Just a small bit of building advice, for when you were trying to think of what to build to cover the corners of the portal: it often helps, when deciding on decorations or other medium-sized building bits, to think of a backstory/purpose for what you're building. For instance: why does a factory have a nether portal in the first place, other than "because it's useful to the player IRL"? If it's just for fast travel, then maybe it makes sense to build transportation-related items, like small carts, hovercraft, or other such things. If it's to transport resources, maybe something more along the lines of heavy-load machinery, like big trucks, cranes, train cars, etc. If it's because there's another half of the factory on the other side, then maybe it makes sense to have ways of transferring items and information through the portal, so pipes, conveyors, maybe some computer terminals for monitoring the other side, etc. Thinking of a "why?" within the boundaries of the fictional world can not only help inspire you about what to build, but can also make the final results look more cohesive and lived-in.
each corner of a nether portal that's replaced with a diamond block should provide a 25% chance of preventing a zombie piglin from spawning, completely blocking it when all 4 are replaced.
This is an excellent idea! I think we could use crying obsidian because it doesn't have much utility outside of respawn anchors. That would give it much more value :)
I think they should make a toggle or something to change the piston sound. Or even use things like ink sacs to lubricate the piston to change the sound. Glow ink sacs could make a special sound. Using bonemeal as a dry lubricant for pistons as well. There are so many options!
huge texture changes work in the right context. bdubs has great experience on how to create that context so he can close his eyes on the first single contrasty blocks and focus on the grander vision
Thanks for reading my dono comment about the MRI. I was happy I was able to tell you. Yes, they were able to pump in your VoD through the speaker system during the procedure. It really helped. 1:32:00 That wheel is looking good as a portal. Really fits the vibe.
Haven’t finished the vod yet, but portal suggestion: take the cog from the old house and scale it up so that it’s cutting through the floor and the side of the building, and your walking through one of those little holes. You could have copper trapdoors/grates to imply space between the cog and floor. Also because of the layout, you can even get way with it not clipping into that next room, or if you place it right it could just be a detail next to the wall.
@TangoTek2 3:15 if you want to fix the image burn in just put an all white image full screen on that monitor and leave it there for a while and it should fix it.
@@riuphane yeah. We had a computer monitor at work with burn in and my boss told me about the trick. I went ahead and tried it and after about 10-15 minutes (may vary) the burn in was gone
In watching the entirety of this vod, I was unsuccessful in installing 8 brackets for shelves. Unfortunately the lack of success was not due to getting distracted by Tango’s portal designs
7:20 I don’t like the piston sounds. I agree the new door sounds will be cool, and that we don’t like them because the piston sound is old and iconic but it’s the Minecraft piston style of the “CHU-CHUNK” noise
If I were you, I'd make the inside layer of the gear be 2 wide, so it'd be right in front of the portal, in the layer of the wall, while not obstructing the warped stem part of that layer. Also, for the top of the gear, for the 3 blocks on top in the middle, instead of the 3 cut copper slabs, I'd recommend 2 cut copper stairs, and 1 copper block between them, to make that side look the same on the outside as the left and right sides. Because you know, gears are generally supposed to be spinning, and hence are supposed to have the same pattern on their outer side at least.
For the issue with trying to turn off the factory when leaving, have pressure plates or trip wire that lead to a dispenser that shoot a rocket towards a calibrated skulk sensor.
Edit to add: another suggestion for the circle. Add one (or even 2 layers deep of JUST the inside of the circle. Fill the rest with wall blocks (spruce or black stone) and then it's like your walking into a pipe to get to the nether. It should hide the obsidian?
Hey Tango, loving all the work you are doing. Just thought I'd suggest an idea for your portal, that I think would fit your build. I think a time machine (like the one in the 2002 film with guy pierce) would definitely have a style that would suit the steampunk theme. Maybe with a system that sends out light and sounds as it powers up and then lights the portal. Just thought it'd be a fun thing.
