It must have really pissed off Aberforth that everyone treated Albus like this perfect person when Aberforth, being his brother knew him better than anyone and knew Albus was as flawed and imperfect as anyone else and remembered a time before his brother was a world renowned wizard.
@@groot8950 i mean you had to be likeable.the guy declines the minister job four times because he knew the power was his flaw.i mean you gotta like him somehow,
3:40 I could feel the pain, the sadness in Aberforth's voice. He wanted Potter to understand something...He is a Dumbledore and whether its Albus or Aberforth.... ALL Dumbledores are great wizards.
@Robert Phillips he is known as Aurelius Dumbledore.... Of course coming from Grindelwald we still have to wait for the new film to see if it's true....
I really liked the detail of Harry not eating. It showed that he was entirely focused on his mission and that he was used to being hungry because the Dursleys underfed him.
Even when Ron told him to wait til Bill's wedding was over Harry did not give a crap about that or the fact George lost an ear and Hedwig just died just for Harry to be willing to not spend a night At the burrow even though Ron convinced him to stay like Moody also died because of how risky it was to pick up Harry due to the fact Voldemort and the Death Eaters could come after Harry before the trace expired and Harry turns 17.
I hate how they didn't include the part in which Harry was telling Aberforth Albus's last moments when he was drinking the potion in the cave. The book did well, and it probably made Aberforth realize that Albus did indeed care for Ariana and Aberforth. Meanwhile Ron and Hermione were standing and listening in shock, because Harry never told them this information before. That was one of underrated scenes in the book and it also didn't make it to the movies.
@@rafatara2030 He was also looking the best in Prison of Azkaban. In Deadly Hollows Harry is looking so old, its hard to believe that he was still supposed to be a teenager.
And towards the end, harry tells Neville to kill nagini before he goes to die in the forest and says since he's leaving three people with that job just like how dumbledore before he died made sure three people knew about the horcruxes
Oh yeah, like you're the only person in the world who has read the books. Do yourself a favour, idiot, and stop trying to act smart. You're shitting yourself.
@@groot8950 and @Ann W, you two are fcking disgusting... why are you getting triggered like that over a simple comment that didn't insult you or anyone?!
Love how Hermione still remembers to thank and stand up for Aberforth even to the end (standing up to her friends, no less). A true Gryffindorian with an excellent upbringing -- to me, it's actually very British, polite and well-mannered to the end :D.
Well in the book, Harry said the dursleys never exactly starved him, but they didn’t let him eat the best kind of food. Dudley would always eat the best food on the table, even if it made him sick so long as Harry didn’t get any.
It actually saddens me to see Ron and Hermione looking so tired and hungry and looking very much like children while they were eating, probably thinking they don't know the next time they're going to have the simple comfort of drinking hot tea on a cold night and having bread to fill your stomach.
Sad the whole Grindelwald storyline wasn't entirely focussed upon. And the mirror was also strange considering it never appeared in any of the movies prior to Deathly Hallows.
I think they are really going to mess it up . I mean they have brought Jacob back for the sole purpose to die at the hands of Grindewalds followers . The dual between them will also be comical
Aberforth sacrificed his schooling and ambitions for his beloved sister and that part in the book when he was saying his story was heart-breaking...needless to say all Dumbledores are great ....
" You don't strike me as a foul , Jon Snow! So I' ll ask you again....." ," You don't strike me as a foul Harry Potter, so I'll ask you again...." and " That's a boy's answer.....". Do I remember correctly? The same lines he used here, he used in GOT. Even the same intonation. Or am I remembering it all wrong....cause it's been a while since I last saw this GOT scene.
I respect Harry standing up against Aberforth saying he didn’t care about the dispute with Albus. That was a subtle highlight to his character and knowing where he stood with Albus as he knew him, that he’s grown up and isn’t, in fact, a foolish ‘boy’ like Aberforth implied he was (at first).
It's also a very straightforward way of coming to terms with years and years of manipulation by Dumbledore, of not being able to think or reason like him, not knowing the least bit about his story and motives, but still respecting the man for his deeds. I feel like this speaks directly to those (like myself) who would think Dumbledore was an ass to Harry.
