Like his pal and best tenor ever, Fritz Wunderlich, Prey was so unpretentious, anti-snobbish, earthy and a wonderfully spontaneous singer/actor. Miss him so.
I miss him so so much, never met him, yes I went to his concert twice but I fell in love with his talent, voice and personality when I was 19 or 20 years old. I never forget what he left in my heart. He even made it hard me to fall in love with someone else, funny.
I’ve always liked his smile and air of mischief he gives off while singing. It’s not a simple vocal performance and that comes across just in his voice as Well.
It's amazing!!! How at ease Prey looked on a TV set! And how contagious was (and still is) the joy irradiating from him! Yes, Prey was a truly blessed artist; and he will be always worthy of the highest praise for having shared his blessing this and many other ways with the humblest - people like me, who can't read a score sheet... - to the greatest glory of Music, in general, and Classical Music, in particular. Thank you, very, very much, for uploading this video here!
Thank you so much - Prey was a great singer - to switch from duetting with a non-singer back into an operatic role with ease, not many can do it and sound convincing let alone look as though they are genuinely enjoying doing both! What a treat to watch.
Thanks for your kind words (and for the links) my sister in Germany found the DVD on a discount rack at a department store and sent it over. I've been in England for 40 years now and it surely brought back happy memories as my Mum loved Hermann Prey as well, we never used to miss when he was on TV.
This video is from the Peter Alexander Show from 03/12/1972 where Hermann Prey was the star guest. I took it from a Peter Alexander DVD called 'Die schönsten Show-Momente Folge 1. As far as I know Hermann Prey never had his own TV Show, I came to England in1968 and had there been one my sister would have let me know. I hope this helps.

This is good to know, though in his autobiography he mentions that he did host his own TV show on ZDF the title of it was "Schaut her, ich's bin," This was the program to which I was referring. Apparently he began this program in 1967. It really would be great to have it available to view.
Das stimmt.Hermann Prey war für so etwas immer zu haben.Und auch Fritz Wunderlich,der leider zu diesem Zeitpunkt nicht mehr lebte.Alle Drei hörte ich noch öffendlich.Hermann Prey hörte ich noch in einem Liederabend Anfang der 90ziger Jahre.Von 1997 gibt es auch Aufnahmen von ihm.Da war nicht mehr gesund,hat aber noch prächtig gesungen.Auch noch kurze Zeit vor seinem Tod,der sich am Dienstag zum15 Male jährt.Bei Fritz Wunderlich,der nur knapp 36 Jahre wurde,sind es am 17.9. schon 47 Jahre.
Absolut richtig. Fritz Wunderlich und Hermann Prey sind einmalig und im Grunde bis heute unerreicht. Peter Alexander zeigt hier aber auch, dass er in seinem Gebiete ein großer Könner war. Mein Vater hatte viele Platten von Fritz und während meine Klassenkameraden Deep Purple (eine tolle Band) hörten, war Fritz mein Lehrmeister im klassischen Liedgesang. Fritz und Hermann bleiben für mich unvergessliche Vorbilder

I simply cannot thank you enough for posting this positively outstanding video! The joy and fun that they are having during this performance is almost palpable. What fun it would have been to be in that studio audience!! Do you suppose if we wish very hard, and ask very nicely (if we knew who to ask of course) that there would be someone that would produce the Hermann Prey TV show to DVD and make that available? What a joy that would be!!!
Traurig, dass so etwas nicht mehr im Fernsehen kommt, nur lauter Mist und das wird immer mehr. Es lohnt nicht mehr, an zuschalten! das finde ich sehr traurig!
Actually that refers to a character (Bolle) unique to Berlin. As Hermann Prey was a Berliner he's asked by Peter Alexander what he sings for example with his 3 kids, and his answer was the "Bolle" song and yes, it IS funny!

Das war 1972.Der erste Teil hörte und sah ich schon öfters,Aber an diesem 2.Teil kam ich erst jetzt wieder heran.Das Einseifen bei der Figaro-Arie ist lustig.
