For the last 2 years i had lower back pain and a constant pain in the back of my leg that felt like knife stabbing it. I taught a 100% it was sciatica since i had all of the symptoms. 3 months ago, i finally decided to go take a scan to check it out. They found a tumor that grew to the size of a softball. I waited so long that it had already eaten all of my sacrum up to my L4 vertebrae to the point that was nothing left of it. I’m 20 and will probably never be able to run again, do any sports that requires a lot of my legs and even sit on a chair. I had to quit my PE teaching degree and my job. I make this comment for all the people that tries to “though it up” like i did and not seek proper help. You never know how bad a injurie can be and you need to go see a professional about it that can give you the proper diagnose as soon as possible. And if you do have sciatica, this can make you feel better because it could’ve been worse. I hope all of you can have a nice recovery and finally found the life you had before. Have a beautiful day

I had this exact herniated disc about 2 years ago with pain & numbness down to my foot. Watching Bob & Brad (and doing these exercises + how to get in/out of bed etc) helped me more than I can say! I also had physiotherapy for a few months including water therapy in a pool - my symptoms were quite stubborn. It’s a VERY scary situation to be in, often feeling like it’ll never go away but stick at the exercises & work on posture etc & it’ll get you back on your feet (or able to sit down again in my case). I refused surgery as my dad had multiple spine & disc surgeries over the years & they ALL failed to fix things permanently & made his pain worse. God bless anyone suffering from this & Bob & Brad for all your tremendous help!!!!

My husband has three discs completely gone as well as the cartilage plus two bulging discs he has physio, water therapy and a great orthopaedic surgeon advising him but like you, he absolutely refuses to have surgery due to meeting people with similar stories to your father. He would rather the pain and limited mobility in his daily life. (For now). Good luck with your condition.

I struggled for a few years with my L5S1 herniated disc (MRI confirmed) when I was in college, back when I was a weight lifter. Felt like it zapped away my quality of life. Instead of being strong and active, I was in protracted pain, which takes a toll on you mentally and physically, to the point where I was moderately depressed. Anyway, nothing was working. I started doing back hyperextensions on a 45° Roman Chair, just to see what would happen. To my delight, the pain started to lessen. I could tell I was on the right path. Over the coming weeks/months, it helped my back heal, almost completely. I suppose it was a combination of strengthening the lumbar muscles, and activating some blood flow to the area. My recovery continued until I wasn't even thinking about my back anymore. Something to consider.

This herniated disc thing hits home. I was a very active kid then worked out from 16-20. During my 17 years of age to 21 i sat on a computer A LOT. With bad posture and a bad chair so first things first. If you sit a lot have a good chair and posture and make sure you get up every hour for 5-10 mins and move around. Anyways hurt my back playing ball hockey at 21 played through it. Day every day to the point i could barely lie down and touch my toes. My love for hockey caused me to keep playing through the pain. My back always felt like it was a pinch away from not being able to even walk. Eventually an odd cough or sneeze or jump would have my bed ridden not being able to move for a week.(I never took any ibu profin or pain meds. The odd muscle relaxer which didnt seem to help). 2 years of dealing with a bad back i finally decided it was time. I was 23 and i stopped hockey as i was getting depressed from being in pain every single day for such a young guy. I went to chrio for 3 weeks he diagnoses with a herniated disc/degenerated disc/slight scoliosis in l5-s1. Did some treatment and it made it worst. I then went to PT who doesnt xray or anything and assumed it was a herniated disc and treated my right side for that as that was were the pain was. 2-4 months later and still being very iffy I FINALLY pushed for an mri from a dr who didnt want to give me one, who thought i was too young to have any back problems. ( i hate drs, ill only go if somethings broken and i know i need a cast). Fast forward i got a 2.2cm herniated disc pushing againsst my nerve on my l5-s1. When i heard this it was a relief to know i wasnt going crazy. But then same time oh no, im told it cant be healed. I go back to physio treat my left side now and continue the excercises 3 times a day RELIGIOUSLY the one in 9:25 but i just used my elbows not my hands, i would also try to strech my spine out same time. as well as hanging off the bed in a safe position. what ever stretched my back out and i will say. I AM BACK AT HOCKEY BABY!. My back has never felt better. I dont even do the stretches everyday but i am AWARE that my back will always be prone. I lift with good posture. try to sit with good posture ( the hardest) and i have a whole body warmup routine i do 30 minutes before every hockey game that saves me. IT CAN BE FIXED. I dont know if the herniated disc shrinks or the symptons just go away but you can go back to normal. Thee only issue i have now in life is my dam neck cracking anytime i turn left. No pain but mentally its annoying. I may eventually get that looked at but trying to fix my posture more then i can. ALSO Train your core for bad back issues and lose as MUCH WEIGHT AS POSSIBLE. I also injured my back when i was at my biggest weight. ALL that weight sinks your disc.
@dmnC1541
@dmnC1541 Год назад
Did you noticed a growth in your height? I mean I have 3 discs at least that have been shrinking and one hernia. I'm feeling shorter and I can notice it. I think for Three discs it could be at least 5cm shorter or more right?...
@DiamondScuff
@DiamondScuff Год назад
@@dmnC1541 I noticed my poor posture made me feel a lot shorter. I do feel my tallest after doing spine stretches. But i think with age too everyone gets a tad smaller. It's definitly possible to lose 5cm off a bunch of degenerated disc. But that could also be spine alignment (scoliosis). I would recommend spine stretches/focus on good posture/low back/core exercises. If that doesnt help definitely go get an mri. I dont care what a dr says they cant read an xray for shit or symptons. MRI'S DONT LIE. If your on the heavier side loose weight. That will instantly take some stress of your spine.