@@ignazioacerenza9881 Dumbledore knew after goblet of fire, that harry would survive the killing curse. But he couldn’t let harry know that, otherwise harry couldn’t give everybody the love protection. In order for him to survive he had to accept that he was gonna die, it had to be genuine. Dumbledore cared for him, but he valued the safety of the wizarding world over harry
@@ignazioacerenza9881 “years and years of manipulation” lmaoooo. Yeah no. Dumbledore didn’t manipulate Harry. Manipulate a Gryffindor? No. Work within and around a Gryffindor’s choices. Sure.
@@Arichxc He deliberately witheld life-saving information at several points of the story, especially from Harry. In particular the worst moment is when he leaves Harry's training in the hands of Snape without offering Harry full context of Snape's motives. He not only manipulates but forces Harry to be a manipulator himself, using Slughorn to get access to the memories for something he has already confirmation of (the horcruxes). But the worst part is that, Instead of taking care of Harry and raising him he sends him off to be abused by the Dursley as a character building excercise. Dumbledore never moved past his old motto: "for the greater good". He played everyone around him to achieve his goals because he saw it as the only possible way to beat voldemort. That's it.
Dumbledore did talk about his brother. When making Hagrid understand that there are people out there who not care about him being a half giant, he told him that his brother was accused of practising inappropriate magic on his goat and yet he kept his head high. He also added that he cannot read so that might have been more like oblivion than bravery.
After Voldemort died, Aberforth gathered his belongings, took up the name of Mance Rayder, joined the Night's Watch and journeyed across the wall to become the king beyond the wall!
It's funny, cause if you look up the scene where he questions Jon Snow for the first time they have a similar conversation. He literally has the same 'I ask you one last time'- line.
I knew there was something familiar about his face. Even though i´ve only seen Ciarán in Game of Thrones and The Terror as far as i remember, such a amazing actor is hard to forget.
Love how Hermoine caught the tension and automatically put down the food Abeforth offered them... Meanwhile, Ron kept eating until he caught on last minute lol
Totally agree. This tiny slice of cinema was great on the acting front. Even Watson and Radlcifee, both whom are painfully mediocre actors, were quite decent. I think this scene had a good bit of tension, sadness and relief to it, which I think is a reflection of the screenplay.
@@TickleMeElmo55 Finally someone says it. Radcliffe and Watson were bang average actors, and that's being kind. So many people seem oblvious to how bad they were, they probably grew up with them and are bind to it. The actors who played Ginny and Percy were even worse. I'm fairly sure that's why they cut Ginny so much from POA onwards, they knew how bad she was. I feel like they could've easily replaced that actress, but they didn't have the balls to do it. Book Ginny was charasmatic, all action, and beautiful; movie Ginny was none of those things, and it just didn't feel right that Harry ended up with her, yet in the books it made more sense. Honestly, it's worth learning Spanish to watch the dubbed versions because the voice actors are waaaaaaaaay better than the actors used in the movie, particularly the kids. It made the whole experience 10x better for me, and I'm English! I suspect it's similar in other languages, but there's something so authentic about Spanish people's voices.
@@futurez12 glad to know Spanish dub is appreciated between English speakers! As an Spaniard, I can agree that with high budget films it is common to hire talented people for the dubs, and that shows. I also enjoy the original version at some points, but the Spanish one has more character to it imho.
4:01 - 4:03 While it was not invested in as much in the movies as in the books (AKA, S.P.E.W), this was an example of when Hermione's intelligence/thoughtfulness which then translated into her politeness/care for others, surpassed that of Harry and Ron, for they simply did not understand a person (or living being) when she did.
Also, I truly love how Neville called Aberforth Dumbledore, "Ab" at 4:44. It's also wonderfully satisfying to me that he simply says, "Hey, Ab!" to call him-- like they've been friends for ages!
Even though Aberforth despises his late brother he is deep down guilt ridden about how late sister died. Even though it is left to debate who killed her I think Grindlewald being the evil one fired the killing shot towards Aberforth and Albus saved him by using expellemurus but it deflected the curse and hit Ariana instead and Aberforth probably wished Albus never saved his life as Ariana may have lived and will probably still wish he was killed and never forgave Albus for it.
Aberfourth doesn’t despise his brother. In fact he is the only person who truly knows Albus and the only person he really wants to hang around with is Aberfourth. He was frustrated that Dumbledore sent three barely of age wizards on some magical goose chase while the death eaters were doing victory laps.
