Hermitcraft 10: Episode 16 - WHAT DOING? Grian is finally back on Hermitcraft after a short pause. We are tidying up and playing a new game called "what doin?" #hermitcraft #minecraft
Thank you, Grian, for making a proper closed captioning and even going the extra mile with proper, color-coded formatting when multiple people are speaking! It’s so refreshing when so many other people nowadays do this baked in (can’t be turned off), overly animated, jumpy, word-by-word/line-by-line subtitles that only serves to visually yell at the viewer in the face rather than being there for accessibility purposes. Even though I might not have hearing difficulties, it's still useful to me as a non-native English speaker as it helps me better understand what was said.
I don't fully mind the on screen captions some people add, like say Tommyinnit, but I do agree sometimes it can be a bit much. G's captions are some of the best around!
We helped our kid learn to read by turning the captions on on the TV all the time, and he still prefers them on now as a teen. So I have definitely seen some bad captioning jobs, and appreciate good captions.
Grian: We are gonna rid of pop-up shops... Scar: With fire! Grian: No. We also are going to punish people for not making shops for their permits... Scar: With fire! Grian: You're *fired* .
Grian, I'd like to let you know that the shape of your new storage facility is classified as a Squircle, or in 3D form, a Squilender. What is a Squircle? A Squircle is a shape that has characteristics of both squares and circles. In order to find the area of a squircle, one must solve the equation (pi*r^2) /2 + (length × width) /2 Since your building is both circular and right-angleish, it makes it a Squircle. Thank you for your time. (This is all made-up by the way)
You genuinely had me until you said it was made up, and considering how I'm studying Geometry that's super embarassing. I suppose it was really that convincing.
Imagine the lore if other hermits start selling stuff without permits in a secret location cheaper than the actual market price as a way to protest against the permit office
Oh, there's so much season left to go...a black market seems incredibly likely. ...and it's the hermits, so "a secret location" being "in a sewer" seems...also incredibly likely 😂
Take all the time you need in-between videos Grian, especially if it means more awesome quotes like “Don’t you hate it when real life gets in the way of your video gaming?”
@@fabian6087 even just 1 interaction would keep things interesting, and on the flip side having someone show up randomly also creates more interesting scenarios.
Absolutely! It was so cool to see all the members come together for some science and fun and to see the depths of Hermitcraft without having to go watch hours of videos by others.
Yay, Grian is back from Xisuma's basement! Also, I love the recent upsurge of larger length Hermitcraft episodes, going from ~24 minutes to ~36, give or take.
Funny enough, Grian (as well as Mumbo and Cleo, thinking about it) might be one of the few hermits to have _actually_ met X offline and know what he looks like (since X has never done a face reveal)... So it's entirely plausible that Grian was in Xisuma's _actual_ basement at some point.
This episode was like pure ADHD representation without even grian realizing it, from the "putting off organizing" chest progress, to randomly popping in on people, to getting distracted by caves to not being patient enough to wait for scar. I loved it!
"Reactive Building" is a real concept in other parts of life. If you keep chucking your clothes in the same corner, put a basket in that spot and that'll be where your dirty laundry sits. If you're stacking random pocket junk (keys, wallet, etc) on a specific surface, get a bowl for that spot and maybe run a cable to charge your phone while you're at it. etc etc
For squid farming, just put a bunch of one block waterfalls, each a block apart, from Y:45 to 63, and have a drop platform with a hopper minecart at the bottom. Squid can’t spawn in bubble columns, and they fight against them when they get into them. They can’t fight gravity though! Source: tested this extensively in skyblock while trying to make fish farms. If anyone is interested, a checkerboard pattern of bubble columns and fence gates at the bottom layer is the way to go
1. Take the time you need, it helps no one if you’re under constant stress 2. Has anyone else noticed that Scar‘s mountain kinda looks like the Eifel tour or something like it if you squint from very far away?
I've already noticed this from S9, but I am happy that Grian walks us through the building process. It felt like I was watching Grian's build tutorials back in 2016.
Honestly, the random everyday conversations between the Hermits are probably my favorite thing about Hermitcraft. Its just nice to see so many people of different backgrounds and ages and stuff build a community and friendships. "What Doin'" definitely brought this to light for me. I would literally just watch, like, 10 min videos just of that or of random conversations taken out of context and stuff. I love these videos, always the highlight of my week/month.
I like how Impulse just immediately thought of Etho as the guy that does incredible, interesting things haha Etho really is just incredible, to be an OG minecrafter STILL innovating the game
We appreciate you, Grian. Take whatever time you need whenever you need it, and disregard that entitled few that feel you owe them entertainment on demand
36:31 hey grian, you should watch this guy, called grian. he made a tree tutorial not too long ago (i think it was 9 years ago?) but it still holds up to this day. pretty solid basic tree tutorial, if you wanna know. highly recommend!!!
so glad to see the "ehh maybe i'll dial back the permit office stuff" quickly change to doubling down and hiring more people to do permit office-related work, hopefully the supportive comments gave grian more confidence in the permit office shenanigans as its genuinely one of my favorite hermitcraft things in general, especially this season
Storage areas are such a grind, I personally don’t want multiple separate storage areas (excluding stuff like farm collection areas for obvious reasons), but being able to compact everything down into an organized, cohesive space with room for most (if not all) items is such an art in and of itself, i’m always interested in seeing what other people’s ideas and methods for it are.
Yet another banger with the relaxed approach to this season. The giant roster of creators is probably Hermitcrafts biggest selling point so What Doin'? is a perfect segment to slow things down between the more concentrated building and interactions.
21:36 - 5 stages of Hermitcraft player: 1 - There are so many things happening here! 2 - What is happening here? 3 - What *the hell* is happening here? 4 - Something is happening here. 5 - I don't want to know, what's happening here.