I know Tango isn't a huge fan of chunk loaders, but linking up a chunk loader to The Factory's on-switch wouldn't be a terrible idea; so he wouldn't have to spend a ton of time on stream in the area (and he can also turn it off when he's not logged on; it doesn't need to be running 24/7)
I'd just pull all the items out of the minecarts with hoppers, then break the minecart afterwards. A row of like 10 hoppers would probably be good protection!
I wasn't sure about the green buttons. But then I looked away to do something for a minute and when I looked back I just thought "wow, that looks great!"
Idea for behind the portal, the overflow items go there and get pushed around by sticky pistons, and when the pistons go off a noteblock with a wither skull on it play making that air pressure sound, and then pushed into lava/fire.
Also with having the obsidian showing ... you could've used darker blocks to fade into a wall of obsidian and that has the portal cutout, does solve not seeing obsidian of course but it makes it at least look no so jaring.
I know I'm probably late to this and red stone is not my forte. You mentioned not wanting to use chunk loaders and I respect the decision, but, of course, my suggestion is going to be chunk loaders but (as I think you mentioned once that Doc uses them while unloading shulkers....I think) could you build one that you flick a lever on for ONLY while streaming or working in the factory. My brain says the lore is like you come into the factory to start working and flick a bunch of levers on, maybe one for lights, one for the factory, one for the chunk loaders) then it all starts up (a la Willy Wonka). It would allow you to work and interact with other hermits and jet off with your wings to do funny antics but it is only on while you're on the server and actively working on the factory. When you're done, you shut it all down and leave. Love your stream (well the vods), and LOVE your builds. Thank you for sharing your creative process!
I couldn’t finish the video before commenting, I kept repeating “skulk. It needs skulk behind the wheel.” Lol So basically, at this point, I don’t know where you landed on the design but I’m sure it will be great.
I'd like to say the new piston sounds sound very much like someone chewing with their mouth open. People with Misophonia especially are likely going to be negatively affected by the change.
How would acacia stairs look on the inside instead of copper? I know you want to be like bdubs, but your building style is very relatable. I always love your builds. Bdubs shocks me, and when I try to add stuff like him, it looks weird. He would probably add course dirt and magma blocks somewhere, and it would work.
I'm commenting before I've finished the video - but - I think a falling block door would be cool. Can anvils be used in a gravity block door? Edit: Just read that anvils break and can't be moved? Edit: I finished the video. Looks good. Something I think would look cool is some sort of descending lighting pattern that starts randomly at the top behind the portal - maybe giving the impression that you're being turned into energy and sucked down towards the nether. Think matrix code but less green. could use either copper lamps or the redstone lamps. Are there any other toggle-able light blocks?
On the off chance Tango sees this could you do a dispenser with fireworks like sparks. Gem does this with her power poles and Cub can supply them. It could look cool and be a bit of collaboration
The Gigabyte M27Q 1440p 165mhz has been an AMAZING monitor for me. I run it as my main, and then I have a Gigabyte G27 1440p for secondary. They aren't insanely priced by ANY means.
I like the theme or style of the new piston sound, I just don’t think it fits with the piston very well. It needs to have a little more ka-thunk to it. It sounds more like cogs than a piston. It would go well with the crafter though.
Is it possible to attach a calibrated skulk sensor to the factory’s power switch so it detects activity in the area and automatically switches as needed
Not sure if you read these or not, and not sure if this is a worth it issue to you (im only 15min in atm) but a piston keeps going off randomly in your sugar cane farm, and just under half of them go off randomly but much less frequently. Not sure why but mentioning it just in case.
3:46 Who-ever putt that in chat: Well yes, I do have a CRT. It's my (sometimes) 3rd monitor, and it's a Philips. The model and year I can't name from the top of my head, but what I do know is the power-draw: 65 watts. That's why I only use it occasionally.
The new piston sound is just too weak. Pistons can push 12 gold blocks. Each weighing 19.3 metric tons. The new sound in no way matches what they are capable of in the game. Power door locks sound more powerful. 😂
I can't help but wonder what Ms Tango does, because she seems to always be around mid-day when Tango is streaming, but Tango is always having to cut stream short to go pick up kids and stuff...