Probably the dumbest thing in the movies was the fact many other characters knew about horcruxes and Voldemort could "feel" them when destroyed. The whole friggin point was that they had keep it secret between Dumbledore, Harry, Ron and Hermione. Otherwise Voldemort would move them in places impossible to find and literally *everybody* would have been searching for them. Why else it was just these three searching for them?
This scene was messed up by Harry telling him that they were hunting Horcruxes. In the books, it was made clear that that was supposed to be a secret and that nobody other than Harry, Ron, and Hermione were supposed to know about it. However, this scene did have a redeeming factor which was Aberforth saying "In all the time you've known him, did he ever mention my name? Did he ever mention her's?" That was a powerful line that wasn't in the book.
A lot of people have their ideas muddled on Dumbledore because he's so complicated. But to me in the end he was one of the most kind hearted, flawed, powerful, and intelligent wizards ever. He was young once like anyone. He had his flaws like anyone. But he dealt with them and most of his old age was spent doing something good. Being the best headmaster in the wizarding world. The moments we see him acting in a way that seems cruel or without heart ALWAYS have an explanation. When he hesitates and stumbles on his words when he says "yes he must die" to Snape it's not easy for him because he cares so much for Harry, yet he knows it must be done, and his theory in his head that Harry will survive because he is a horcrux only barely gives him enough to push him forward with that idea. He is so happy, calm, and bright when talking to Harry after Voldemort kills the horcrux inside him because it is finally over. He doesn't have to make any hard and deadly decisions because no more need to be made.
I felt for him a bit he just seemed to harbour so much pain . The way he spoke about his brother and sister makes it sound like he and they were happy before the viper turned up . Then it all went to shite and the rest is history . The anguish when he said that " he sacrificed many things in his search for power " makes me wonder if Dumbledore did more than Rowling claimed he did . It sounded like she was trying to hint that he did .
Yes. In the flashback of Snape's memories from the Pensine(last movie), when Snape begs Dumbledore to hide the Potter's, Dumbledore's answer was : "what would I have in exchange for this ?" Proving that he probably wasn't the kind hearted wizard Harry though he was. Abelforth's answer is probably a reflection of this too.
@@androsram641 yes of course he was manipulative, he wasn't talking to a "friend", he was talking to a death eater begging him to hide someone he endangered by telling Voldemort part of the prophecy (mind you he doesn't give two craps about the baby and the husband dying, and he wouldn't have given a shit to begin with if it wasn't lily who he put in danger -explicitly confronted over this in the books-) Of course he was gonna hide her either way, Christ that number was just to get Snape's loyalty. He's in a WAR and has the opportunity to have a death eater as a double agent. He was using very effectively the cards he was dealt with.
“I’m not interested in what happened between you and you’re brother. I don’t care that you’ve given up. I trusted the man I knew”. As soon as Harry said that, in my opinion, he gained Aberforth’s respect. Aberforth said that Harry didn’t strike him as a fool, and Harry’s response confirmed to him that he wasn’t. That’s why he sent Arianna to fetch Neville, and why he went to Hogwarts to fight, all because of that answer
@@frasergibson5763 Actually it was still a boy's answer. The truth is, Albus Dumbledore being constantly Harry's paternal figure, harry could not develop himself to be a full grown up. For entire series, he was only performing Dumbledore's tasks.
At this point in his life he was an exhusted old man with nothing to live for , and in all honesty was frustrated when someone showed a glimmer of hope because he couldn't find any for himself . So yes he was a jerk there , but in this instance I think it's understandable
@@sakura072593 In this scence his tone and facial expressions just ooze frustration ...he's fustrated because Aberforth has given up and because he knows how his brother felt about what happend. He knows that grudge is being held because Aberforth won't accept that Albus felt guilty or any remorse . Because Aberforth is stubborn and set in his ways ...
Idk what it is but the chemistry between Daniel and Ciaran here is just on a whole other level. They bounce off each other remarkably well. I wish they had more scenes together.
It seemed to me the movies worse when the books got thicker because they had to leave more out. They did a pretty good job overall but the books feel more compete and more serious to me.
