available actually. I have only ordered one in with it and that was last year, but it's still on the options list for R design and Inscription. (last year it was available across the board)

FINALLY Volvo moves to Aisin transmissions. The Jatco AW55 absolutely destroyed Volvo’s reputation for long-term reliability.

I guess im the only one who feels the vertical orientation of the screen and vents disrupts any cars default horizontal orientation (e.g. dashboard being horizontal)

I have a new Volvo XC40 T3 R Design this is my favourite car ever. The drive and comfort is brilliant I even have a sun roof which I love. This is our fourth Volvo and would not drive anything else. I even have a trash can 😊

We have driven our xc40 nearly in 2 years now. We where the first hwo got the xc40 in April 2018 in our town. We love this car. Maybe next year we buy a new one.
