Hermitcraft 9: Episode 33 A FRESH START! Grian is back on hermitcraft going over the story so far and having a "soft" reset to get back into the server. Texturing Inspiration credits: -Bdoubleo -Sabre_13mc #minecraft #hermitcraft
One of the more rare items I can think of is the glitched leather helmet. In the secret tree rooms of Woodland Mansions, there is one chest that can contain an Efficiency I Iron Axe, but the game can glitch out and give you an Efficiency I Leather Cap instead.
Here's a little tip for building the backs of builds. Make the back... into the front. Seriously, add a few rooms there where you enter from the back, and that'll help with the necessity and motivation to actually do stuff over there. If you don't frequently visit a certain side of a build it's easy to neglect it, if you make all sides of your build important, then they tend to get less neglected.
how to finish the back of the base: realize you've built the base facing the wrong way, and you already have it done. now you just have to build the front.
it is rare but it's not super hard to find if you just explore deepslate caves at a high y level since coal is usually such a common ore. That's why deepslate emerald ore is so rare, because even the regular version is pretty rare itself.
Either this or getting enough fragments to make record 5. The following are a bit less rare, but: deepslate coal, stone redstone ore, or stone diamond ore. Or finding a fossil with diamonds underground? Though that can literally take forever.
Maybe you and Mumbo should make a backless base together - each of you make a front that join together into one. Of course, the benefit of that is the lag! So many items might lag into your pockets!
The first Decked Out was amazing, but this second one is absolutely blowing my mind and it's NOT EVEN DONE YET. Seriously, the amount of detail and dedication Tango has to that build? The End aesthetic of just the lobby? Absolutely amazing. I just- there are no words. (Also, I love Grian's obsession with rare items. I absolutely get obsessed about similar things haha.)
i had no idea it was all that rare.... i got 7 tall grass' from 2 villages on my vanilla server and thought it was normal lol i can give you a seed if you want to check it out
@@zuziaidyll4y708 me too! i find it all the time? were you on java edition or bedrock. i assume maybe its not as rare on bedrock bc i find it a lot and i play on bedrock
if you want another rare item to search for, there's also the double tall fern. Which is found in the same way as double tall grass, except it spawns in taiga villages instead of savannahs.
I think I heard deepslate coal and stone diamond are meant to be rare; gilded blackstone is only uncommon but potentially challenging to get; there's a snowy grass block you can only get from enderman griefing; the thing and snout banner patterns, Lena Raine's disks and even though they're old news at this point, I think Notch Apples still count. There's very few things AS rare as tall grass, but plenty of things rare ENOUGH to round out a collection.
have you considered making the dolphin highway underground and just having easily accessible stations at every major stop? This seems like a perfect opportunity to just make it a subway.
@@solomonrex3955 I thought about that too but flying to build height every time you travel to a different base seemed a bit much, underground is a bit closer and less of an eyesore
Hear me out, Subterranean Cetacean Station. Cetacean [see-tay-shun] is the family dolphins are in. Subterranean, obviously means underground. If you guys were to build the track underground, you wouldn't have to worry about disrupting builds or the sight line. It'd be pretty cool :)
That’s one heck of a name, pal. SCS would be the shortening of it, and the name itself had trouble leaving my mouth, so let’s just call it the SCS and call it a day.
Also have you considered making the dolphine trail more like a subway/train rail and let it go under ground during the shopping district with access points you can fly into??? It'd be much cuter and interesting than a line in the sky AND just as fast and easy to access. While being able to make it very bare bones and just putting it as a subway line that can be very copy past (and have the ability to have hermits potentially throw graffiti in the tunnels 👀🥰
Etho actually started such an underground dolphin highway in season 7 but it was kind of forgotten and not really used by other hermits. So I agree with the other commenters that doing it overground might give it some additional visibility :)
For the speedy highway problem, to avoid cutting through the builds of other hermits, why not bury it deep underground, or raise it to the sky above all the buildings, that way the X and Z coordinates stay the same but you just change the Y value.
I believe I know the answer, though I am only guesssing. Running it underground may also cause issues with anyone who has mining or farms beneath their base that expand across the region. It might also be harder to plot a course after so long into the season as it would be to plot one above ground. The only disadvantage I can think of for putting up high is that it may not be asthetically pleasing. True, it may not be asthetically pleasing now... but I suspect the flourish that will be done to it might dominate the skyline far more than a simple roadway may. Again, just guessing and not intending to project my opinions on this. I could be wrong and I don't necessarily believe that such a thing would not be asthetically pleasing nor do I know if it would be that hard to run it underground. I'm just purposing why Grian thought this might've been the best choice. True, he may be underthinking it. Or overthinking it... since he put it above ground. :D
In addition to putting (grey) glow lichen on the green blocks, you can put vines on some of the grey blocks around it. Keeping vines from spreading is as easy as right-clicking with shears.
