@@gingerinajacket8519 that's why it's an understandable mistake, the two swords are used y the same group (mainly cavalry) at different points it time, also Knight swords weren't really a thing, as several swords of several design and use could have been used based on time period and personal preference, and quite often was a back up weapon for when lances broke or they where dismounted.
Fun Fact: Sherlock Holmes, though never inventing hologram technology, did in his books develop a chemical method to determine whether blood was that of a human or an animal. This was a technology that, at the time, was purely fictional. Forensic scientists reading his adventures realized that such a forensic tool would be invaluable, and set about making it a reality. Additionally, Star Trek directly inspired wireless phones, Spiderman's villain The Kingpin used an ankle monitor before they were a thing and Wonder Woman's writer invented the polygraph.
Crazy how fictional concepts affect reality, but it makes total sense when you think about it. "Only by detaching ourselves from reality, can we discover the true nature of reality." ~someone I don't remember
There's a *proven* realization in the AA community that Herlock Sholmes was truly a master of the art in deduction. Every time the answer to a case was in visible investigations reach, sholmes was already infinitely higher and faster than you. In TGAA1-4p3, in the garrideb's household, sholmes is already *looking out and investigating the window* like an absolute planner. He knew the inconsistencies with the body, just as any deductive man could. And to explain why he gone as far as to keep his deductions wrong, he was teaching Ryunosuke to stay on his feet the whole time, slowing down the pace for those like him, for a good teaching lesson. And that is why I like sholmes, he fits my arts perfectly.
And don't forget, the second Ryunosuke is out of the picture while he and Mikotoba investigate the Judge's room on the steamliner, suddenly he stops throwing out wrong deductions and investigates without fault, he and Mikotoba simply tossing the baton back and forth like a game.
@@TooneyD Wow, I always thought that his wrong deductions were because he was missing his partner, and having Mikotoba allowed him to complete his train of thought faster, but that makes more sense as to why he's considered brilliant while saying the utmost idiotic things.
My mind just blew up. I always thought that he was just being silly and screwing up on purpose... ...but it turns out that it was all a ruse. He really was 3 steps afoot.
@Lene Lampe All throughout the game, but especially the final case. If you look at where he is in the scene where he appears, it's always a key clue. Like how he's looking out the window where the knife fell for the case where the woman was stabbed in the back. And during the final case he's working his old partner which shows you his true intellect. During the game he intentionally says dumb things to make you (both Ryunosuke and the player) look closely and find the proper solution. The majority of his "deductions" are so wild there's no way anyone could come up with that. By saying something incredibly dumb, he hints that he wants you to find the proper answer. And if you say something wrong, he'll try to guide you to the proper answer.
He is just: what balsphemy is this he is there but he isn't!? What the fuck??? Can't wait for TGAA 3 where herlock invents a time machine and shows van zieks what facebook mom groups are lol
@@tessoup9022 Iris: herlock i need to borrow your top Herlock: im afraid ill have to decline my dear, this is my favorite shirt Iris, leaving with mikotoba: not what i meant
I like how the developers learned their lesson from Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney Having a smart detective would render the lawyer protagonists completely useless every time the detective is on-screen but at the same time, a dumb detective would probably annoy the players so the devs found a compromise; Herlock is actually smart but he only _pretends_ to be incompetent as a way of coaching the still-rookie lawyer. This way, players would still feel accomplished playing as the lawyer without making their companions feel useless
"Mikotoba, do you think the Lord Chief Justice might be the head of the Reaper organization?" "Oh that's nonsense Sholmes, besides, even if he was, you'd only be able to jail him using the Queen herself!" "aight bet"
"hey Sholmes, I bet you can't invent a brilliant new technology, meet the queen, and indict the lord chief of justice all at the same time!" *"Challenge accepted"*
I think the funniest thing about this is the hologram of Sholmes dancing at the witness' stand like Hatsune Miku while Strongheart, Kazuma, and van Zieks look on in absolute pain and terror
As someone who hasn’t played this yet I have 2 things to say: 1. Awesome soundtrack 2. This game appears to be a clusterfuck of cultures. We got buckingham palace, Japanese names, AND HERLOCK SHOLMES WEARING JAPANESE CLOTHES
@@Piscestriker context: The characters with Japanese names are in fact from Japan. They have traveled to Britain as an arrangement for law study. Sholmes's outfit is a DLC pack that switches styles of characters. Also, like the originals aren't also a mix of cultures anyway?
@idknewguy6224 The fact that she is an 8 year old that apparently has the best damn tea blend in the United Kingdom (a crowning achievement for sure for that era) who is an associate and surrogate daughter of the 2nd most popular person in London only behind Queen Victoria herself also helps with that.
this scene was like watching the heavens open up and hearing that angelic choir. a true religious experience, i was screaming with disbelief the entire time
@@stephenfong1144 it is something I was dying to experience again from an ace attorney game ever since I played the original game, it was like a much needed breath of fresh air and I loved every second of it
You know, everyone's all impressed with Holmes in this scene, but my focus is on someone different. Namely, the fact that at the start, everyone's cheering Stronghart's name loudly, and then... Naruhodo SLAMS the desk - and they all shut up. They all know what him acting confident like this means - some shit's about to go down.