@stevencastro2856 Год назад
Would you mind sharing your full routine in more detail that helped you get better?
@DiamondScuff
@DiamondScuff Год назад
@@stevencastro2856 Id say my top things that helped it was #1. Replace my beater chair and use a good lumbar support, become aware of how your sitting and honestly try not sitting to long at a time. I prefer standing more then anything these days. 2) That stretch at 9:25 i did it 3 times a day 10-12 reps of 3 sets for roughly a year and a half. I know that sounds like a lot but it truly did help. I still do it oddly here and there when i get flare ups but the flareups are not often. 2) Realise when your back is vulnerable. Did you know after sitting for over an hour your back becomes super fragile for it least 10 minutes. You dont want to lift/twist your back often untill after 10 mins from sitting to long. 3) Any activities that cause you back pain. Make sure to warm up! My hockey warm up is jumping jacks/planks/side planks/ab excercises it least 30 minutes. Prior to knowing my back issue id stretch for 5 mins and what not. I dont even stretch any more till after. I warm up prior. THIS WAS A HUGE GAME CHANGER. 4) When the back is really bad, go to physical therapy it speeds it up x4-5. They use an ultrasound machine and a electric current thing that feels great. 5) Lose weight! At my max i was 215LBS getting a sore back was easy at that point. Im currently 175Lb and feel on top of the world. 6) Workout your lower back in a safe manner. You need to get those weak/tight muscles strong to take the pressure off your spine. Follow these if you are truly determined to fix your back. It wont fix over night and you dont need to go overboard. But if you want it to go back to as close as it was prior i suggest writing these steps down and working towards it! GOD BLESS

I'm 29 years old - I was in a hockey accident back in 2008 and ever since my back has been "shot." I'm trying to get back in the gym because of the last few years I've put on the most weight of my life. I'm happy I found this video/website to help guide me back into a routine that I can do. But at the end of the day, I strongly believe back pain once it starts its forever. I get crippling pain, to the point my lower left back locks and I'm stuck similar to the "banana" position you showed. Its happen now 6 times and when it does I'm stuck for minimum 6 days followed by 2-3 months to be able to walk straight/without support. I've seen specialists and next week I'll be starting physio again - hoping for a better way of life and hopefully get passed this injury. @5min is my exact injury. I later sneezed and it exploded out even more, I can't even explain that pain. Surgery was unavoidable since my constant 7 pain level went past 10. Post surgery and PT I've been working on lower back exercises & core and have recovered fairly well- but I could do more. Lose more weight, exercise more, walking is now therapy and it helps to align my body. With that said the exercise is key and it can't be understated. I hope you can and actually do what it takes to avoid needing surgery and if you do, recover safely and get your physical confidence back!