I still can't help but feel like moving the entire "rail" underground is the way to go. It's sort of an eyesore up top. Cutting through buildings and all that as well....Could have some fun with it. Making it like a nice little train station/subway station at every base it meets up with, each hermit decorating their stop with their own styles.
I don’t think it’s an eyesore and it’s better if the ending is above ground but just like real life railways I think it’s important to have it do both. Go above and underground.
The main issue here is time, the more time you are spending even going to the underground portion of it to start is time away. Is it faster to drop down into say 64 blocks and then take off and then use a bubble elevator or is it faster to just take an elytra right over it for on and off purposes.
28:11 perhaps you could drop down into the ground and speedy under bdubs’ and scar’s shops, then pop up and continue speedy running to everyone’s bases? Not sure if this idea would work, and the mining would definitely take a lot of time, but it’s an idea! :)
Some suggestions for highway: Mysticat seems to have already said to make it higher, which is a good idea, and is half of what I was going to say. 1. You could make a sort of hub like in the nether. This would provide a good stopping point, and you could change directions a bit easier. 2. With the angled road, don't have flowing water going off of either end. It seems to be pulling you off of the road. 3. (Possibility, I'm not sure if it would work) Maybe put dolphins all along the road. This might keep the effect active, therefore reducing the number of times you would need to slow down on the highway. Again, this might not work, idk.
Dolphins grace only works if you're swimming, those 'boosters' are intentionally designed to stop you swimming So no it would not change anything with the design he had - That being said, it's largely a stupid design as it's completely unnecessary to not be swimming (Constant swimming keeps the dolphins grace and soul speed, could have continuous dolphins (at least as often as the current boosters if not a little further apart) and not be slowed down by the boosters - Meaning it's actually far faster than at least overworld elytra, rather than *just* saving rockets and elytra durability after building a track
NAME SUGGESTION: “The Mantaway”. The Manta Ray is an Aquatic Animal whose flaps look a bit like Wings, so the Dolphins and Elytra parts are represented, and a Motorway is a permanent structure to travel very quickly, mostly in straight lines. A different/earlier idea I had was “The MonoWhale”, for similar reasons, but it doesn’t include the wings, plus whales seem big & slow.
Some really rare things are deepslate coal ore, it only spawns with help of a coal vein being nearby, mojang banner patterns i believe are possible and very rare
the mojang pattern uses a notch apple to make so it is pretty rare and then the one with a creeper head i guess. not that rare just can be a pain to get
Have you experimented with different angles for the highway? a 15° angle is a lot straighter then a 45° one. It might just work for a short section to get around the shopping district.
If you're out for rare items, try looking for large fern. Just like the tall grass, you can't collect this item using shears, you'll have to find it in a chest in a taiga village which is also rare itself.
*DOUBLE TALL FERNS.* Of the rare items, this is one i REALLY like, because the item is completely different from anything else. It has a kinda different shade of green and a thicker outline than most nature items. Really cool, genuinely rare item, especially on Java edition where taiga villages are less common. If I got some there, I would be just as excited as you were with the tallgrass, if not more. Really cool-looking item. Stone diamond ore are decently rare, deepslate coal ore can be fairly rare too so silk those up when you see them, but nowhere close to emeralds as they generate in larger veins. If someone wants those items, you can make some really good trades due to how hard they can be to get in large quantities. You have to be mining at y=0 to get either of those things and because nobody does that anymore, you see them even less. A collectible that's a lot harder to collect would be a diamond gear wearing mob, if enchanted and fully decked out, the odds of that happening are genuinely obscene. Keep a nametag on you if you want to try for that. But yeah, _truly rare_ items are hard to find in minecraft as so many are farmable and have many ways to obtain them.
I love how you got so excited about finding tall grass. I feel that entirely except I'm obsessed with trying to see all the music discs recently in survival. Real Minecraft nerd pride😁
Large Ferns are pretty rare. You can find them in Taiga Villages. Collecting all the music discs is also a good idea. You can also try to get maxed gear by only looting end cities.
watching Pearl’s stream when she had Gregg on her head causing chaos was absolute GOLD edit: those asking for the vod, pearl still has it up on her twitch (as of Feb. 5, 2023) go to videos and look for the one that says, “Hermitcraft 9 - All The Things” time stamp should be around 1:19:18 (there’s a mini gem and pearl podcast in that stream later as well :D)
@@Clip_It1 yeah they're pretty rare. You can't get the tall version of grass and ferns normally, so tall grass and tall ferns are pretty rare since they can only spawn in village chests, with ferns being specific to only spruces
What about using red stone ore beneath some glow lichen (or vines but vines may be too harsh) to give the effect of small flowers growing in some of the mossy parts of the build. You could also try it with Lapis, diamond, gold or emerald ore if you're feeling flush. Maybe even coal ore for your more spooky builds.