Full honesty: I have not played a single game and from how my friends explained it this series gets crazy in the most fun ways possible. So when I saw the title I kinda expected Sholmes to be a ghost who had the ultimate trump card to win the case.
Ghosts are very common in this game. In fact, Phoenix is often aided by a dead lawer ghost who temporarily posesses her sister in court, which is a sentence you might not have expected from a game about attorneys.
mans went thru a rollercoaster of emotions learning the truth abt his brother -- sholmes' bs is just the last thing that would make me lose it too lmaooaoa
I love at 6:01, I know it's part of Iris character and she's young so it makes sense, but I just love how she so casually refers the fucking queen of the British empire (who I'd assume is one of the most powerful people in the world at the time) as Vicky, no different to how she talks to us and susato and sholmes
I mean, this 8 year old has everything going in favor of calling her Vicky, because she has the best tea blend in the British Empire (a crowning achievement at the time for sure), is the associate and surrogate daughter of the 2nd most popular person in London only behind the Queen herself, speaking of Herlock it is very obvious through inference that she does that as a way of doting on a person, and would become immediately obvious the second that she calls Herlock "Hurley" so it is in good light, and on top of that spoilers if you click read more. She is a van Zeiks/Baskerville, so she is in a higher standing even if she doesn't know it. In short everything related to the situation was in favor of at least for that encounter calling her Vicky.
@@gingerinajacket8519 Also the Queen herself would probably find it hilarious and sweet. Even a queen should know that kids don't really follow that kind of rules unless properly taught beforehand.
I mean she says "her majesty" in the next sentence, so I'm sure she understands the proper address, I imagined that as more of a flex of how she's now on a first-name basis with the queen to further give them the authoritative upper ground over Stronghart
stronghart's breakdown where he had his beloved "justice" falling quite literally over him while he burns frollo-style has to be one of the best in the entire saga
My man literally broke time and space to steal technology from the freaking future to prank a courtroom. He needs to return if there's a future game. I don't care how, but Time-Travelling Sholmes is something we need.
Both Great Ace Attorney games were probably the best ever honestly... its the first time the 2 games followed a continued narrative and no case was filler, the amount of character growth and complexity these cases had really surpassed everything before! all the faults that Ace Attorney had were really improved (not totally fixed, but still a great step forward), like holy shit, perjury was actually adressed! xD
It is being guilty of so much that the scales used to convict him broke from the amount of guilt, and cartwheeled into the jury, bringing the brazier of guilt down on top of him and his form of justice.
I just spoiled myself for the ending of a game, and I don't regret it. The Judge's breakdown was the coolest thing I have ever seen. Also, Herlock Sholmes managed to invent holograms before telophones were common, and I want to know how and why he did it, and if someone can give him a nobel prize or something, he deserves it 100%.
Knowing Sholmes, he probably did receive such an award for some miracle compound he casually invented on accident when trying to create a wacky chemical that would help with investigations somehow, like an elixir for instant mustache growth or something. He then forgot about the award as he giddily went off to do some other shenanigans and the Nobel Prize has been stuck in the couch cushions ever since.
This had me confused because I never expected Herlock Sholmes to be that intelligent. Since I've played all games, I'm pretty used to cases that are quite unrealistic, but still, bruh. I'm glad you've enjoyed it, though.
Herlock basically spends the first 7 cases of GAA that he's involved in pretending to be a bumbling fool. The reason his deductions are always just slightly off is because he's used to Mikotoba being there to bounce off. Herlock has basically spent the last 10 years working on this case, so when it's finally time to bring Stronghart to justice, he drops the bumbling act and we get to see the real "greatest detective".
@@DeusExProcella The opposite actually. He's trying to teach Ryunosuke and Susato the "art of deduction". There's a lot of circumstantial evidence and a few decisive ones that point towards him just acting like a fool for most of the game (the Stradivarius and red hair incidents aren't contrary to this since it displays his impulsivity and being scatterbrained more). During serious moments, especially those where Ryunosuke isn't present, he does show his true face from time to time. His background actions in 1-2, him pushing Ryunosuke to be the locum student, guiding Susato on what to do for the events of 1-5 despite it being a criminal offense, the fact that he actually managed to figure out on his own half of the mystery behind the four names (he was partially wrong due to him not being privy of some crucial information ofc), and subtle hints of him already figuring out the whole truth behind 1-4 (he guides Ryunosuke towards the landlords and explicitly states that a single piece of evidence will make them talk), does not point out to someone who is, as you imply, someone dependent on a partner to deduce for him. EDIT: You can actually work out that he's very much aware of his "deductions" being wrong whenever you give incorrect answers during the Course Correction segments. He actually makes a comment guiding you where the right answer may be for most of these scenarios. That and, Iris may be a prodigy but geniuses are born AND taught, which means her knowing and having mastered abductive reasoning (she displays this when you first meet her and she actually gets all of them right) heavily implies that she had a teacher, and a very good one at that.
