After some positive comments from another RU-vid motovlogger on recent content I thought I would indulge the secret love of keenly priced 125cc machines we have on this channel. The Zontes ZT125-U1 has 14.5hp, 6-speed, a slipper clutch, tubeless rims, weighs just 150kg (with fuel) and it's just a laugh plain and simple. I honestly really like these little bikes because for such a small outlay you can get into and access the fun of motorcycling...

I love it when regular people say, "Ooh! Wot's that mate?!" And you tell them what it is and they say, "I had a CG125/RD125/CB250 back in the day.." I always say, "Have a sit on it, mate!" And they throw a leg over it and they're 18 again and there's that shy grin from the recall of happy memories. Some times they come out with an amazing story of tragic bravado or silly sentimentality. Then they get off and ask how much it cost and what it does to the gallon and all the other questions you ask when you're a grown up.

I had one of these from the Midwest Moto as my first bike when I passed my CBT in June 22. I loved the thing and wished I had kept it. I moved onto a 650 now I have my full licence but the Zontes was so much fun as a starter bike.

I was looking at this very bike as my first 125cc, the dealer didn't have any in stock, so ended up with an Aprilia Tuono 125. Both these models are at the top end of the legal limit in terms of power for a 125, which is what I was looking for. Paid £4600 for my Aprilia and only had it 10 months until I passed my A licence. Traded it in and lost a heap of cash, so in hindsight the Zontes might have been the better option..... Great video and loving seeing where you are riding and trying to recognise any landmarks. Right need to finish watching you Fantic comparisons now !🤣

Thanks MB appreciate the comment. I did find the ZT 125 surprisingly sprightly for a 125cc, I think they are right up close to the 15hp legal limit as with your Aprilia. I've been offered a savage trade in value for my current bike so currently stuck ... Do I realise a loss or keep with it... Hmmm 🤔. Well anyway congratulations 👏🎉 on passing your A licence and enjoy some happy smiles per miles on your new bike 👍🙏

Great review mate! 👌 As for the bike, I don't care what anyone says. A good 125 to 200cc light, nippy, well made bike is a joy to own and ride. I'm 46,riding since 10, I own a 2008 Tenere 660 which I love but I'm sold for this little thing. I rode the 155 version of this for a few days and it's a hoot, sips fuel, goes down the twisties like a house fly. Since the days of long journeys on bike seem to be over, I see no harm on putting a deposit down for one of these. Also, quality wise it has nothing to be afraid of my Tenere. On the contrary 🙄

Great comment and I love a small little bike too. Also how nice is it to have a lightweight bike like this and it's got the crash protection included so if you drop it no problem to pick up and no damage! Great.

@@MindfulMotorcyclist A bike like this with crash bars feels like a major anxiety factor of riding is being removed. I have enough things to worry about while I ride, not worrying about the cost of it is sooo nice 😁

Great review mate I own the 350 version of this in black done nearly 5000 miles mainly commuting no signs of corrosion build quality really good but I do look after it.Had a couple of small problems when first purchased but just minor all quickly sorted under warranty.

Thanks Paul for the comment. I rode the 350 version and gosh it felt fast for its displacement lovely and nimble around town but I had to cut the countryside segment from my review as I was riding a bit too eagerly 😂😂. Glad to see you got your problems sorted quickly, that's the mark of a good brand/warranty... Thanks 👍😊

I have the road version. Tho everything needs maintained including the stock chain more regulary than Japanese branded bikes. My stock chain is trashed at 1,000 miles. But the weight can be deadly riding in the wind it pushes you about.

I am confused as to what this bike is supposed to be, it’s a mix of Yamaha MT headlight, sports bike seat and tail piece and scrambler wheels

Good vid. I am a novice at 55yrs old and bought one of these last July. Absolutely love it. Have 2000 km on it with no probs. Do 66km a day to work and get great fun from it. Cheap as chips to run from Insurance to fuel. The only thing I`ll disagree with you is that the wing mirrors are useless. No matter what position I put them in all I could see were my elbows. Bought handle bar end mirrors and happy days!

Thanks for the comment Dave, I was watching one of these on Ebay last week it went for £1250, very poor ad and pictures it was a bargain. I was very tempted for the reasons you outline. Such a fun little machine and many smiles per mile...

maybe you have wider shoulders ? maybe that is the reason ? i have a 52 in chest so no doubt i would have the same issue with the mirrors ?

Nice package and quite compelling for me. I am awaiting my test and so I am 125 bound currently. (Though mine may not be as 125 as it was!) I have a 15 year old Varadero and I keep telling myself that it’s more fun riding a low power bike fast than a high powered bike slow! However a recent touring holiday from my home in the Cambridgeshire fens to mid Wales showed me that perhaps a 300cc might be nice in order to cope with hills a bit better 😂
@MindfulMotorcyclist
@MindfulMotorcyclist 10 месяцев назад
Well firstly good on you got touring on a 125cc, so glad to see people doing this and proving you don't need 170bhp and £27,000 to do long distance rides on two wheels. I'm currently riding my 500DSX which has 471cc and that's taken me to Norway and back so whilst I could've had more power for the motorway stretches 95% of the time it was perfect. If 300cc is your target then the Zontes 310T mini adventure bike might suit.... Not ridden it myself but looks light and capable...

great video, you certainly have a talent for this sort on thing, im not a biker but have been looking into the cbt 125 thing , this may seem a silly question to you but can you adjust the speedometer to mph ? thanks again keep up the great work.
@MindfulMotorcyclist
@MindfulMotorcyclist 14 дней назад
Thank you for the kind comment. In most of these bikes you can press and hold a button and convert it to MPH. That is a benefit of the LCD type displays. Cheers.

I have a 125cc in my bunch of bikes and it has now 4500km, I have it almost three years. It easy to go around the city and small roads but I did a 200km drive with it as well. I take it with me in my van when I go on holliday to Spain and it performed well in the mountains around Santiago de Compostela and to the coast at Rianxo. No real problems only it needed two new batteries and under warranty the bushes of the rear fork where replaced. Top speed 110km/h, uses 2,5 to 3L per 100km. Weight is 136kg wet (dry 127 ) 12HP. Mash 125 Falcone 2020.

Rear fork? Motorcycles have a fork on the front and usually a single shock on the back

"only" 150 kg? I would consider that heavy for a 125cc bike. The Honda cb125f is 117kg with full fuel and oil. That is a massive difference. I get that they are somewhat different bikes but no 125cc should be heavier than 130 kilos unless it has heavy crash bars (not as on this bike) or is a maxi scooter with high specs.