What if you went under the bases? Made the dolphin tunnel underground, like a mini subway from a place like NYC, I think that you look pretty cool, and every part where it turns you can have multiple off going which have like an estimated 'time of arrival' and each person can decorate their station. Sorry for any mistakes, I'm trying quite fast here.
It's not as exciting, underground. Plus, I think the effected Hermits would probably be kind of excited to update their buildings, to accommodate the new path. Plus, they could build their shops right around the path. They could have a custom record triggered as someone went past, saying, ”Shop Scar!"
Hey Grian, in regards to your issue of not finishing the back of builds, just start thinking of the back of your build as its "other" front! See if that helps! Have a lovely day.
FOR THE BUNDLES. If you hover over them in your inventory, see the item you want further inside it. Simply scroll till it's the selected object! It's kinda like your hotbar if it didn't have hotkeys. So it's pretty simple, but still rather annoying.
you can WHAT EDIT: This doesn't seem to work for me, at least on vanilla Java! I assume it's a mod (or, more painfully, Bedrock edition) -- that being said, I'd love to know the name if anyone has it!
@Jonah Zapata just because you can doesn't mean it usually is played that way. You can play Java with a controller too but that's not how it's usually played 👍
@@keen8271 KBM is natively supported on bedrock edition, and the game is distributed on PC, where that is the most common input method. Controller is not native on Java, and Java is only distributed on PC, not on console where controller is most popular. Bedrock edition is very commonly played on controller, but on PC, there are very few players that do because it requires a modding setup that most people don't care to go through
Don't forget about the rare blue Axolotl In A Bucket! Also why not have a stop at the Shopping District? Like multiple paths that start from there with a little break room and maybe a train station look, that way people can easily jump onto it. Maybe it's like 5 blocks of no boost if going straight forward.
Good idea on train station. Better on a center or elsewhere in a shopping district to have train station with a different highway for destination, w/ there names on it.
I didn't really understand what this "soft reset" is at first, but honestly it just seems like wrapping up the plotline and lore stuff, a couple people take a short break, and the continuing on with the season as normal. It's like we went into a new chapter/season for potential story stuff, but kept it the same for the actual server and building stuff (aka, the stuff we're all really here for).
The amount of times I have seen the grass and fern stuff in chests and have literally taken the chests’ contents and tossed those things on the floor to despawn is a great deal. I may hoard a lot of stuff, but “rare” stuff like that just never really gets used where I live. Although, a museum of artifacts, fossils, and rare finds might be neat to have…🤔
A nice idea to tackle the issue of the shops and interrupting other builds and whatnots, would be to build it underground in the form of a sewer; It wouldn't directly stop in front of each base, but it would help with it being a straight line; and as a bonus it would look very aesthetic, having a massive sewer system from one base to another, perhaps with small bubble elevator themed pipes going up and down to each base-stop
If you want to go diagonally, you'd have to significantly widen the track and that would require more dolphins in order to get the full effect across the entire track.
Etho's content makes me so happy so it's super heartwarming to see him mentioned and appreciated hehe also oddly enough, I've found multiple of the double tall grass items just wandering around haha. I think I have 3. I also have something like 10 or so deepslate coal ore... and I think one deepslate emerald ore? Maybe? I can't remember. I've also been collecting any normal stone diamond ores I find. the drafts made out of diamond and gold blocks hahahaha
Very similar to the tall grass, the large fern can only be found in a spruce village chest and is extremely rare, I’m pretty sure that it is rarer than tall grass too
You should also check out the Hermitcraft Recap (a channel with Pixelriffs and Zloyxp), they do an incredible job keeping you up with everyone in a quick and easy way to digest
it reminds me of myself with a book, you like the book so much that you don't want it to end which is why you slowly chip away at it hoping it doesn't end in a way you don't like
I swear I took a break from watching hermitcraft for like 5 months and as soon as I decided to start watching it again... Grian starts talking abt how its been a minute... maybe QUITE A FEW MINUTES and then proceeds to give me a COMPLETE RECAP for everything that I missed when I was gone... Thats madness. its like this video was made for me
Same here! I just wasn’t really feeling a vibe at the beginning so I quit watching it and now this video was suggested to me and I feel good to get back to watching the hermits again
If you put the highway underground (either completely or just partially) you could go under the shopping district and that wouldn’t be an issue anymore. The biggest downsides would be a) All the mining you’d have to do and b) having to go down and back up while traveling on the highway which would slow your travel a bit. I’d definitely try testing slabs or stairs to see if you can speed travel up and down those.
@@TheOneAndOnlyAnxious That was my thought! Build it in the air and add some decorative pillars/arches to hold it up. I think it would look nice and avoid cutting through builds. Plus, many of the hermits tend to build underground or use the under ground for redstone I think and it might be hard to check and see if that would be a problem.