@@Revoltine yeah, though as much as he taught them the art of deduction, Herlock's deductions (the real ones), are way above that level, since his deductions are at a point where it puts him in a position of planning so many things in advance
@@Revoltine totally correct. I just laughed at some incorrect deductions that are so zanny that everybody would see they are wrong. So of course, and checking the others very specific tips he gave in some key points, I saw what he was doing. By means of obfuscating stupidity we has both being a stealth mentor to them and also playing possum so that he could strike at the right moment when needed. Because who will you be more afraid? An very intelligent guy or a bumbling Buffon.
I was disappointed in his localized name bc hart vortex just sounds so much cooler, but I never realized they kept the japanese chanting here. vortex lives on!
Sherlock tattling to the queen is funny enough but I love how he also invented holographic communications devices just so he could do it to Stronghart's face. 😂
So this video got past my friend's filters to avoid DGS2 spoilers. He saw the thumbnail and now he thinks that Sholmes will be the prosecutor for Case 5. Fortunately he's said this through text, because I don't think I could keep a straight face in person. What a wonderful unintentional misdirect.
Unironically (not acting as sholmes rn) sholmes walking towards the witness stand while resolve of ryunosuke naruhodo plays is one of the best moments in the whole series imo
OBJECTION! The guilty scale of the Old Bailey weighed down by 12 fireballs, falling down on the judge of the trial after his idea of "fighting fire with fire" just went up in smoke is the most satisfying scene in any game. Better than Damon Gant's breakdown because even if he was the chief of police, it wasn't as insurmountable as the literal judge being tried as guilty himself.
For a while I thought he was ADHD, drawing wild conclusions from almost nothing. I never thought I could assign himbo energy to a Sherlock parody, and that a lot of the brains was in the 8 year old companion. Finally playing through to conclusion, the steps make a lot more sense in context, even if the actual methods were weird and unfathomable. All that time I just thought he sine waved between being an amazing detective and a himbo, but actually it was just a clever ruse. He could use some work on his impulse control though, buying every single form of typewriter he could find was a dumb maneuver, even if he spun it around to being really, really smart (using his own fame to turn them into memorabilia). Even I could think that if this disk was so important, and we needed a specific kind of player for it, we wouldn't figure out the correct one through trial and error. I don't care if it was an elaborate ruse to make sure Kazuma was out of the picture and you went in his stead, it was utterly ridiculous to think you looked anything like a Russian revolutionary.
@@johnblunt6693 It wasn't really time travel; the whole thing was essentially a simulation Phoenix programmed to sway the jury. I can't remember if he claimed it was all recorded from the information his tiny hat-camera collected, or if he said it was based on that information; either way, none of it should've been admissible in court, especially given the context of the case and his connection to all the events. Either way, the player has to present information to people in the simulated/recorded past with evidence gained in the future.
I remember playing through this case and thinking that it couldn't be it, it couldn't be that the Ryunosuke would crack the case in court and Herlock just wouldn't do anything. Herlock did something alright!

This entire segment had me out of my chair and cheering. Hands down in the top 3 hyper moment for the entire series. Everything, EVERYTHING came together so perfectly here.
I had walked into this case with slight yet powerful spoilers, knowing all the breakdowns, which also meant I knew most of the villains. The one thing is, I didn’t know HOW they got to the point of breaking down. I can tell you that when it got to this part of the final case, I couldn’t stop smiling! I never expected the QUEEN to be the last hope to stop Stronghart, and it was sold so perfectly. I only recently did this part of the game, and my god did it have me flipping out. Herlock's actions suprised the hell out of me. First I thought he was projecting everything to the common people, but he projected it to the QUEEN?! Almost fell out of my chair.
The entire thing about Sherlock showing up with EXACTLY the thing necessary to save the day might be a deus ex machina, but it definitely the best damn deus ex machina I have ever seen This deus ex machina didn't solve anything, everyone in that courtroom knew all the facts, and there was no hope of stopping this colluding pseudo jury from carrying this out without recourse. All looks lost... the only thing Sherlock did was made sure that every victory you had for the last what felt like 5 hours of deliberation counted. Rather than solve everything himself, he used a deus ex machina to made sure that the story mattered, and I think that is perfectly fine upon reflection. My only issue was holograms? Couldn't Sherlock sneak the queen into the audience with like a fake mustache and glasses? It just kind of felt... out of place given the fact we had literally discussed that teleportation was unreasonable to have in a trial canonically 8-10 days ago.
@@dbclass4075 Ok, what if she was surrounded by Buckingham palace guards when she gets brought up to the witness stand? Just as funny, and with Sherlock dancing in person
I think the game just had low budget. Modelling the queen of england would have been too expensive and time consuming. Besides, Iris and Holmes both have previously showcased technology from the future and we’ve seen holograms prior in the ace attorney universe, so it isn’t as big of a stretch.

It is the best kind of Deus Ex Machina. On its own it solves absolutely nothing, but when presented the only thing it does is crest past the last little bit of the mountain and make sure the last what felt like 5 hours of the game counted.