Riptide + an Elytra is actually one of the fastest ways to move in entire game to my knowledge. (If you're not counting Ender Pearl stasis chambers.) If it starts raining you can move at absurd speeds and gain/lose an absurd amount of height in seconds. However moving at these speeds is so absurdly deadly that you'll die instantly if you hit pretty much anything. The fastest way to move in Minecraft is what Doc built last week. (He made a pig launcher that sends you to the world border after a 10 minute charge up.)
@@TheeBananaGuy It is fast, but not trident during a rainstorm fast. The speeds when using a trident in the rain are so insane that chunks won't load and the trident will struggle to function after enough uses.
@@dhearyzikrimuhammad_0366 The speed of a trident elytra combo in the rain is around 400 blocks per second. The soulsand highway is just over a third of that speed at around 147 blocks per second. You'll almost never be able to make use of this because it requires rain, but it is extremely fast compared to most other transport methods.
GRIAN next season of hermit craft, NO SHOPPING DISCTRICT, have every shop be at each players base. Therefore everyone has to visit each others bases. Would bring more viewers to everyone, and we get to see everyones build styles
Grian can you make a super smelter with a wonky chimney or two on the top to fit in your build as I feel it would bring lots of character to you base/village build!
The Nile river is the longest river excluding tributary rivers and the rivers deltas. However, the Amazon river is larger due to the aforementioned parts of the river. But once again, neither river has fished up mending books…
Player terminal velocity falling = 78.4 m/s Gliding straight down with elytra = 78.4 m/s Trident with Riptide III = 125.0 m/s Direct from the Minecraft internal figures.... Seems pretty straight forward to me.
@@CharzzTheAnimated As was already mentioned 1 block = 1 meter. The internal values use meters, as I already said those numbers above are directly from the game and that included the m/s part.
Idea for next What Doin: After you ask the first person what they're doing, have them join along to ask what the next person is doing. This cycle continues until you have 5 or 6 people all appearing in front of somebody and saying "what doin?"
Swine does seem to be a reoccurring mode of transport this season. Those piggies are racking up the km/miles this season. The acceleration, verticality, and range of the pigs this season is second to none! Never mind warp speed, swine speed is where it’s at!
I think he was referring to the pig space program event where they gathered a ton of people to fishing pole fling each other into the stratosphere. I think those are the pigs they used.
Pre murder diamonds and the pit with eldritch being… sounds familiar… hope episode 8 is coming out soon Permit officers is step 1 to Grian doing the following: 1) exploiting the easily exploitable power given to become one of the dictators he used to fight against 2) becoming the government
Grian. You need to get two sniffers for the permit office and name them Flash and Priscilla as a nod to Disney’s Zootopia. I would love to see that happen.
I love that the captions are color coded and also the fact that the people talking are shown in the caption. Its just that touch of accessibility that makes my heart happy
I would have never discovered this without this comment! This is really cool and I love how much effort has been put into something as simple but helpful as the captions!
36:35 I believe Keralis had a business idea about building bushes for people! He built some palms for Xisuma! Idk if he logs in these days but this may be the way to go
"Don't you hate it when real life gets in the way of your video gaming?" Me, who's been meaning to play Minecraft for the past week but keeps having to put it off cause of real life:
The pre-murder diamonds were originally from Cleo to Doc. Cleo tricked Doc, who killed then killed the villagers, but Cleo gave him the diamonds from before then.
at start of this episode, grian mentions how long it takes to travel by foot. I actually recently started a server with buddies, where nether travel is 1:1 to the overworld, and elytra's are a no-go. it's super refreshing and fun to pretty much HAVE to build roads and bridges to get places more efficiently
I used to play with minihud on, and I noticed that fireworks seemed to cap velocity at around 32-34 blocks/sec. I could trident to 50 with rain, but then I slowed down when I used a rocket. Tridents don’t have that cap (in 1.18 anyway), where I reached 250 blocks/sec before the server I was on halted my momentum when chunk generation can’t keep up.
I love how you're leaning into letting the practical function of the world guide your progress and letting your creativity thrive in that more confined space and especially that you're sharing the process. It's so easy to burn yourself out with overambition, and you're helping yourself as well as some of the rest of us who might benefit from the technique.
For the popup enforcement if someone doesn't remove their popup shop before the deadline you should take all of thier stock and store it in the permit office "lost and found" section
I think the storage building looks really cool. It’s also a smart move to, well, put your storage where you keep your stuff! I’m excited to see if it effectively reduces the chest-monster-ification of the area. Love the “what doing?” game as well, of course. Hermit interactions give me life.
@Grian maybe a trip to the Caribbean might help with the headspace. Might I suggest the Grand Cayman. Beautiful beaches and the inclusive packages make it worth it. It was one of my better trips. Going to Jamaica this year, might update my recommendation after the trip
Grian: I need you to set my expectations correctly. Cub: Allow me to set your expectations as badly as I possibly can. Grian: I need a passive ink farm that works in a unmodified river biome. Next Episode Etho: Allow me to introduce myself. Also, JoeHills science for the win!
How Grian will react to everything. 1. HAaHhahaA. 2. oh that just happened HahaAHaH. 3. What?.. 4. I'm not actually sure what's going on anymore. 5. he will say some British thing that makes us Americans feel both warm and confused inside
Cub DOES do duplicates, sort of. If you sign up for the "Horn of the Month" club, everyone gets the same horn that month. But that horn is exclusive to members.
Grian, as a followup to your testing, not only are tridents better for falling, but also for flying! Basically free gas if you launch yourself from a pool of water. You can also build a dolphin railgun if you want the ultimate form of trident based transportation. Kinda the flying version of the dolphin highway