Doesn’t really make sense for me, to say that the books are better because of the inherent differences between books and cinema and not because they’re better as books then the movie is as a movie.
I wish they had played out this conflict between Aberforth and Dumbledore a bit more. One of the reasons Dumbledore is one of my favorite characters is that he is Machiavellian; he did what he had to do to ensure the triumph of the good, gladly taking upon himself the burden of any pain he caused.
I came to rewatch this scene after Fantastic Beasts and the Secrets of Dumbledore. Albus has done many good things but being a good brother was not one of them. Aberforth lost his sister as well. And a woman he loved, his only son, Aurelius. Albus literally was raising Harry was a pig for slaughter just to defeat Voldemort. Snape said it himself. I understand why Aberforth told Harry to leave and live a little longer. It was a suicide mission for many in the end. Harry was almost one of them if he didn’t decide to come back to fight. Sounds wrong of me however I feel like all of it could have been done differently than it went down. Thanks for uploading.
But dumbledore actually loved Harry and I’m sure had there been another way he would of taken to to save Harry and he loved him and dumbledore himself admitted it in order of phoenix telling him he cared more about him and his happy then anyone else dumbledore was flawed yes but he is a hero he’s been there for world whenever they’ve needed him voldermort would not have died without him he knew he wanted power so he stopped himself every time they offered the post of minister of magic he might be flawed but he’s a hero and a great man
This scene is awesome, for starters aberforth is right. Harry’s first answer of I trusted him is a boys answer. However both aberforth and harry realize that Harry’s answer is what a man says. I need your help regardless of what you really think.
For all of Aberforth's charges that Harry acts like a boy instead of a man, it is Aberforth who is forever stunted as an angry little boy. People makes mistakes, terrible, unforgivable sins where your whole world comes crashing down, it is easy to want to give up. But Albus, and even Snape they didn't let their self loathing stop them for doing what needs to get done. Albus lived in pain, in guilt, in shame, but he kept going on put away Grindelwald, made discoveries in magic, wrote laws, became a teacher a headmaster a mentor a friend, he continued to live even if he never felt alive. Aberforth chose to waste away his life in a bar dwelling on hating his brother, and doing nothing wasting away his immense talent. If Harry learned anything from Dumbledore it is to never give up, Aberforth has no right to lecture Harry or question Albus relationship loyalty towards Harry that is between two men.
I don’t know much about Aberforth but he seems like in his younger days after he separated himself from his brother after their sisters death I feel like in that time he would’ve been a powerful and badass HP character, I kinda wanna see more of him
Aberforth just wanted someone to vent to. There's not many in their world that could possibly comprehend what he felt. Harry was the only other closest to Albus, and thus Aberforth knew that Harry was the only other that can understand the significance of his venting. In fact, he may have seen a bit of Albus in harry. Because when he vented, to Harry, it seemed like something he'd say to albus himself. But when Harry said "I don't care what happened between you and your brother", that when he knew, that Harry was not a rip off copy of Albus. And Aberforth may also have thought that this might be the last time he'd ever have any chance to vent at all because at this point it wasn't certain Harry was going to survive, and he's a life of regret. So he decided I think to brain dump as much venting as he could all at once. Seeing that Harry didn't care, he seemed to have a relieved face. He even did the classic Dumbledore eye twitch.
Re Harry saying "I don't care about what happened between you and your brother" and "I need to get into the school tonight", I don't is arrogant... I think Harry's been through a lot by this point, it's a time factor (Harry doesn't have time to chat) and he's just focusing on what he has to do that night and had limited time. I mean, maybe being slightly dismissive about something that someone else (Aberforth) thinks IS worth taking the time to go into - maybe just two people briefly at cross purposes and also probably he would have been a bit curious about what Harry was like in person maybe so Aberforth threw a few things at him. Why arrogant?
Looking forward to seeing Aberforth and Ariana appear in the Fantastic Beasts films since Albus and Grindelwald's final duel is a major event that affects the Dumbledore siblings.
Ariana died in 1899, the 2nd movie takes place in 1927 and the final duel between Dumbledore and Grindelwald takes place in 1945. But I really hope we'll get to see Aberforth! But we can also have flashbacks.
