My son has been asking for a hermit crab and I was like why not? so I looked up hermit crabs saw your videos...and now I know why not! he will not be getting a hermit crab unless we find someone who wants to rehome theirs.. and can provide it a better life.. Thanks so much for this video! I used to have hermit crabs, and they weren’t given adequate care. Even though it wasn’t as bad as this, and they still had salt water and freshwater bowls, they were fed a crappy diet and now I feel so bad. They were in little painted shells, so when my hermit crab tried to change shells my other hermit crab stole her shell and she died. I feel so for this, so I have made it my goal to help my friends who have hermit crabs to provide them with adequate care in Pinkie Pie and Justice’s honor. Thanks so much for this video, I hope a lot of people learn from this!

Thanks for your videos! We made the mistake of buying hermit crabs at a beach store and then bought this exact enclosure. (didn’t know any better) now I’ve bought an aquarium for them and will be returning this contraption. I found you by trying to learn how to care for them and I have learned so much!

I agree with you all these tiny abusive tanks and cages sold for animals are so wrong and should be illegal. It's basically like locking a kid in a closet forever. Also I'd love to see more bad cage reviews like this especially since PetSmart released a horrible new line of cages

I don’t know how pet stores can sell stuff like that! I’ve wanted hermit crabs for such a long time and I want to give them the best care I could possibly give them! But others who are impulse buyers would see that and buy it for them and the poor creature would suffer and more than likely die 💔

OMG thank you for this video. I just realised that I cannot have gravel at the bottom. My local pet store said it was fine. I bought those gravels and they kind of seemed to dislike it and now I know why

Thank you so, so much for this video. Hermit crabs are probably one of the most neglected pets that people buy, and it breaks my heart. When I was a kid, I got a hermit crab at a flea market. I kept it in one of those tiny betta tanks, I never gave it salt water, it had gravel, no extra shells, and I always kept it in my bathroom in the dark. I was an uneducated kid who shouldn’t have been allowed to get a pet when I was too young to properly care for it. Since that, I’ve always been dedicated to properly educating people at my job about the care hermit crabs really need and deserve.

You are one of my favourite pet RU-vidrs! You are so good to your animals, and even though you love animals you aren't a horder, you only keep the ones you know you can care for! I just live for you!!!

This video is honestly so true! This "cage" for hermit crabs is absolutely too small and honestly will kill your hermit crabs. The only use we have ever had from these are when we are adopting more hermitcrabs and have a short drive home. Even then we put ecoearth, not gravel that will dry out your hermit crabs and is equivalent to snails and salt. We also put hides and plants. And this is only for a drive home after adopting! We never, ever would keep any animal in any circumstance in one of these tanks and it is equivalent of a person living in a coat closet.

I love all of your videos!! I have 4 hermit crabs and after I watched your videos, about the care of them, they went from a plastic crate like that one to a large tank with all of the necessities!!

I love how Lori set the Hermie's so gently in the tank. I love how gentle she is with her animals. She even waited before setting the other crab down. They're so cute.

My friend had a hermit crab. A terrible enclosure as well, A lot like this one but smaller. Her dad put the hermit crab in the garden to give it “exercise”. We haven’t seen it since.

I actually had a hermit crab smaller than that tiny shell once! It was years ago however (15 years?) and I got him on a boardwalk shop so that probably means some cruelty was involved. I had no idea because I was 5 though lol. Also the shell was not.. that narrow or shaped like that at all. But yeah just something neat to imagine a tiny tiny crab!

Omg i hate those cages. When i was 9-11 i had a clan of hermits and so did my friend. My tank were big and super nice and and all my crabs lived for a pretty long time. I did use the portable tank just to take them to my friends house to watch if i went on vacation and she would put a divider in her tank.

I love this!!! I’m fairly new with my hermit crab but I’m making sure I’m getting all the stuff it needs ASAP! I use a different sand/earth than you but he seems to really like it he can bury in it where would you recommend getting shells at?

I have this kit for my crab and funny thing is that she is perfectly fine in it and is okay. We did get dirt because the gravel WAS NOT okay for her and she absolutely hated it. The gravel was also horrible for Blaine’s because he could not dig himself in it. We are using the sponge but we are using the little dishes for food for both of our hermit crabs and have 2 extra dishes for them for salt water and fresh water because they love both. Now that we have the dirt for my hermit crabs they are much happier and you can tell. They are currently sleeping buried and are happy. This kit is okay but our hermit crabs are tiny and are okay in this enclosure. I love but hate this kit just as you said and we fixed it up. 😊

HI! Funny Video. Question: where do you get those turbo shells, bc I think I should get some.

Totes also make great homes as well, and great for keeping in humidity - tends to be well sealed - and plastic retains heat better than plastic. All you need is to drill a couple of holes for ventilation, and its good to go as a cheap affordable home. Turbos while great for PP's, many other species of crabs do not like them and often choose other types of shells. It's something worth mentioning, since other crab species are available, and incorrect shell choices - or not offering the preferred choices - can lead to problems!

I love your videos! I work at a really nice Petco and I'm not sure we have these. I really hope not. I wanted to tell you I sold a hamster the other day and helped the family find good things for their pet, as best I could! At first they picked out a 5 inch exercise ball.. So I stood with them and explained what hamsters need and suggested the best products for them to be happy and healthy.. It was nice to made a difference, even if it's only a drop of water in the ocean. Thank you for your help! I'll do my best for hermit crabs and all our other critters, too.

I got my hermit crabs about a year and a half ago and sadly 2 passed away from my negligence and being irresponsible. But I’ve come to accept that and now my three hermit crabs are living well and way better off than they where awhile ago.😄

I’m not sure which is worse...that or a critter trail but I’m pretty sure this takes the cake
