Dr. I am being diagnosed with hiatal hernia through Endoscopy. I don't want the procedure again as I find it distressing. Can hiatal hernia be seen by USG? A radiologist told me that if is not possible by USG , only by Endoscopy.
Hi. If you don't want to undergo Endoscopy, you can have a Barium Swallow Test instead. It is an X-Ray of your esophagus and the stomach. You will have to drink a contrast medium (a special liquid) just before the test is performed. It is an alternative to Endoscopy. If you do not want to undergo Barium Swallow, you can have a CT Scan but it is better to avoid high radiation imaging modalities like CT Scan for such purposes. Thanks and Regards!
