Funny how people in general have been fooled to think that a car with the age of 12 years is "old car". It is not old, not even close. When a car has age of 20-30 years, you can say it is oldish, but still such cars are very much usable as daily drivers. I have 2004 volvo v70 and the car still feels amazing and has all the basic comforts that are actually important to have, everything works and the ride is smooth. It even looks modern because volvo made it right. It is classic and elegant and has a pinch of sporty touch. But it seems like car industry, politics and media has succeeded in brainwashing people and people think that if the car has been in use for 5 years it should be trashed and brand new model be bought right away because we love to waste perfectly good things.
@@erroristmusic Yes. I don't really need nor want all that modern smart technology. The basic comforts are enough that you can find in quality cars made between 1990-2010. After that they started adding really unnecessary stuff and plastic everywhere even in engine parts that will not last and can cause major issues or even break the whole damn engine. Luxury cars made in the 90s and 00 were robust. Fact is that the more you have electronics and technology in your car and fancy mechanics, the more you will have maintenance issues and costs.
I owned a v70 d5 for 10 years. It was the best car I've owned. I loved the torque and the sound it made. It would climb the steepest hills like they weren't there. Nice.
I have a 2010 V70 R-Design w/3.2 six cylinder gas engine. Bought it with 185k miles on it but a one owner car with maintenance history. As a US driver I've never noticed the "poor" turning circle. The ride in the R-Design is a little firmer on rough roads but it handles much better than my 07 Volvo S80 V8 AWD. I'm 6'6" and have plenty of headroom even with sunroof. This V70 is my sixth Volvo wagon (estate) and, by far, the best. It's primarily my dog hauler but I really enjoy driving it.
3:09 I’ve owned this exact car for ten years and 130,000 miles and have never accidentally hit the satnav buttons. Getting out of the car and turning on the wipers is another matter though 😊😊😊 I have no hesitation in saying that when I eventually sell or write off or have it stolen I will buy another mk3 2016 as it’s been the best car of my long life!
@@dpayne8611: You sound quite bitter and triggered by other people’s personal choices/preferences (especially when you consider that this isn’t the only comment thread/post you’ve responded to, on this video), like a person condemning someone else for liking a particular type of food. It’s as cringey as it is, obnoxiously immature and off-putting. What would you, in your infinite wisdom, suggest, instead, oh all-knowing, wise guru?
Hi George. Great review. I've got the sat nav in my xc90, it's surprisingly good. I drove a 300 round trip recently and found it Informative and clear to follow. There should be a remote for it too.
I had an 'X' reg V70 T5 for three years (2004-2007). Fully loaded including phone, drop down dog guard (for over friendly dogs), heated seats, pop-up GPS screen included TV. I converted it to also run on LPG. I absolutely loved the car.
Thanks for this-I've had my R-Design V70 for a couple of years now, and it's one of the best cars I've driven in 30 years. I've had cars as good, but none better.
very well done George! I'm not a big car guy, but this review is very entertaining and informative. So thorough, and pro! Shows how much you love cars haha. Cheers Daddy George!! Little guy is coming sooooon!!! So exciting!!!
Good review my tip is get the 2009/2010 without the satnav with the 17inch alloys, the dashboard looks mush cleaner without the satnav which doesn't end up dating the car and in truth doesn't work very well anyway , you will find if you have 17inch alloys you will have a more comfortable ride plus your whole suspension will be in much better shape , in my mind on a v70 makes sense they are a heavy car ,but are fantastic on the motor way's and long county roads which I believe the car was made for there a great safe reliable family car with more than enough horse power to make the drive enjoyable .
I love the sound of 5 cylinder engine on both diesel or petrol engines. It one of the reaaons why I would buy it. For me car has to make good sound, not too loud either though
kinda surprised to see you talk about it drinking fuel, compared to what? i've been driving a 08 d5 xc70 for years and its usually in the mid 30's (british mpg, 8.5l/100 km) this is a almost 1900kg car with all wheel drive.. i dont feel it being hard to park either, its probably the best family hauler we have owned, hence we are still holding on to it allthough its now 15 years old and has 260k on the clock
No Bluetooth? That awkward - I had that feature in my s60 61 plate... It is the same shape but who knows, maybe v70 was a slightly different with equipment Nice wheels
How tall are you ?I now have v50 but it is not big car...v70 is my dream car and i wonder how big is inside...i am 195cm tall. What version of D5 motor is this ?
I'm 198cm & I don't have any space issues, my car however has no sunroof, I'd imagine that if it did it could be pretty tight for headroom. My engine is 2.0 5 cylinder diesel with 136 bhp & will actually manage 40 mpg around town.
I have a 2012 V70 D5 and I get 30+ mpg to and from the shops with a light right foot. On the motorway I get 45+. It is not bad at all. The car is comfortable, powerful and the turning circle is not that bad, I have no problems with it.
Gearbox is the main downfall of this car. Its just so irritating, in manual mode it does improve a bit, but again its slow to respond so you need to be used to driving the car to predict how the gearbox will behave.
I have a new to me 2014 D5 XC70 and aside from a list of expensive issues I’m currently sorting out it’s great. Averaging high 20’s mpg around town and high 30’s on a longer run, so coming from a Discovery 4 that’s amazing! I was surprised the Discovery has a better turning circle.
@@ash3rr £1,200 and counting, waiting on new rear springs, the radar for the cruise control, the air conditioning and potentially a gearbox. Having said that, it’s done 136,000 miles.
You reviewers take a big old Volvo estate which most people would expect to be a plodder, then start comparing it with the R type or whatever. I want to know about the vehicle you are reviewing., not the twin turbo, faster, all singing, all dancing sport model.
geartronic is shite unreliable as fook. d5 is good but keep up with the aux belt or it snaps and goes behind the cam belt then snaps the casting around the lifter 1k + without labour had loads d5 is great powerful torque why anyone wants a auto is beyond me.