Going underground might mess with peoples redstone unless you go really deep and that point it isn’t really worth. It’d be better to just make a wide curve on the Highway around buildings. It would slow you down the least, and not mess with any builds. Also wouldn’t add that much more work
To tackle the issue of the waterway, I think it would be a better idea to just move it underground like a sewer and that way it won't be interrupting as many builds (assuming no one has anything built underground) and you can decorate it like a sewer or a subway. It's either that or put it in the sky, but frankly, I think it would be easier to move dolphins underground than in the sky. Especially considering that dolphins aren't the easiest thing to move.
But that would make it less accessible and more time-consuming to build. Instead of just dropping in anywhere along it's length, you'd have to go down into the ground before you start speeding along, in which case you might as well fly for many of the trips that could be sped up by it.
@@mariusdufour9186 you already need wings to use it so rocketting up a couple blocks before or after wouldn't be that big of a deal, plus it's waterlogged so you can literally just have a hole to fall into it if it's underground. Underground would just take some more work to dig the tunnels
@@anonymousmisnomer5443 You could use a tnt machine to carve it out rather than doing it by hand, and adding a sort of underground subway access could even make it look cool.
It'd be so neat to see some kind of inspiration from the nether castle from one of the previous seasons hanging from the rocks! Like, an upside down village, maybe? Or a crazy tall house like What Remains of Edith Finch!
this may be a bit late but itd be cool if you designed the water travel system as if it were an aqueduct with archways underneath, you could maybe even push it and ask if you could integrate the aqueduct with the peoples builds its going through to help with the look and maybe add some design
Along with the double-tall grass, you can also find a tall fern item in spruce villages. Also, Pillagers can rarely drop a crossbow that is enchanted with both Multishot and Piercing - two enchants that are usually not possible to put on the same crossbow.
A simple solution to the back problem is to not have a back. Or at least... when designing your build... don't build it in a manner where it's only seen from one side. Try and build it where it looks good from all sides. If you start your builds with this in mind, it actually makes it a lot easier to do.
i think the rarest block is a block of fire? bc u could only get it in the early versions of minecraft. also finding double double tall grass was pretty chobblesome
deepslate coal is also a really rare item to find, because coal very VERY rarely spawns that low. even if it does, it’s hard to spot due to how well it blends in
The castle looks fantastic! I really appreciate the mini tutorial of the moss gradients too. I find it easier to naturally integrate new techniques into my own building when it's explained so I can't wait to get working on things! As for the speed highway, it'll be a bit more work but if you can't go through shops and can't go around shops, can you go under shops? I mean have it as a tunnel like a subway system. Downside of course is the digging but some hermits like Pearl enjoy mindless mining at times. Whatever you end up going with, I can't wait to see it!
For the highway you can have it drop and go underground for a bit and use bubblevators or slime blocks to bounce you back to the surface. Im sure that will get the other hermits chuckling every time they use it and it solves the shops-in-the-way problem
@@maximilianrossmann1349 have you seen that thing? Its enormous. Imagine digging all of that + also placing the soul soil + delivering dolphins underground. It'll just be too long to make
17:28 last I recall, Pearl had stuck the dragon egg in her attic at the beginning of the season. Not sure if she still has it since someone else (Xisuma or Doc I think?) was looking for it. It would be v ironic if the Trash Lady had the rarest thing in the game and forgot to capitalize on it lmao
If Grian and Scar’s relationship in the life series have been any indication…we all know that CuteGuy will be the brains of the duo and HotGuy’s the mussel and face
A few rare things that I could think of for collecting: -Similar to tall grass, large ferns can be found in taiga village cheats -the 5 music disc? Since the fragments are only in ancient cities and you need 9 of them -gilded blackstone (found only in bastions, needs silk touch or else it may turn into gold nuggets) -deepslate coal ore (can only generate at like around y=0 because the ranges deepslate and coal generate just _barely_ intersect and coal ore very rarely generates that deep down)
Some very rare mobs: Brown panda, blue axolotl, and brown sheep (pink is rare too but brown is rarest). There are also unique tropical fish, (like, randomized instead of the preset patterns) but I'm not sure what the rarest variant is.
for the highway you're trying to make. Why not try making it into a subway. You could do stations-like build at every major spot in the server (the other members could make their own stations too). That way the highway will not have to go through builds and is still discret making more space at the surface for other builds.
One of the reasons people don't finish tasks is their fear of being evaluated. “People don't want to have their ability judged, they'd rather have their effort judged,”
For a rare item you can make the rarest banner combination, including all banner patterns like snout from the bastions, skull from the wither skeletons, thing from notch apples etc It will be like the infinity gauntlet