I really hope this works. I have 2 herniated disk in the exact region L4, L5 that is talked about here. I have an inversion table. I was climbing inversion degrees once a week. I thought it would do the trick. The pain in my back got better, then as I increased the degrees I expected the pain I endure at night to get better as well. Boy was I wrong. My toes curl and lock by themselves whenever I start falling asleep. I get woken up by nightmarish Charlie horses, shooting pains all through my legs. My toes lock and I can't unfurl them for a while. I am sleep deprived and truly sick of this crap. I have an appointment to see a pain management doctor who is looking to give me epidural shots of steroids. That isn't until the end of July. I've been on the waiting list to see this doctor since May. It seems my life is going to hell in a hand basket. Thank you California, American health care, Bill Gates, or whomever the real presidents of this messed up country are, for making my life a living hell. Hopefully these two specialists can at least help me get some damned sleep. ✌️😑

Sharing my experience to help others: I suffered from L4-L5 disc prolapse (herniated disc, slip disc) due to lifting heavy weights in the gym. I had constant pain running down my legs, wasn’t even able to sit or walk. It was the worst phase of my life, I was on bed for 4 months completely. Almost 1 year since the injury, I am now able to go out regularly, walk as much I want, only thing that I’m avoiding is running. Doctors gave me muscle relaxants, pain killers which didn’t help. When the effect of pain killers subsided, I felt increase in pain as pain killers increase your sensitivity towards pain. Doctors also recommended for surgery. Many of my family friends, some of which are doctors themselves suggested me to avoid allopathic treatments and surgery; as even after surgery patients report issues and one of my friends had to go for another surgery after 10 years. Being 28 years old, friends and family recommended to take rest and let it heal on its own. As it’s even scientifically proven that the disc heals on its own through disc regeneration. Here’s what really helped me: * Homeopathic medicines: Colocynthis, Avena Sativa, Hymusa Syrup, Rhus Tox, Kali Carb (The first day I took these medicines, I instantly felt the reduction in pain and better mood and sleep. Believe me this reduction in pain was not like that of painkillers. Homeopathic medicines push/trigger your body to heal the injuries on its own) * Maharasnadi Kashayam/Kadha: Ayurvedic medicine to help with joint issues * Avoid sugar, alcohol, processed foods (like bread etc., anything made in a factory) * Spinach (On the days I had spinach, I could clearly feel more reduction in pain the next day. Spinach has a lot of vitamins and minerals, that would have helped the recovery. I tried taking vitamin/mineral supplements as well, but those didn’t have the same effect. Spinach has many compounds other than the commonly known vitamins/minerals like kaempferol. etc. ) * Pomegranate (boosts testosterone just like spinach) * Yoga poses or Physiotherapy with backward bending motion (Initially I was only able to do poses like raising my head up while lying on my stomach, increasing the curvature slowly, later kept doing the cat-cow pose)

Since my L-5 is out of place toward the back. Then I'm going for and MRI (don't have the appt yet.) soon. I just started Gabapentin and since it takes so long to start working, I'm also on Hydrocodone. I honestly think surgery will be my only option so I won't have to keep taking meds. Pain meds are a bandage, I will be talking to my PA-C when the MRI results come in about surgery instead of excersizes and physical therapy, whatever is quickest! I have so much to do!! Last July I fractured my pelvis due to BP meds that knocked me on my ass, literally after being told it might make me dizzy. That's an understatement. I don't need to go into the whole thing, but the sciatica started the beginning of July. I was given an appointment to see "my" PCP for, maybe you'd better sit down, for Sept.12, needless to say she is no longer my PCP. I was lucky my new PCP had a cancellation so I went to see him. Believe it or not he actually spent 45 minutes with me instead of 5. He listened to me without looking down like the other person did. Anyway, we're finally getting the ball rolling. I wonder if we'll ever have real MDs ever again. I think now only surgeons are real doctors.