I feel alberforts pain and why he is the way he is after ariana died he was never the same again and never forgave Dumbledore for not keeping her alive. I do believe it was grindlwald who killed her by accident of course there was a three way duel between dumbldore grindlwald and Albertfort and one of them shot out the killing curse and accidentally hit ariana by accident. Grindlwald fled and stole the elder wand albertfort and Dumbledore never spoke to each other again. grindlewald went to crime and started to cause chos trying to expose the wizarding world. I hope they show all this in one of the fantastic beast films.
I just saw the clip where Jon Snow asks Mance to let him join the Free Folk. It's the same actor and a very similar situation. The way Aberforth says 'I'll ask you again' is the same as Mance said it to Jon Snow. Very interesting parallel
In the book, Harry doesn't tell Aberforth anything about the Horcruxes, but he tells him something about that there are more important things than personal safety, and that there was a war going on. Besides, the entire story of him, with his brother, Grindewald and Ariana has been skipped, although, I recognize it was hard to fit in, perhaps in the next fantastic beast movie there will be a better approach.
You know it's really sad to be honest cause Aberforth has had a tough life. He had a son he had no idea about "Credence" or as he was born Aurelius Dumbledore who died not shortly after they finally met. Had a woman he loved (Aurelius Mother) who was banished by the British Ministry if I remember correctly. His sister died in an accident caused by Albus and himself and to top it all off a bit of a feud with his brother for years up until Albus died. The man has clearly had a dark time. I hope in the end he found some peace. (Yes I know this is fictional but still the man needs some damn peace)
Dang alberforth is so hurt by losing his sister he isn't himself anymore i wonder if we will see her dying in the fantastic beast films i believe grindlwald killed her in the three way duel.
Aberforth states in The Deathly Hallows that he's not sure who it was that killed Ariana. He said it could have been any of the three of them. It's in chapter 28, "The Missing Mirror".
Bit late to this conversation, but Ariana was killed when they fought as boys. Grindlewald wanted him to leave him brother and sister and go away with him. Unless there’s a flashback sequence, those events have already taken place by the time the Fantastic Beasts films are taking place.
It's funny, but after watching the latest Fantastic Beasts film, one hast to wonder just how much Aberforth hated Albus. But we all know that out of anyone, Aberforth was the one person in the world who knew Albus the most, and he knew full well that the mission of hunting down Horcruxes was the most dangerous thing a person, human or wizard could ever do. And for Albus to trust that burden on a 17 year old boy with about as much intelligence as a child with gun, Aberforth understood that Albus truly lost his mind at his old age, and was still making the same reckless mistakes he always made. Though, there is something that Aberforth did not know about Harry, and that was the fact that Harry had a determination that rivaled even most experienced wizard, and an iron-clad will that made even Voldemort scared shitless.
Interesting fact: though in movies his brother is only introduced in last film, in books dumbledore actually introduced him in goblet of fire in front of trio and hagrid.
i was told cirian hinds was in harry potter, but dont remember ever seeing his face in any of the movies. after having watched this, i can see now. lol.
Well Albus defeated Grindelwald as a redemption and gave Aberforth a chance to see his son, he didnt even bother to Save his own son hes just as bad father like Albus was a brother hes a hypocrite.
@@memiaszzinternetu6513 yeah but he loses Credence his own son and sister Ariana and even tho Credence dies I think his bird still survived and flies around hogwarts
The series would have ended much better if Aberforth had stepped forward to defeat Voldemort. He would have had the experience. And in a way, "Love" truly would have been the ultimate power to stop Voldemort. That beats a shitty wand backfiring any day.
I LOVE Aberforth too. He was a better man than his brother, always, consistently. He kept checking in and looked out for Harry & sent help to Harry and gang and cared about his best interest instead of treating him like a pawn/sacrificing him for an end goal and respected his wishes despite holding a different opinion. He truly cared for those around him, and never sacrificed them for glory nor sought any for himself but quietly did the right thing on his own.
When Aberforth asks Harry, Ron, and Hermione if they even know how dangerous it is, my first reaction was, "You're talking to HARRY POTTER and his friends. Voldemort has been hunting Harry since he heard about the prophecy. Why would they not know how dangerous it is?!"
anyone know who would have painted Ariana if she was basically kept a secret? unless she was painted before the incident with the muggle children. it'd be cool to see more of her portrait interactions in Fantastic beasts
